be my valentine

what would valentine’s day be without hearts?
it seems as if everyone is embracing the fun and romance of this winter holiday with more enthusiasm this year, though there are some who have steadfastly polished their valentine message over the years, improving it with each passing

bret finalized his valentine’s day light show just the other daywhile we still had some warm weather

a host of handcrafted hearts cut from wood and painted line the porch eaves, each one a little different. dozens of lights set the house aglow with red and white—the transformation after dark is jaw-dropping

(noticeably absent is the flagpole, which lay neatly on the ground next to the house tuesday morning, having met its demise in a windstorm monday night.)

now, doesn’t that entrance look warm and inviting?

i found a sweet card from david on my keyboard this morning and we have a dinner-at-home date for tonight . . . maybe i’ll bake a cake (ok, now i have to; once that idea popped into my head i couldn’t get it out).

and i have a lot of knitting planned for today—i need it.
have a wonderfully romantic day!

  1. Wow, your neighbor is amazing! The opening photo of the red electric heart is both very cool and very pretty, thanks.

  2. that display is pretty crazy; i’ve seen christmas lights, but never valentine’s lights before!

    p. and i always do valentine’s day at home, too, but this year we’re doing it a day late because the first art show that his brother has curated all by himself is opening tonight! (also there’s a yarn store up in that direction that i want to visit, tee hee.)

  3. Just how cool is that…having a neighbor decorate for Valentines day….does he do this for every festive occasion? Lucky you….just super and unique.

  4. Weird question – do you know what kind of trees those are in his yard? I’ve been noticing them around here and noticing that the birds have not eaten the fruit. (Or are those hearts that he attached?)

  5. I have never seen a house decorated for V-Day. Wow.

We usually don’t do much for Valentine’s Day, but this morning, my husband presented me with a new lens for my camera. A very nice one. A VERY nice one.

I didn’t have anything for him.

So….I’m making him some fresh bread, a pandan cake and a Thai dinner just for him.

I hope that you have a nice and wonderful dinner.

  6. Your neighbor has to be one of the most entertaining I’ve ever heard of! I hope you’ve had a lovely romantic dinner. We went out for lunch and a walk on the beach — nice… 🙂

  7. To top it off, it looks like pink buds are popping from the two trees by your neighbor’s curb.

    Have a sweet evening!

  8. so what kind of cake did you bake? inquiring minds want to know. and those minds may need to have the recipe too. (the nigella lawson chocolate cake you mentioned in past posts is now part of my standard baking repertoire. thank you.)

  9. You have some exciting neighbors. I wish I have the ability to decorate like that.

    Hope your valentine was nice.

  10. Thanks for the Valentine! Now I have to ask, are you ever going to show us what that lovely mossy green knit secret was? I’ve been trying to be patient…
