david sock

Posted on Posted in patterns

in this month of father’s day, briar rose chris and i would like to present the first in a collaborative series of socks to celebrate the men behind our fiber endeavors. they pack boxes, troubleshoot websites, build displays, vacuum, and above all, wholeheartedly inspire and fire our dreams.
why, they deserve namesake socks.

david’s sock is a composition of playful knit/purl openwork mixed with cushy garter-rib trimmings; it’s complex to the eye, but simply to work and comfy to wear—like david himself. yum.

shown here, size medium in briar rose grandma’s blessing, colorway, 9045.

to purchase pattern or view complete pattern information, please click here to visit the product page in the knitspot pattern shop.

i can’t say enough how much fun it is to work with my friend chris—she’s always up for a collaborative project “with a twist”, happily mixing special colorways to suit (and not just for me, but for anyone)! her online shop is a delight—please go!
ronni lent her special skills proofreading and buffing up the pattern once again (and this one was a toughy); thanks ronni!
carol actually wrote and ASKED to test knit the sock, since she had the yarn on hand, and as usual was a dream to work with—thank you carol!!
my buddy jocelyn also knit up a sample pair (you must click to go see), quick as a wink; how does she do it with kids, dogs, and work?? it must be the haircut . . . you’re the best jocelyn!

and of course to david, lovely husband and muse; thank you for all you do.

  1. Very nice socks! (and well-modeled, too, David!)

as soon as I have a man behind my fiber endeavors, I will make him a pair straightaway! Love the pattern and will be adding it to my collection. now to decide between that and Bricker….

  2. Alas! I’ve been waiting for this one to be completed, and it more than lives up to my expectations!

Great job! Handsome pattern! And well named! 🙂

  3. What a wonderful way to give thanks and appreciation for the incredible men that support us so well and tolerate with extreme patience the “just one more round” mantra of our knitterly world!!!

David rocks, and those socks fit him to a ‘T’!! Very handsome, indeed!!

  4. Must get my hands on some of that yarn…love the socks, the pattern looks like fun!

  5. Yeah! Go David. He definitely deserves his own sock. What a wonderful way to pay tribute to the men we love.

If David is the model, do I daresay guess that you were the photographer? I think turnaround is fair play. You both do a fantastic job.

  6. I agree, David definitely deserves his own sock, and a very handsome sock it is! Good work, both of you!

  7. Yeah! I’d know those feet anywhere! No better men’s sock model around! Love the pattern and very yummy yarn.

  8. Great idea you and Chris have going. Love the pattern. That is a very handsome foot, there, David!

  9. I think I’m in love with that heel. My dad will definitely be getting a pair of these. Thanks for yet another great pattern!

  10. Beautiful socks!

The man behind my knitting just had a business trip to Berlin, Germany. He scoured the store for a local yarn shop, and came home with 5 balls each of 5 different yarns in a rainbow of colors. Life just doesn’t get any better than that.

Now I’ll have to size up a beautiful man sock for him, he wears a size 14. (It’s not a job, it’s an adventure.)

I’m impressed with the courage to let David model the sock outside sans shoe.

  11. What a great sock! Even with the openwork, they look very manly. 🙂 And here’s to all those great guys who support us in our fiberly endeavors!

  12. Yes, finally the pattern is available. I love the pattern and can’t wait to work on the heel design. I have already downloaded it and purchased two different colorways in Grandma’s Blessing from Briar Rose Fibers to make the socks. Can’t wait for the yarn to arrive. Even though they are “David’s Socks” they will soon be converted to “Kath’s Socks”!! 🙂 I do have plans however to make a pair for my husband and maybe even for my dad for Christmas as a nice surprise!
Thank you so much for a great sock pattern that is unisex.

  13. I just got my first ginormous skein of Grandma’s Blessing to make the artichaut shawl-and it is absolutely yummy! Those socks look like a fun summer knit!

  14. Not to mention that David is such a great model! 😉 They’re really great, and I may just have to make a pair for me…

  15. great socks! and what a fun idea to pay tribute to your wonderful, supportive men.
