butternut scarf

Posted on Posted in patterns

knit of the finest lace yarn, the sheer, weightless fabric of this scarf belies the warmth held within its folds. tuck it into the neck of a jacket or sweater to ward off the chill or just because it’s pretty.

shown here in a one-of-a-kind handspun from abby, it can be knit from any of the wonderful superfine alpaca and alpaca/silk laceweight yarns available from our many favorite dyers.

all brooches shown were purchased from perl grey

the luscious silk/merino/alpaca handspun yarn for this project was a gift from abby franquemont, whose spinning, writing, and teaching are a constant inspiration.

  1. So nice, and it shows off all of your shawl pins so well! 🙂

I bet it looks just as good on the “wrong” side as the right side.

  2. Gorgeous yarn, beautiful pattern! That might be my choice for the Spirit Trail alpaca I bought at Rhinebeck.

  3. Just tried to order – but Paypal won’t accept. Can’t verify anything. Any other way to order?

  4. Anne – I see now that your very first photo shows the back AND front – what a lovely, lovely design, enhanced by the delicate yarn you spun.
    Bravo!

  5. I love that this one has a terrific looking pattern on the right side and wrong side. It’s so right with the colour too. Lovely combination.

  6. My comment is regarding the spiralicious pattern – this is so gorgeous I can hardly stand it – I have just started the edging on my 1st one and was convinced that I would not be able to do this BUT your instructions are so awesome that it is a snap!!! I will knit away during the election results tonight – hopefully my gauge won’t get tighter and tighter as the results come in :>) Thanks for such great instructions!!! Jill

  7. that is so delicate and such a gorgeous colour. It’s a bit beyond me as I’m a bit of a novice but it’s inspiration to keep practising!

  8. Anne,

Won’t you PLEASE stop publishing these on your blog and get a darned book contract??!!

  9. Lovely! That’s another gorgeous gorgeous scarf. I really have got to learn how to bend the space-time continuum so that I can get more knitting time.
