i have too been knitting

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

i have! i mean, hey i can’t NOT knit, y’know?
evne if i’m not making something, i’m swatching, just to have it in my hands. literally. ask david.

so, i’ve been working on something i hate, for someone i love. but working steadily and making progress. it’s almost done, too.

the only reason that i am able to knit this, is that knitting it means i can avoid shopping for the swimsuit to go with it. debbie and i have had a standing date to shop for the suit for a while now, and, due to unpredictable circumstances, she’s had to cancel several times (YAY! woo-woo! i mean, er darn it). the suit is not for me—it’s not that. i just hate shopping. hate.

almost as much as i hate working with this yarn! there is nothing wrong with the yarn, don’t get me wrong. yarn is fine. it’s me. i hate these types of slinky, chenille-y, accessory project yarns.
but my niece. she. will. flip. when she gets this swim wrap.

this wrap is SO her, that is it completely negates the necessity that she even BE there to be noticed in it. she can casually throw it aside, forgotten on a chaise, to go splash in the pool, and and the boys will throng around it vying for its attentions.
(i thought my brother would appreciate that)

i just wish i could be there to watch her sashay around the house in it.
cuz you know, she’s like that. she shows up accessorized at breakfast each day.
i LOVE it. i am SO not like that, but always wanted to be . . . i just feel too busy for that—know what i mean?
i find that kind of outRAGEous-ness enchanting, and i’d be envious if i wasn’t so thrilled by it.

ok, so that is almost ready to bind off, and my skirt is this close to being done—i wove in all my ends over coffee yesterday and now just need to finish the drawcord and have david take some snaps of me riding my bike in it. tomorrow—i promise.

i dunno what it is, but i always have to have my knitting right there.
where? right. there.
within an arm’s length is preferable. therefore, any place in the house that looks like a relaxing area, probably has a mountain of junk posited somewhere nearby.
like in the TV room? i have an entire danish modern buffet cabinet just beyond my reach next to my end of the sofa, to hold all my books, curretn projects, and well, stuff. but because it IS just beyond my reach, i had to repurpose my exercise stepstool to hold the continuing sock parade

these newest ones have been languishing a bit, because i am concentrating my small amount of knitting time on the birthday gifts. but those beautiful blue ones are for a barter, so i can’t ignore them forever. if i could just get a few inches onto them, i would be so much more likely to add a bit each night.

so, the TV is quickly becoming a bit messy with knitstuff. what can i do? and does it matter?
i mean, who live here, house and garden? NO!
anyone who doesn’t like it is welcome to come over ANY time to straighten up.

sorry. i have no idea where that came from.

i have also done a few rows on the desk sock, but i dunno if it shows.

and look! that stitch on the calendar is one that i used in the wooster shawl, which is the next pattern i need to write. i need a little break, and then maybe in a week or so i’ll start on that.

see what else i’ve got?? one of the trek sock bags in retro-pinky! i’ve been hiding it because i’m a little ashamed of it. i don’t really know why i traded for it—i don’t know if i will use it, but i liked it. however, i’ve been keeping it on my desk to remind me not to acquire things in that way. without a purpose. even great things.

and now, what’s for lunch?

  1. Why don’t you give that girl a gift card for Old Navy – you really can’t buy her a suit! She really needs to try it on! Old Navy has GREAt things for teens and she can shop online! How cool is that? No shopping!!! I HATE to shop too!

  2. Four socks – if you are not hiding some more – on the needles… Is there any lace anywhere now? The skirt and the wrap almost done… Seems to me you need to start some new projects, socks don’t count.

  3. Your description and pix of your projects everywhere made me laugh 🙂 The other day, a friend of my hubby’s stopped by unexpectedly. I was upstairs but I could still hear him saying to my hubby in a semi-whispher (knowing I was nearby, I suppose), “Damn, there’s yarn EVERYWHERE!”

Hey, lots of yarn means a happy home, doesn’t it?

  4. Those tomatoes are begging to be dried then stored in olive oil.

Ah, the young don’t know they have it so good! Love the gift wrap. In an earlier picture the needles looked bigger, what sizes are you using. (OK I’ll be truthful: the big ones looked like my DH’s work. 🙂

  5. LOVE the wrap and were I anywhere near you (but since you talk heat and humidity, I guess it’s fairly far from Ireland) it would go into MY grasping paws, nobody else’s. What yarn did you use for it?

I really don’t think you have enough projects on the go. Do you have a problem perhaps – like thinking you should finish even one teeny one before starting twelve more? FORGET YOUR GUILT! Make your motto, ‘Have I started something new today?’
    Love
