almost ovals

now that the really hot weather is here, rather than put down my knitting altogether (i’d never consider it), i tend to gravitate toward featherweight projects in finer yarns. the fabric in this pretty scarf has no density at all, making it the perfect candidate for summer knitting.

couple that with the fact that the stitch pattern is easy as pie and it becomes a good traveler as well—ready to go or stop as your summer activities take you.

light and easy as it is now, it will provide a luxuriously soft layer of warmth when fall arrives—just the right touch for cool, crisp september mornings.

mmm, that could be your neck under there . . . just sayin’

if you start now, it will be done in plenty of time.

this is a great project for that single skein of luxury yarn that you’ve been saving for the right project—knit up in a beautiful fiber blend, this piece falls into the most splendiferous folds

this scarf is sized a little wider and longer than some of the other little nothings, to use as much of a typical luxury lace skein as possible. it could even double as a narrow stole when needed.

shown here in the incredibly lovely cashSilk lace, a cashmere/silk blend, colorway riptide—it’s absolutely breathtaking in person; i wish you could touch it!

of course the scarf would be equally lovely in any one of felicia’s wide, wide range of colors.

the beautiful pins shown with the scarf on this page are made by my dear friend romi. you can browse and purchase from a full selection in her online shop, designs by romi

many thanks to felicia at sweetgeorgia yarns for providing such a gorgeous yarn for this project—every stitch was a complete pleasure, thank you!

and kudos to helen, who test knit the scarf for us during her summer travels, as she anxiously awaits the first shipment of our fall club. she’s just great, isn’t she?

and what’s a pattern release without a little accompanying film footage? this time though it’s not david who has put it together . . . it’s our friend johnny vaquez at new stitch a day blog. we sat down a couple of weeks ago to record an interview for his fiberstory.TV series and today it went live. it’s an in-depth piece that runs for almost an hour, so grab another cuppa coffee, some knitting, and put your feet up to enjoy! and be sure to check out his trivia giveaway—as an added bonus, one lucky viewer (who is also a good listener) can win an eBook membership to our fall in full color projects club.

personally, i’m a little afraid to look; i’m getting my courage up as i write this, haha.

if you enjoy it, please take a minute to let johnny know; he works really hard to bring great fiber content to us, both at fiberstory.TV and his new stitch a day blog.

thank you johnny!

  1. Stunning as usual Anne. BTW, I took your advice and started some longjohn socks for my husband. He really likes the pattern so that’s a “yay!”

  2. Gorgeous, Anne. I had to go buy my pattern before I commented : ) Off to search my stash for some yummy yarn. Helen did a beautiful job of knitting this scarf.

  3. Oh, lovely – and I just happen to have some of that breath-taking yarn in the stash…I can attest to its words-fail-me softness and general gorgeousness.

  4. The scarf looks absolutely fabulous Anne – your pattern, as always, is so clear to follow, it’s a delight. I’m just off to check out the interview!

  5. I love how this turned out! Soooo, I ordered yarn and pattern just now =-) Because I do not have enough on my plate…=-)

  6. Awesome interview! It’s so great to learn more about a designer I admire and their career evolution! Having worked your patterns before I must reiterate that they are super easy to follow and give a real understanding of the construction aspect of knitting that you can take away with you and use when you work other patterns in your knitting adventures. You are a wonderful teacher! I’m still trying to save up enough cash to get into the club. I was hoping to win a spot but I can’t seem to access the trivia section after the interview, so I’ll just keep saving! You Rock Anne!

  7. I love this–and I’m thrilled that it’s ready. I’ve been thinking about it all day.

  8. oohh wow! what a stunning piece of design & knitting!!
    you are very inspiring Anne!

  9. What a delightful interview! I have enjoyed reading (and knitting from) your blog from the early days, and it has been a pleasure to watch your well-deserved and well-earned success grow over that time. The icing on the cake is to see your conversation with the interviewer and find that you are a charming, nice, and funny person, too.

  10. Gorgeous pattern 🙂

Loved the interview too, am super excited about the club as well.

  11. wonderful interview, anne! it was fun to hear your voice and to learn more about you. book or not, you’re a tip-top knitwear designer! (sooo anxious for the club to start…)

  12. Off to listen to the interview but also going cast this pattern on in the am. Will I get it done before next Saturday’s KnitNation or will it be my WIP? Either way looking forward to seeing you there, safe trip over.

  13. The new scarf is exquisite, but have you thought about designing some infinity scarves? I think they are easier to wear than cowls because they tend to be looser and less apt to emphasize my multiple chins, and they are easier to wear than scarves because all the draping is done as you put it on.

  14. Riptide is such a beautiful color, very natural earthly color. This shawl was knit with such lovely yarn, a soft drape.
