so happy to wake up this morning in a nation that now ensures marriage equality for all.

rainbowGrays06_27

so when erica got to the office this morning and opened the shop, we had some fun creating rainbows to participate in a yarn world day of celebration.

we found rainbows in all shades, just like the people we rub shoulders with daily.

some are cool and sophisticated, others are warm and inviting.

  1. What a ceative way to celebrate the court’s affirmation for our friends and our commitment to justice and equality for all! The Supremes made me do a happy dance this past week. Love that they didn’t gut affordable care. Having gone through the anxiety of a period without health coverage and know how stressful it can be!

  2. Some of us who embrace the wisdom of nature and chose to lives our lives respecting that wisdom may not share your joy.

Perhaps leaving political ideologies to other venues will allow people who have different view points to enjoy your knitting blog without feeling excluded and possibly berated for following a different path.

Since the door has been opened, however, I feel compelled to present the following opinion.

Careful reading of Chief Justice Roberts’ dissenting opinion read from the bench highlights the dangers of the Supreme Court Justices becoming legislators:
(highlights) “The majority (of SC justices) today relies on its own understanding of what freedom is and must become,” he said to the court, and the deepest problem with their decision was “the disrespect it shows the democratic process.”

With this decision, proponents of same-sex marriage lost the opportunity to win acceptance through the democratic process, he said, and “they lose this just when the winds of change were freshening at their backs.”

“Five lawyers,” he said, deemed themselves chosen, “to burst the bonds of history.”

Roberts wrote that the majority’s approach was “deeply disheartening,” and he criticized what he considered to be its activism. “Whether same-sex marriage is a good idea should be of no concern to us. Under the Constitution, judges have power to say what the law is, not what it should be,” he wrote.

31 of 50 United States defined marriage between a man and a woman. That is almost a 2/3rds majority. For the Federal Government to subvert the clear will of the people flies in the face of the government tyranny people have been coming here to escape since North America was discovered.

Whether one supports “gay-marriage” or not the eroding of the Constitutional separation of Executive, Legislative, and Judicial Branches of government established by the Founding Fathers should be a concern to us all.

I use natural fibers because I believe man made yarns (or ideas for that mater) will never surpass the beauty, harmony, and wonder of the bounty nature provides. I also choose to consistently adapt that philosophy in other areas of my life – including food, lifestyle, and politics. I find it’s healthier and less stressful for me to have underlying principles that govern my life.

I hope those who disagree will respond respectfully.

  3. Respectfully: It seems to me (as I do not speak for anyone else) that one’s personal blog is just the right venue to express support for a decision that is personally meaningful. We have many options about what we choose to read, and where we choose to shop, especially online, and it is not hard to align ourselves with those with which we feel compatible. Or not, as we choose.

  4. wonderful post Anne. What a beautiful collection of sweaters. I find it amazing that someone finds just reading a post with an opinion that differs than their own offensive.
