acorn stash sock

want to work some squirrel voodoo to keep those greedy rascals in their places?

knit these acorns round and round,
squirrels will spin upon the ground,
with helpless little feet a-prancin’
and greedy, grabby hands a-dancin’.

knit in rounds to keep them busy
til they fall down tired and dizzy.
no more to hide your wool away,
or dig your bulbs as if to play.

you know . . . if we all do it, it might work (wink!).

thank you to angeluna, who knit the pattern to test and critique it; she did a bang-up job. and of course, many thanks to my friend deb, of fearless fibers, the genius behind the color, and a generous soul in all ways.

  1. The poem! I love it as much as the sock! Ooh, the namesake sock! I love the color and the pattern, and my kit from Deb is already on the way!

  2. Very nice! I get this sneaking suspicion you don’t sleep much – you do so much wonderful pattern design 🙂 Hmm, maybe I should wait on this as I told myself, “irfta’a first, irfta’a first…”

  3. I know you don’t sleep much, lucky for the rest of us as we benefit! Great sock, brilliant poem.

  4. I’m impressed to see how clearly defined are the acorns! That makes for lovely and very original socks!

  5. Yup, just gorgeous. And I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one who likes the acorn on the heel (helps me feel less obsessive). Have you sent the anti-squirrel poem to the Yarn Harlot? Given her issues with squirrels and wool, it might be perfect 🙂

  6. I will not start this before I go to bed, I will not start this before I go to bed…. Ooo, and it’s cuff-down, too.

  7. Hee, hee, hee–love the magic spell.

I have my kit from 7 Deadly Sins Club and I will be sure to recite the charm as I knit the socks. I want to see those squirrels writhing! 🙂

  8. I adore this sock! Its absolutely fantastic and I am a squirrel lover too so its just perfect. Thank you for another beauty of a pattern Anne!

  9. Anne- Are they safe around squirrels? We have a high ratio of squirrel to humans around here- could be the chestnut tree.

You may convert me to being a sock knitter yet!

  10. These are great, love the heel detail too. We have 6.5 acres of oaks, beeches, hickories, etc. Why do the squirrels need to eat from our bird feeders?

  11. These socks are FANTASTIC!!! I had to get the pattern, and can’t wait to cast on for them! The poem is very fitting, and I had to print that out to go along with the pattern.

My house is full of acorn, oak leaf & squirrels, so now my knitting bag can have them too!
