newsflash:deb at Fearless Fibers Yarn blog is running a contest! go see how you can qualify to win some of her terrific hand-dyed yarn!

tour de france begins today and here at chez knitspot, we are all set for this much-anticipated event, and chomping at the bit! each year, david and i faithfully watch each stage of this great race with relish. for a few glorious years, we got to see ALL the major tours in their entirety on OLN, but nowadays, we have to settle for weekend updates during the giro and the vuelta, and one measly cycling program each sunday that highlights the classics races. but for the tour de france, we get the whole smorgasbørd! YAY! i’m sure a few of you know how much we love our cycling.

and this year is very special. in previous seasons, our faithful VCR taped all the programming for the race each day and we would watch it at night. this is fine for the technical race information, but we really like to drool over the scenery too,

and the videotaped programs are a little lacking in that area. but this year, that will all be different. a couple of weeks ago, time warner came and installed a DVR becasue they are changing all their systems to work through that. so, we did not have to pay for it (it’s been “discussed” in our home several times and the the “discussion” always ends with me saying no—i’m not mean-hearted, really—i just think there should be a limit to what we spend on TV; it ain’t THAT great). anyway, with this change of equipment, we get to see the whole thing in HD-quality. so, though i would not run out and buy picture-enhancing thingamajobbies, i will enjoy the one i get “free” with my overly expensive T-W suscription.

and thus, i will be transported back to that gorgeous country where, from our humble little rental house in the aging spa town of gréoux, we woke each morning to this

and we met friends everywhere we rode

and now, off to watch the bike races.
next time, i think i will talk about the spinning/cycling connection.
