no whining today

yeah, i hate that, don’t you?? going on and on about an annoyance? let’s put the yarn issues aside for now, and sit back and talk about knitting.

no—actually, let’s talk about why most of you have not entered the contest! it’s SO easy—just write a little ditty about what you would knit if you could, say, make something for george clooney. (I would make him a lace scarf that fits me, using fearless fobers midnight rendevous, and proceed to wear only THAT on a date with him . . .or just for driving around taking his picture each evening).
there, see how easy that was??
ok, NOW we can talk about knitting.

no, wait—first, lemme show you something pretty. not that my knitting isn’t, but . . .

look at these crazy lupine flowers! (when i snapped this, it was raining so hard i had to do it from the porch.) last year this was a new plant, and i was astounded by the size and height of the flower then, but i had NO idea that it would come back this year with 5 or 6 even bigger flowers! i’m totally in awe that this thing grows in our garden. i might have to get me some more of those . . .

i know sock updates can be boring, but that’s all i really have for ya! since i finished those brown tweed sox a while ago, and i was ITCHING to get another sock started with some of my new yarn, i allowed my self to cast on with the Briar Rose
sweet freedom sock yarn i bought at wooster last weekend.

this very rich mix of autumn colors is just what i needed to balance out all of the green things i am knitting right now (two pair of green sox, one green stole, and about to start a skirt with green, and another green stole!). the colors are making a perfect spiral down the cuff so far.
it knits up slightly heftier than trekking or GGH, but i like that in a sock; makes me feel it will last.

i finished one of those GGH marathon socks last night, and got started right away on sock two, so it would be ready to to go anywhere at a moment’s notice (these are particularly good take-along sox)

and the night before that, i finished one of the camo socks i’m making for david (that’s right, two for me, one for him)

make that three for me and one for him—in a stunning show of reawakened ambition, i have leapt forward on hollySock number two, after an excruciatingly slow start (hmm, very reminiscent of hollySock one, come to think of it).

you know, just KNOWING how a yarn will perform on down the road, really changes a lot of issues for me during the knitting. i have mentioned several times how unenjoyable this yarn can be to knit. but, it is incredibly enjoyable to HAVE knitted it, too! (remember, i have enough for a large sweater for david in my stash and these socks were a test for whether i would be able to commit to a sweater out of it). having that old sweater i made years ago from this yarn, and all the wonderful memories it holds, really makes it one that i still want to knit with. when i will actually begin that project, i can’t really say, but i will say that i think a holly red sweater is in my husband’s future (and won’t that look good? mmmm).
