bloch ness

Posted on Posted in patterns

it’s been a long time coming, hasn’t it?? our patten has actually been ready for quite some time, but first we had samples to knit and then we had to wait on yarn to arrive.

finally, the universe is in sync and we can present you with bloch ness, a casual, slouchy cardigan in nine sizes for teens and adult men and women.

this is THE perfect beach and vacation cabin sweater; with its terrific drape it feels light enough to wear with shorts or over a swimsuit, yet its soft, cozy fabric will keep away the chill when those waterfront breezes kick up at night.

its dramatic, ribbed button bands draw the eye to the center front, creating a slimming, streamlined effect.

which is completed by the ribbed accents along the diagonal lines of the raglan seaming.

when knit up in a yarn that has nice drape and a little sheen, the fabric lays beautifully along every curve to complete the flattering look.

and did i mention it is unisex, equally delish on men? do you need proof?

seriously, no words.

logan is so cute in this sweater, i can hardly stand it (and david looks great in it too, BTW).

this photo shoot is what david and sarah got up to while i was away this weekend—she planned the whole thing, isn’t it great?

i guess at this point, it’s safe to say this is also the perfect boyfriend sweater, wouldn’t you agree?

shown above, size 1X in bare naked wools kent dk, our elegant new merino/romney wool  blend, in colorway beach glass.

shown below, size medium in indigodragonfly polwarth silk, a luscious polwarth/silk blend in colorway curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

and if those two weren’t enough, we have two MORE samples—yes!
the next one is knit in briar rose fibers fourth of july, in a gorgeous rust/brown colorway that screams autumn.

for a denser, cozy version to wear when thanksgiving rolls around—or better yet, make it your rhinebeck sweater this year.

it’s loose enough to wear over some light layers and still look sleek—great for those windy fall days.

barb also knit a sample in our bare naked wools breakfast blend dk, but we won’t be able to get nice photos till tomorrow, when she comes over for spinning class. i promise i’ll add those as soon as we have them in hand.

and who knows, maybe we’ll be able to get a few shots of david wearing his new sweater.

many, MANY thanks to my friend kim mcbrien, whose polwarth silk in that fabulous pine green colorway was the original inspiration for this design. i enjoyed every minute of knitting with that delicious blend—so soft and luxurious, i just knew it was going to be a favorite sweater when it was done.

and the person who really deserves a big hand is my dear friend anne marie, who knit not just one sample, but TWO—the rust and the beach glass ones. and in no time flat, it seemed. she is a good friend to all of us and we so appreciate it.

we can never have a new sweater design that barb doesn’t knit—it’s become a rule around here that she must have first dibs on test knitting. the question is not will she knit it, but how many will she make? (it’s not unheard of for her to knit three or four of something that she likes, especially sweaters). thank you barb; we deeply appreciate all you do and especially the non knitting favors, heh.

last but not least (not at ALL), thank you logan, sarah, and david for putting together one of our best photo shoots ever—you guys totally rocked it. (and in 90-degree heat, too, i might add)

  1. Just fabulous!! And totally worth the wait Anne. I can’t decide which one I like the look of most, they all have their own qualities. Great photo shoot too, you’re right about Logan looking good!! What a great thing to wake up to this morning haha!

  2. Dear me! I will not live long enough to knit all your wonderful patterns Anne. This one is making it to the top of the queue!

  3. I love this one! It does look like the perfect blustery beach day sweater to throw on while walking on the beach or seawall down here in the cooler months! The natural color of the BNK wool really works well for this sweater, it looks crisp while being relaxed. Yay 🙂

  4. I have been waiting patiently to see this one. I LOVE the green, too! This is definitely going on my projects list.

  5. When you first started blogging about this design I knew I had the perfect yarn for it. So happy to se it now! Going to go right now and order!
    Thanks.

  6. Excellent garments and photo shoot. Wise move to show the design in a variegated yarn – the stitch pattern really works well with the variegation, and that’s a rare combination.

  7. This just might be a sweater Mr. Engineer would wear. That neckline looks like he could still have easy access to the ever present pen (and now iPhone) in his pocket. What a knitting pattern criteria, eh?! Gorgeous stuff.

  8. OMG. It’s even better than I expected. Yesterday was just a taste. I cannot wait to make this sweater. Off to buy it now!!!! I’m like Kim. I want it NOW. It has been worth the wait and is a total go-to sweater. I can see me wearing this all fall. And winter and then into next spring. : )

Thank you, Anne. You did an amazing design job again. And thank you, David, for an awesome photo shoot.
