The temp has dropped considerably in Michigan and I couldn’t be happier. Gardening is such a delight in the crisp weather! Every single bed got a fluff and facelift, plus we did a new raised bed out front with new plantings, thanks to the help of my parents.

Each night we worked until dark and were chilled to the bone, looking forward to escaping to all the woolens inside. The heavier blankets came out of cedar storage and onto the beds and handknit socks were on our feet. I love to be covered in layers in the evenings with knitting in my hands. This combination seems to warm my soul.

Last night I wove in the ends of my Goobalini in Stone Soup DK and Nate’s Yarn and today I had a chance to wear it.

There’s just enough nip in the air and it feels so good to walk around the neighborhood with the sun heating up the blend (rambouillet, columbia, lincoln, navajo-churro, alpaca, silk, bamboo, tencel, bison, and llama) atop my head. Details on my ravelry page here.

I’ve now moved onto a Fartlek in two colors of Stone Soup DK. This yarn is my new obsession!

I’m doing the brim in the new Travertine and the body of the hat in Marble. I knit Fartlek before in Pumice (details here) and I’m looking forward to a whole new look of this hat in two colors. In case you did a double take two sentences back – yes! we have NEW colors of Stone Soup and we have them in Fingering and DK!

River Rock is a rich, chocolatey brown

and Travertine is a warm, soft brown that reminds me of wet clay on a wheel.

The two of these colors compliment each other beautifully and are also stunning on their own.

Cable Keyhole Scarf is a perfect quick knit for Fall. With just one skein of Stone Soup DK, you can make two scarves! That means one for you and one for the gift bin!

And once you get hooked on cables, you can move on to getting an Aztec Mazes on the needles.

This version was knit in Breakfast Blend DK, but just imagine it in the subtly tweedy texture of Stone Soup DK!

Or maybe you’re wanting to cover up this winter with a Wheaten blanket. A great way to get comfortable with the stitch pattern is to first work up Wheaten Cap and Mitts.

WheatenCapMitts840_72dpi

This version was knit in Stone Soup Fingering River Rock. Wouldn’t it be so sweet to give a couple the gift of Wheaten for the holidays? The girl could get the cap and mitt set and the guy could get the blanket!

Maybe there’s a new baby needing a warm welcome into the world and Sky Ladder would make a sweet little gift.

Plus there’s a matching cap too!

This set was knit in pumice and I bet it would be lovely knit in one of the new browns!

I’m still deciding what blanket I want to cast on. There’s so many gorgeous ones! I was really set on Caravan,

Caravan983_72dpi

but now I’m leaning towards Roger That after seeing WelshSteph’s blanket in Stone Soup DK in Granite.

Isn’t it divine!? And her wallpaper is fantastic! See details on her ravelry project page here.

Anne has carefully chosen the new browns to work well with the rest of the Stone Soup palette, so you have even more options for colorwork. I think a Hazard throw in all the Stone Soup Colors would be quite the show piece.

Imagine this wrap in a stripey blanket version! And depending on the yardage you need to plan the colors of your throw, we have Halfsies (half skeins) available here.

Even though Anne’s blanket patterns are designed for specific weights, they can easily be knit with other ones and a needle change. For instance my mom is knitting Comfort Me

in Breakfast Blend DK on a US #7, instead of the Confection Worsted it was knit in above. You can easily customize Anne’s blanket designs to fit the weight and size you prefer to knit.

What blanket or sweater are you dreaming of casting on? Tell me in the comments by 9 pm EST September 23 and I’ll pick TWO WINNERS to get a pattern of their choice! Speaking of contests, thank you all for entering the Garden Inspired Knits giveaway. The winners are Anya and Shelley!

  1. I’m still wanting to knit blochness! I just ordered yarn for it. Once I get some other things out of the way!

  2. Artus & Anne!!! Can’t wait for the pattern release. But I have yarn in stash for several– Blochness, India Print Henley, Blumchen, a second Sprossling, Henley with a Twist, Highlander, Leaving, Henley with a Twist. And I’m in the middle of Caissa and Rene. Sometimes it’s a wonder I get anything finished!

  3. I’ve been wanting to knit Ivar, but I do have some friends with babies on the way, so perhaps a Sky Ladders blanket would be a better choice…

  4. I’ve been spinning for Wheaten. I just today finished plying 3,000+ yards for the project. I have a queue of Anne’s blankets!

  5. I want to cast on Dutch Tiles, but our weather is still in the 90’s so it will have to wait. However, I have the yarn (Confection) for a Pedal Pusher and am anxiously waiting pattern release!

  6. Roger that looks like a great blanket that will keep my attention. Actually, so does Dutch Tiles, Sky Ladder,…… On the sweater front, I love Highlander…. So many projects, so little time!

  7. We just moved into a two-story house with so much more room and opportunities for decorating. I am on a afghan kick, one for our living room, one to throw over our bed and a third for our upstairs bedroom. Caravan is just the pattern I have been looking for my new bedroom and Roger That is a fave every time I see it on the blog.

  8. I’m thinking about Roger That or Dutch Tiles. Or Wheaten, maybe.
We had frost the other night so throws are calling me!

  9. Since I prefer reversible patterns for throws – Dutch Tiles is calling to me! Will probably have to wait until temps drop under 90 to want to deal with a project that big but I can dream. We’re soon retiring and moving a bit north so I’ll be able to keep some of my knitting for myself for a change!

  10. Caissa has been in my queue for awhile and I think it’s time to start on this cozy looking sweater

  11. Comfort Me just looks so warm and squishy this chilly 34deg morning! I would love to be wrapped up in it with a nice hot cup of tea.

  12. Roger That or Wheaten.

Or Highlander, Whitfield, Rene… They are all lovely and I love all the neutral browns. So me.

  13. I have been wanting to knit Ivar (especially after seeing the completed sweaters on ravelry). It’s such a great design.

  14. Lovely photos – I’ll be knitting Anne Hanson’s India Print Henley from Anne Budd’s Knitter’s Handy Book of Top Down Sweaters. Thankfully, the windows are still open here in Minnesota!

  15. I have been slowly knitting my way through Anne’s blanket patterns and would love to knit Wheaten next.

  16. I would love to knit a Honey Baby. It is such a beautiful pattern. Maybe I will get around to it for the baby that I am expecting in March…

  17. Comfort Me blanket has been begging me to knit it since it came out. A blanket is such a big commitment, I have to love it to get started. Not that this is a problem with Anne’s classic patterns!

  18. My favorite pattern – though it is really hard to choose just one favorite – is the Hourglass Throw pattern. It would suit so many different types of decor that I think it would make a great gift. Someday.

  19. Wheaten for me, I have liked it since it first came out and have enjoyed looking at all the versions on Ravelry.

  20. Hourglass and Wheaten, at least one this year. I still need to finish Comfort Me and am hoping that the change in the weather will hasten my progress!

  21. Oh man, I love using knit blankets but I really need some knit sweaters, I love to knit shawls hats and socks so it’s such a hard decision !

  22. “The two of these colors compliment each other beautifully …”: I am enjoying picturing the two skeins on the shelf telling each other how wonderful they are 🙂

I am certain however that one would receive many compliments if one were to knit a hat using colors that complEment each other so well.

  23. Now that cooler weather is coming I want to knit another Caravan with the extra camel yarn I accumulated last year. It’s so cozy!

  24. Well, just going through my queue there’s . . . Leaving, Rene’, Henley w/a Twist, Blumchen, Wheaton, and the Hourglass Throw. Right now I’m working on Rain on a Hot Tin Roof!

  25. This is too hard (whining)–seriously, there are several I’d like to cast on right now. The goobalini looks good.

P.S. Padraig looks cute helping in the garden.

  26. I’ve started Rene, for my husband, using Fourth of July from Briar Rose. He picked this out himself…a first for him…when he went with me to Shepherds Harvest last spring. The back’s half done; it will be cold in Minnesota soon enough!

  27. I love your Goobalini hat in the two colours – that blue looks fabulous with the grey of the Stone Soup. I have a ‘blankie to knit’ list as long as your arm! Comfort Me, Roger That and a couple more, not to mention Blumchen, Sprossling and Henley with a Twist. Oh yes, and Ivar ………..

  28. It is hard to choose but I would pick Sky Ladder or Roger That. I love how Anne gives so many sizes for her patterns. Sky Ladder goes from a scarf to a blanket.

  29. I dream of Wheaten the blanket or Leaving the sweater, but there are a few lace scarves and socks to knit first!

  30. I really want to cast on for Leaving in Stone Soup. Of course, I also dream of knitting a Wheaten blanket (and hat and mitts)! Wish I had more time to knit!

  31. This is a hard choice. Anne’s patterns are all so lovely. I think I would like to try the Roger That pattern.

  32. I’m eager to see the Artus and Anne pattern. I’ve had the yarn for a while (Sea Pearl) and it would be an interesting switch from the Rene I’ve been knitting.

  33. totally would love the Roger That one It would make me so happy to have that on my lap this winter. Happier than a bread basket.

  34. Crocus Patch (with matching hat), Roger That, and ALL the Wheatens! And then there’s the sweaters… *swoon*
