no moss on this stone

and for all of YOU a beautiful lily photo that i’ve been keeping for a special occasion.
thanks so much for the crazy-amazing emails and enthusiasm for irtfa’a. it’s been a splendid project and i have to hand it to you because on this one, more than any other, the encouragement you provided from the very first glimpses was instrumental in the success of the piece.

i am SO lucky to have this incredibly interactive communication with all of you, and so grateful that you take a few moments to comment with opinions, ideas, suggestions, and answers to my questions. it has a huge impact on my end, providing endlessly interesting information.

ok, now, enough mushy talk. you think we’re done? we’re not done!

sunday night i got a few more inches added to the geese wrap

it’s a great comfort knit . . . i kept stopping to squeeze the fabric in order to calm myself (sunday night was right before the pattern release and my heart was pounding). i swear it made me feel more secure.

though i did get to work on various projects over the weekend and on monday during class, when i arrived home my geisha stole yarn was there, waiting to be wound up and cast of for simurgh, the rectangle raven.

when i saw it i almost wet my pants. you know how i love plum and eggplant right?

oh swoooon . . . it’s valkyrie alright. how much do you think i want to sleep with this yarn?? the plum, the black cherry, the deep rust, the gray, the eggplant . . .
oh. and the silky sheen (heads hits deskโ€”hard)

ok, gotta stop that; don’t wanna get dizzy all over again.

even though i had a mailbox POPPING with email, i raced upstairs in my bike clothes to wind it up, so i could cast on; after all i had the pattern waiting; it even contained some updates from the test knitters already.

i’ve gotten a couple of repeats of the large feather pattern done so far. i’d have more done if i wasn’t so distracted, but i figure i can make up some time over the weekend.

because we are going visiting! david and i are taking off tomorrow for a thanksgiving visit with my mom. it will be really nice to drive through new york state this time of year . . my favorite. i love the corridor along the thruway between buffalo and albany.

once we get there it will be 3 days of relaxing and visiting so i should get a lot of knitting done (i usually do). and her house is warm.
this time i will have a laptop with me so i am even planning to blog on location (the fun never stops, does it). with pictures too. david fixed up my old powerbook laptop so i can use it for traveling.

tonight i have to figure out what knitting i’ll take along (in order to figure out how much other stuff i can pack). i have it narrowed down to the above two wrap projects plus:

bee sock

plus:
celebration/inspiration wrap and scarf

(i know that’s a really small swatch; i had to stop when i realized i needed a bigger needle)
plus:

cashmere mitt. PLUS:

finish off the last few inches of the acorn sock. PLUS:

finish off the second cardigan sock, which i don’t seem to have a recent picture of (and yes, i am too lazy to go take one).

now even I know that might be too many things to fit in the car.
but is it enough knitting??

next time you hear from me it will be from the road . . happy trails.

  1. I just received my Geisha, too, but in the color Haida. Love. So much so that I unbundled it and wore it around me neck.

I’m going to make the Japanese Feather Stole with it. Should be lovely!

  2. It’s never quite enough knitting. And then, if you’re me, you get home and realize that you worked on one thing. Only one. (Might have to do with the distractions of traveling with a Kid.) But how could you bear to leave any at home? And I hope it’s all within reach in the car. Very important, reachability.

  3. You are going to have a fun filled knitting weekend by the looks of all those fabulous projects. Happy Thanksgiving and look forward to taking the virtual tour with you and watching all those projects grow into masterpieces. I’m hosting a yarn party here for all our knitting circle friends, which will be loads of knitterly fun. Wishing you many good stitches!

  4. ANNE – with all that yarn who needs clothes – I would definitely be sleeping with valkyrie – will david be jealous – guess he is used to sharing you with your other love ‘FIBER’ – – you are too much with all your projects , but life is never dull that way – enjoy your thanksgiving , both of you with your mom , and definitely the countryside

    happy knitting holiday pat j

  5. I would almost wet my pants too! That yarn is beautiful. Wanted to do something like that for irtfa’a but decided against it because everything can’t be that colour. I was wrong. Not too much knitting, sure it will fit in the car. All the knitting is looking great and all of the yarn is divine. Have a safe trip and a great time!

  6. and i thought i had too many projects on the go! that geisha looks absolutely lovely – there are just so many gorgeous colorways. can’t wait to see what the stole’s gonna look like.

have a happy thanksgiving and safe travels.

  7. I’m exhausted just looking at all your projects. Do you sleep? They are all lovely as usual. And Irtfaโ€™a is beyond anything I’ve ever seen. It was perfect even before blocking–the feathers really stood out. Can’t wait to see what else you come up with.

  8. Enjoy the trip! I’m glad you’ll get to make a lot of progress on Simurgh, I’m very curious to see what she’ll look like! She’ll be gorgeous, I know, but still… I am with you on the colorway: it is lovely.

  9. Have a wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving. I can’t believe all the wonderful new projects that you keep popping out. Thank you.

  10. I cannot get over how much knitting you get done. So many different projects. How do you decide which to work on when? Do you rotate them according to a schedule?

BTW, I *heart* the Bee sock.

  11. Have a safe trip and a wonderful time with your family !
You can never have too much projects to take along, suppose you felt like working on that ONE project you didn’t take with you ๐Ÿ™‚ Horror !

  12. Okay, will the rectangular stole take one or two skeins of Geisha?

And please be careful on your drive through that Buffalo/Albany corridor. Our weather guy in Toronto is predicting a very bad bit of weather (freezing rain, ice pellets) for tomorrow and into Thursday morning for the whole area.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  13. …you know you’re a KNITTER (as opposed to a person who knits) when you pack your knitting first, and just toss in whatever clothing fits in the remaining space in the suitcase! Safe travel…

  14. Might be enough knitting. And for most of those, it looks like you’re even protected from my stupid mistake of a couple of weeks ago, in which I left half my yarn for two projects at home. ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Oooh, I ordered the Valkyrie colorway and the Irtfa pattern yesterday, but now I may just have to wait for the rectangular version. Your are without a doubt, the most prolific and original lace designer today. In desperation, I purchased Japanese lace books, but since I found your patterns, there has been no need to crack those books. Have a lovely holiday break.
Rosi, who still has to finish Morning Glory

  16. that Valkyrie colorway is amazing. my husbands favorite colors and he is very much into the old Norse mythology – all perfect for him. Maybe with it, I can tempt him into knitting.
and no, you are not bringing too much knitting. you seem to knit very fast and if David is doing the driving – that’s a lot of knit time.
have a safe and fun trip.

  17. Happy Thanksgiving, have a fun and safe trip! I love how many projects you’re taking along, that’s totally how I pack for a trip as well.

  18. Hey, I’m the same way – after all, you wouldn’t want to run out of knitting projects. And you can always do laundry or wear dirty clothes so it’s not as important to bring lots of those. One time my daughter got sick and we had to stay in NJ longer than we thought. Thank goodness there was a yarn store nearby because I had to go out and buy something to work on. So, the morale is that you can never bring too many projects!!

  19. Have a happy Thanksgiving!! I had the same problem packing my knitting for my turkey day trip, but it sounds like you’re going to have a lot more free time than I will. And now I’m jealous. And I’m going to go swoon over some Valkyrie to make myself feel better. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  20. I’m still stuck on irtfa’a. Did you use the whole skein? I had this idea that a blue/black silk would add that sheen that ravens have (and OH HOW I WAS TEMPTED by the Valkyrie) but BMFA’s silk thread seems much thinner and has less yardage than Laci. I’m still leaning toward the silk thread, but I need to know if I need one skein or two.
    Happy Thanksgiving, and safe travels!

  21. Oh, look at the geese in their V’s!! Amazing! What’s that I hear? Honking?? Oh, it’s just your on the road to New York! I adore the yarn! It’s so hard to make a decision on color. I want them all.
Happy Turkey Day! Have a safe trip.

  22. Man, you’re whipping them out! Gorgeous stuff, per usual.

Sooooo, how much Geisha are we going to need? Because that 10% off coupon is burning a hole in my pocket and I need to order my laci for itfa’a (which I keep thinking of as uffdah) so I might as well combine the order ;>

Happy Turkey (or rather non-Turkey) Day tomorrow!

  23. Have a wonderful visit and a great T-day!! And I’ve been drooling over Valkyrie and HOPING the colors were really what I thought they were…so thank you! I’m spending some of my vacation deciding what to make with it…it’s my favorite colors, too – but are there any “not so wonderful” shades in the Raven series?

    I think NOT.
    Be safe this weekend!
    (((hugs)))

  24. Never too many projects. You need to make sure you have just the ‘right’ thing to knit on and that you never run out!!!

I grew up in Angola, NY, just south of Buffalo. I moved to SC 31 years ago. The only time I get homesick is right now remembering the lovely colors of fall and the first snow!

  25. the photos of the irtfa’a shawl are making me a little desperate. i really want to knit that, but i want to see the rectangular version before i commit. (having committed early to the bee shawl and then liking the stole even more. and not having the time to make both.)

    hurry hurry hurry. please.

  26. Safe travel and a very happy holiday to you and yours.
Upper NY state is *amazing* in the Fall. I hope there’s enough of the color left… it used to blow my socks off every year when I lived up there.

  27. Travel safely, and enjoy being in a warm and relaxing place. I hope you all fit into the car with the knitting (but it’s so good to know that I’m not the only one who packs knitting before anything else, since that’s the most important!).

  28. Anne, you gotta be one of the best I know! I love your enthusiam, it’s so contagious ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you have a lovely trip to your Mom’s! Have a super Thanksgiving, and lots and lots of relaxing knitting.

  29. Oh, Valkyrie is my other most favoritest colorway in the raven clan. I just put the bee stole on needles and I’m also working on bee fields. Can’t wait to see the bee sock!! I also have yarn waiting in the wings for the acorn socks….. I think the raven yarn is going to be this year’s me to me Christmas present, although I don’t know if I can hold out that long. Safe journey and happy knitting!

  30. Ny first thought was what a beautiful lily.
My second thought was what a beautiful yarn (I’m wit you on this one)
My third thought did not happen as I was too busy downloading the Raven Pattern…
    YAY!
