aztec mazes

the rich, rich colors of fall translate beautifully in this casual textured pullover, with a nod to easy gansey styling (minus the baggy fit). a little tailoring in the right places gives it a flattering shape with room enough to wear a layer underneath. a striking knit/purl motif, accented by sinuous cables makes for an interesting, but not too complicated knit. use of a sport weight yarn offsets the depth of the texture for a fabric that is warm, but not heavy.

shown here, size small in briar rose legend, a smooth, 4-ply sport-weight yarn in colorway, 1086; golds (similar also to 1076 and 1078).

anyone visiting the rhinebeck sheep and wool show this weekend will be able to view a sample of aztec mazes in the briar rose booth, along with plenty of gorgeous legend yarn. just a few days and we’ll be there—i can’t wait to see chris and trade big hugs!

another beautiful yarn in an inspired colorway from chris at briar rose fibers got me to finally write up a pattern for this piece. thank you chris for all your beautiful efforts on behalf of my designs. see many more luscious choices at the briar rose fibers website.
a pattern just wouldn’t be a pattern without ronni at the helm, making sure all the Ts are crossed and the Is dotted. thank you ronni!
not only is tana a gifted tech editor, she also delivered a new little one into her family recently and still managed to transition us steadily toward publication without a hitch. thank you so much tana!
my hero, anne marie once again lent her very talented hands to the test knitting task in speedy style—thank you anne marie. barb g. and anne c. also participated in test knitting; we managed to test four different sizes between us all.

kudos to david for a super-sized photo shoot; he makes everything look great.

  1. Man, I really like this one. I’m going to have to knit one for myself at some point. I’ve always been intrigued by the fact that you used a lighter-weight yarn, yet the fabric actually does LOOK heavy because of the bold texture. I’m sure it’s very warm.

  2. Yes, I agree with those above me – the blue one is especially nice on you! Your output never ceases to amaze (as I plug along on my boxleaf and bricker projects!). Thanks for the inspiration. Say Hi to Chris for me too!

  3. Yes, the blue one makes your skin look radiant, Anne. And the pattern is fascinating. I’m amazed at your prolific pattern development process, as well!

  4. This sweater is just gorgeous. I love how you showed it in two different colors. Do you think it’s possible to clone myself so I can knit all your wonderful patterns faster? hehe

  5. SPECTACULAR, as usual … you have thoroughly delivered again!!! Anne, you spoil us, your devoted knitter-followers – lucky us. Both sweaters are absolutely uniquely Knitspot, which is why we all return over and over again! I really admire your understanding of construction, your sweaters always appear perfectly fitted.
If I see you this weekend, I will boldly introduce myself, unlike last year! We are expecting COLD weather, so pack accordingly! See you at Sheep and Wool!
    best,
    Jody

  7. This is beautiful, and it looks like what I’ve been looking for! Now my only job is to figure out which gorgeous shade of Legend to make it with…

  8. Beautiful sweaters…of course 🙂 Hope you have a wonderful time in Rhinebeck…wish I was there 🙂

  11. Oh, Anne, it’s gorgeous! I saw the sample at the Briar Rose booth at Rhinebeck and loved it. (I also caught a glimpse of you, from the distance, but was too shy to try to track you down and say hello).
