i had two choices

Posted on Posted in projects, Uncategorized

today at 4:30pm i was caught up for a while. i had two choices; run around and try to take pictures of the lack of knitting that i’ve accomplished this week, or take a good nap.

it’s almost 8:30. i just woke up. good naps really, REALLY rock!
sorry about the pictures, maybe later. but they will have to be with the flash, cuz it’s dark now! and, it will just be sock progress, you’ll see. but there is a good amount of sock progress. just nothing very exciting.

so. i haven’t done much knitting this week, which is another reason i don’t have much to photograph. i haven’t even listened to a posdcast since the last Mosh Knit came out. i worked each night so far til at least 11:30. yes, i even came home from classes on monday and wednesday and worked for a few hours. in the last 3 days, i worked almost 40 hours. that’s the way my job is. crazy.

but now i am a new woman—i’ve had almost four hours of naptime! that means i will probably be up knitting til about 5am. YES! i’m such a night owl . . . and i love being up with david, though i can never stay up quite as late (early?) as he does

but today, i also worked on the Yarn Rant before the big sleep! yes! i have not forgotten or forsaken the cause. there is a finished button.

and a PDF flyer (i know you’re getting psyched now!).
i am waiting for david to show me how to make a link in the sidebar for it, so you can download and distribute to your heart’s desire. til then, email me if you want one, using the link at the right, and i will gladly send it.
i composed an email to all the podcasters and some of the blogging community (which i will send out tomorrow), in the hope that they will post the information as well. i am certain i forgot something important, so if there is anything you need to add to these support materials, PLEASE email me so i can update them.

the main thing now is to build this event up over the next month. i can’t say it enough. just run with it; make teams, design better lists, make posters, whatever! it will only work if a LOT of knitters participate. and i KNOW there are a LOT of knitters (and hopefully yarn shop owners, too) with yarn issues to yell about.

ok, i lied.

honestly, i didn’t think that anything interesting had happened around here to take pictures of. i just thought that because i was not knitting in a concious state, no knitting was getting done. but i just ran around the house looking for eye candy, and guess what?? i found a LOT!
(spooky, huh? no? when you see how much i did that i didn’t think i did, you’ll be spooked, too—you’ll see.)

i just realized i never showed the finished ostrich plumes stole—for shame!
this is from monday morning

ain’t it a beauty! now it’s taken up residence at the shop where it will help sell the pattern.

if you would like to buy a pattern, too, please email me! i know i am WAY behind on the pattern store, but i SWEAR, it’s coming . . . in fact, if i’m not too busy tomorrow, i’m going to try a real quick and dirty storefront thing, where i just show some pictures of what i have and you email me if you want to buy them, using paypal. i wanted to get a real shopping page up and running, but i just don’t know when i am going to get it done. and i finally realized that it’s more important to get SOMETHING up than to have nothing there at all, as perfect as that undone vision might be in my mind.

now, you might think you will not be interested in this, but last weekend, i also cleaned out my closet, after a year of saying to myself “i really must do that soon . . .” and then, not doing it. now it is clear of clutter, and devoid of unworn clothes. the built-in drawers are now able to be opened

and all useful garments within reach. no more wrestling things from under a mile-hi pile. i hate having too many clothes. the truth is, i tend to wear the same small group of things most of the time. it’s just easier if that’s all i hang on to . . .

anyway, the stack of sox stock caught my eye, and i quickly felt ashamed

see, there is a girl’s pile (mine, all mine) on the left. and a boy’s pile (for david, my brother, and friends)(i don’t knit sox for girl friends, cuz they all knit their own). do you notice a small disparity there, between the one pile and the other? and, i have to confess, if i divided the sock yarn i have into similar piles, you would see about the same thing. again, i AM the wool pig.

to save myself from complete shame, i will offer some flags of possible redemption; a parade of sox in progress. these sox are progressing at such a neck-and-neck pace, that soon, the boy’s pile will at least equal the girl’s pile. in fact, the only pair in the parade that is at all behind, is another girl’s pair—the one i work on when i’m in between job tasks (which is, like, never)

here is the pair that is furthest along, the blue sox with the contrasting tips, heels, and toes

they are really getting—you can see the second sock has quite few inches done. i love them, but then sometimes, i love these more

they are really soft and felt-y feeling; if knitting has comfort food, these are it. then there are these, which i forbid myself to touch until i have done a little on all the other sox.

WHY, you say??
uh, because i can’t keep my hands off them, and if i kept knitting these, i would never get anything else done, and lastly, because if i just knit on them, they will be OVER!
i mean, wouldn’t YOU limit your pleasure too? aren’t they just the cutest damn things?
they make me think of bocce balls and little rascals. david is about as excited as he ever is to wear them, but i don’t let that get to me . . . i just might have to get some more lorna’s laces now, or figure out how to dye my own facsimile of this yarn.

and, finally, the slow-poke of the group, those hollySox

i swear, i will probably wear these sox out faster than i am knitting them . . .

now lastly, since i am about ready to chew furniture if i don’t knit soon, here is the lovely thing that is patiently awaiting my knitterly presence in the TV room

this scarf is moving right along and a pleasure it is to knit, as well. it’s quite hard to photograph, though; in person, the colors are so much more subtle and the lace pattern is so much more obvious. the camera picks up way more color than i do, no matter what light it’s in. anyway, she is waiting, as they say!

don’t forget the yarn rant; look for the support materials tomorrow, and please, please, use them!

  1. I was just starting to think if anne doesn’t post soon I’m going to foam at the mouth… I have three different socks right now being knit with lornas laces… Although I think the jungle stripes want to be mrs beatons instead….. Btw any of her yarns that have stripe in the name will pinstripe…. I really like a colourway I’m knitting with called mixed berries…. I feel sad for you cause you don’t get to feel the full joy or her many colourways…

  2. I mentioned the yarn boycott day on the latest Aussie Knit, so I’m already starting with the pimpage. Are you going to have a particular page or entry dedicated to the boycott day, with all the details and a link to the flyer so that we can link our blog-button to that page? I’ll be putting a button on my personal blog as soon as I have something to link it to for those curious parties – if you’re not going to put up a dedicated entry, I might just write one in my blog and link to it 🙂

Your socks make me envious – my own sock isn’t coming along particularly well, because I’m lazy and easily distracted by something showing results more quickly. Ah, I’m a fickle knitter.
