knitting a kiss in every stitch
a couple of nice diversions arrived in the mail this week to offer additional breaks from the gray. first up, a new release from sixth&spring books (actually, i was sent two, but i’ll talk about the other one next week)

knitting a kiss in every stitch by nicky epstein
this is a book chock full of small and simple knit projects that are perfect for gifting to expectant moms, kids, friends, guys, and charities (in fact, the book includes a guide to organizations that are happy to take them).
i dare you to resist that dog bonnet on the cover—how darn cute is that?
the patterns are basic structures which are then enhanced with the edgings and embellishments ms. epstein is reknowned for. lots of cute hats for kids are included. many are beginner-level projects with an emphasis on finishing work and add-ons (which can require a mature amount of patience). some are bigger and slightly more complex, though i wouldn’t say that any require extensive knitting skill.
the hardcover book’s layout is cheerful and clean, with nice photos showing several views of each project along with clearly-written instructions. the book itself might make a nice gift, in fact.
the publisher has offered to send a book to one lucky winner reading this post. leave a comment telling me you’d like to receive a copy between now and sunday evening, 6pm, and i will draw one winner. the book will be mailed by the publisher.

I like the picture of the cute guy knitting almost as much as I like the scarf he’s wearing! If only I could get my son to knit – but he says why should he when he has a free knitter to do it for him!

November 6th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
I can’t believe a dog bonnet made the cover mosaic of the book! It’s adorable, but it’s the type of thing many people would snicker at, before putting it back on the shelf at the bookstore. Those unenlightened– don’t they know that pets *need* knitting, too? I’d love to peruse this book.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:42 pm

What a terrific little book! I would love to win it for several reasons. I do a good amount of knitting for charity. I’ve also recently besieged by sudden gift needs. And lastly, I want to knit that dog bonnet and see how my 80lb lab mix likes it. Sure, he’s a boy, but he’s in touch with his feminine side. I’m sure he won’t mind.
Thanks for another great post and this wonderful opportunity!

Hi Anne,
Love your blog and could really use the book- always need new ideas (esp for doggie wear) for gifts, etc. Just the cover is inviting, and I’m sure Nicky has included many more. Thanks for sharing with us.
November 7th, 2009 at 1:10 am
Who wouldn’t love a copy of Nicky’s new book! I think it looks and sounds wonderful, and I have enjoyed several of her previous books. There appear to be several ‘must make’ things in there for me ( though I don’t have a doggy for the little bonnet). I do, however, have grand-babies that the wee hats would be perfect for, and I love the little girls’ socks with beads! I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
November 7th, 2009 at 1:15 am
that dog bonnet is so cute it makes me want to get a dog – and i am totally a cat person!
November 7th, 2009 at 1:22 am

Hey Anne,
I have the book already and I’d recommend the embellishment stuff. Still, shameless plug for you, your mitts and hats, I find, are much better designed and better received than some of the more twee things in this volume. And your yarn choices are to die (dye) for!
polly

ooh, don’t know if I’ll make the deadline–it’s 5 pm here in Montreal but not sure what time it is where you are. Anyway, as much as I would love to win, there are so many ahead of me…I’d just like to know when it will be released so I can track it down and use it for Christmas prezzies!
Cheers, Barbie O. in Montreal

Ohhhh….I don’t know if I’m too late for the drawing or not. I’m out of town and messed up on the time change. I would love to win this book because I have just the dog to wear the hat!
