race ya

is everyone having a good holiday weekend? i hope so . . .

for us, it’s four days off, alone in the house as our construction crew takes a short break until monday. woo-hoo! it’s nice to know i can sleep in if i wanted, even if my body doesn’t let me, haha.

we started the holiday off wednesday evening with a cookout and fireworks display at the home of our friends debby and robin. their whole family was there and it was the usual boisterous fun.

then thursday morning, i got up early to bike over to the YMCA fourth of july race in north canton. rain threatened the whole way over, but held off long enough for us to run.  the race is a 36-year tradition—the oldest runner (86 years) has taken part in each one.

the course was a nice 5-mile rolling loop which i really enjoyed running. the field was huge for this one and though i didn’t win any prizes, i did run a personal best race, hitting the finish line at exactly 45 minutes. previously i could do that at home now and then, but never while competing, so i was very pleased. i was amazed to hear that the winner in my age group ran that five miles in 37 minutes—i can’t even imagine running that fast, haha.

debby’s family all participated in the race too ;i was pretty happy to keep up her grandson lincoln, who ran nearby me and a little ahead most of the way. once in a while i’d catch up to say hello, then fall back.

for his mom april, this was her first five-miler and she did very well. some of you will recognize this adorable family form last october’s club chapter, when they were dressed in fall accessories.

their younger two children ran the 2-mile event and finished a little earlier.

afterward there was food, massages, and activities in park nearby while we milled around waiting to hear the race results. lady liberty and uncle sam acted as good will ambassadors throughout.

this was when the rain began again—lightly but insistently; time for me to find my bike and head home before i got caught out. after a nice shower and a change of clothes i was ready for a nap, haha; a luxury i don’t get to indulge in often these days . . .

later in the afternoon, it cleared up nicely enough to go for  long bike ride with david and wow, did it feel good to be on my road bike again! i can’t even remember the last time we went for a fast ride, but i bet it was a month ago. i’ve been using my town bike a lot, but all this rain has prevented us from doing much road cycling.

and today it was back to obsessing over the details of kitchen cabinets; just one more meeting at the home store and we’ll be done. we are taking advantage of a great sale this weekend to finalize our order, now that we have measurements. thank heavens.

ok, that’s really all i have for now; knitting continues but i have no new photos til the weekend. david is trying to get the stonewall wrap kits up into the shop so we can release those; we also have a bunch of other goodies that i’m impatient to put out, but it’s been one holdup after another for some reason.

seriously, there must be a planet in retrograde somewhere; we are all discombobulated and lethargic around here; we need a good shot in the arm to get some excitement going!

  1. Okay, let me get this right. You biked to Canton, participated in a five mile run, biked home, went for a “fast ride” on your bike with David in the afternoon – and you’re lethargic?? Oh Anne, you are so funny. If you spent any time with me you’d probably wonder if I was breathing.

  2. Did you say bike? I think I have one of those . . . Seriously, if I were you I’d be spending all weekend in that gorgeous bathroom! Now, off to stalk the Stonewall kits . . .

  3. Thank you, Ruth Ann, for commenting exactly what I wanted to say but was too lethargic to type!

  4. How funny – I got on to comment about the lethargic bit & found 2 people beat me to it. Yea, I’m lethargic too.

  5. must be everyone! Hubby had the week off and we couldnt seem to get the energy to even finish cleaning out the basement! Could be the constant rain here! Makes you want to sit and knit and do nothing! (or the 2 month old keeping us up all night!! lol)

  6. Let’s see–ride your bike to the site of a five mile race, participate in said race, then go for a long road ride with David in the afternoon–lethargic, discombobulated? Oh, I forgot, there was that wee nap–what a slug haha. Have a great rest of the weekend.

  7. STONEWALL Kits!!!!! You know I’ve been not so patiently waiting for those. Oh my. Oh my oh my. I *have* to have one. I may have just given myself a hot flash over this.

Congratulations for making your personal best race time. That’s just fantastic. You continue to inspire me to get up and MOVE.

Hope you and David enjoy the weekend.

  8. Lethargy looks good on you!!! You certainly get a LOT done! Congrats on a great race and good luck with the reno.

  9. I’m not sure if this has been covered, but when you’re out running what kind of camera are you using (I am assuming something light and compact), and what are you carrying it in if it’s not cold enough for pockets? Do you wear a fanny pack?

(I’ve been meaning to ask this question for months!)
    Happy slow weekend.

  10. Your running never ceases to impress me Anne. I am hoping to improve my exercise regime over the summer holidays. At the moment I am about as active as a last slug!!!
