crooked brook sock

ever wonder where all the secret projects disappear to?
here’s a lacy sock i designed last spring for the woolgirl sock club april kit. i knew ahead of time that the color would be a deep blue, but had no idea what the yarn texture would be. when i received the light, soft yarn, i knew i needed a motif that would provide structure and stitch definition.

the resulting sock is luxuriously fine and dressy enough to wear with slim loafers under a professional trouser outfit—a little like that lacy lingerie we hide berneath our working clothes sometimes, heh. and who doesn’t appreciate a little warmth on an icy morning, dress shoes or not?

shown here: size medium in curious creek fibers wasonga, colorway old head of kinsale (a club-exclusive colorway, but there are many more beautiful choices!).

i am always thrilled to have a chance to work with jen at woolgirl, who offers an exciting array of exquisite yarns, covetous clubs, and delicious accessories in her online shop. she is also an incredible matchmaker of designers and dyers—i love participating in her clubs. thank you jen, for another wonderful opportunity.

  1. That sock is gorgeous! As always, I am just in awe of your design skills and productivity, and David’s photography shows off your knitting perfectly.

  2. i love love love the socks! and not only because they are blue! twisted stitches on very small needles and i do not play well together though(i’m getting arthritis in my right hand, right below my thumb) or i would have this pattern printed out already. i have a blue malabrigo sock yarn that wants to grow up to be these socks.
i’ll have to give serious consideration to knitting this pattern. maybe if i knit the socks while i’m also knitting a sweater in a chunky yarn. that would provide balance, don’t you think?

  3. Oh, the sock pattern is lovely, and the color is SOOOOO me……must take a look at the shop! Adding the pattern to the list of “next time I have cash….”

  4. There is a skein of yarn in my stash that has been waiting for a pattern. Of course you would stealthily come up with the perfect pattern.

  5. Just too beautiful! A work of art…That color is luscious! Looks like I’ll have to go shopping, again 🙂 Well, you can’t have too many socks, right? 🙂

  6. Anne – it’s another beautiful sock pattern. I agree – that dark blue is such a stunning color and perfect to show off the pattern. Burning Question: Did Santa leave knitting elves at your house under the tree? I’m amazed at the quantity of knitting you accomplish. I think I knit a lot, but my projects are miniscule in comparison. You’re such an inspiration! Happy new year!

  7. Gorgeous socks and I love, love, love that blue! I agree with Anne about the quantity of knitting you accomplish. You never fail to amaze me.

  8. I was the lucky winner of a Twitter contest from WonderMike of some of this yarn in a rich royal purple — nice to see the yarn “made up.”

PS — when are YOU going to get on Twitter LOL? Then I (and the rest of the world) could follow you more consistently 🙂
