cradle me

a squishy-soft baby blanket is an almost irresistible project for knitters—small enough to start and finish in a short time and easy to travel with, such a project can be knit with a specific recipient in mind or stored away for future giving. a blanket makes an especially thoughtful gift with lots of wow factor for an expecting family. this one, knit in a deliciously lofty sport yarn, has a deep, appealing texture and substance, while remaining light and airy.

and if a cuddly adult throw is more to your taste, try this pattern in heavier yarn on larger needles for perfect accompaniment to TV night.

shown here: carriage sized blanket, in knitting notions classic merino sport, colorway winter sky, a soft gray-blue with touches of lavender that will steal your heart.

catherine at knitting notions sure knows how to pick a yarn base; i loved every single minute of knitting with this soft, delectable sport yarn. see catherine’s entire selection of yarns and knitting accessories in her online shop or look for her throughout the summer at one of the wool shows on her busy calendar.

  1. I agree with Liz….it is beautiful! I love the way the stitches show off the yarn and just make you want to wrap a lovely baby up in it! Thanks for sharing!

  2. I couldn’t wait for this pattern. I think I would like it as an adult throw, as well as its intent, a baby blanket. The yarn is really nice.

  3. absolutely beautiful! this is a baby blanket you would keep forever. i like the color choice, it could be for boy or girl.

btw- i just noticed the donkey, in the first picture of yesterdays post, is smiling. i missed that yesterday somehow. thats cute.

  4. Thank you so much for releasing this pattern so quickly! I just ordered it along with the yarn for our brand new godson. I can’t wait to get started on it 🙂

  5. Ooooh, I have been watching your blog waiting for this pattern. I have a great-neice/nephew due in October for whom I want to knit this. The parents are supposed to be finding out soon if it is a little girl or boy. I have pink or blue yarn ready to go (and now the pattern) as soon as they let me know. Absolutely beautiful!!!

  6. It’s lovely Anne. Makes me wish I knew of a baby to knit for. Oh wait! I do!

  7. Some friends of mine just found out that their previously sexless babyblob will be a boy, and this pattern is wonderfully gender neutral! I knew I wanted to make them something, and now I have a target (and about four months to go)!

  8. I’ve been watching you make and show this blanket from the beginning. I’m so thrilled to see the pattern available that I’ve already purchased it and am making plans to knit up the biggest size. I’d love a nice lap blanket for myself and this is perfect. Thanks Anne for another wonderful pattern.

  9. No babies on my radar, but I cannot WAIT to make this blanket!!! It is soooo appealing!!! You really are a great designer Anne. Just sayin’. . . . .

  10. Anne, I love, love this blanket. I have also been watching your progress on this blanket and waiting for the pattern. I just purchased it and printed it out. I am planning to make the small size for a baby blanket. You are an amazing knitter Anne, thanks so much for your beautiful patterns and wonderful photography.

  11. I didn’t think I would like this one – something about the stitch pattern. But I really like the end result. I love watching you design because you use stitch patterns I wouldn’t expect to like, but the result is usually lovely.

  12. lovely! you managed to release this pattern on the very day that my friend liz found out the gender of her forthcoming baby, aka the day i can finally start knitting for her. it’s (going to be) a girl, so i think i’m going to make this in a nice seafoam green.
