bittersweet vines

Posted on Posted in patterns

ever wonder what happens to all those secret projects i talk about? some of them go away and appear only in someone else’s book or a magazine. some of them are temporarily exclusive for a club or magazine and they make their way back home at some point, so i can share them.

this neckwarmer and mitts set is one of those—designed near the end of 2009 for the woolgirl “embrace the lace” club, this is a very quick knit with lace every which way, all of it easily worked. a little victorian, made modern with some whimsical buttons; this might be one to consider for the gift list . . .

shown above, size small in lobster pot yarns baby camel, a 100% camel aran weight yarn, in colorway spiced pumpkin.

i purchased the acorn buttons at my local jo-ann fabric shop, but they can be found online as well.

  1. Thank you-Love it!!!! A lace neckwarmer that I can use!! My hair is extra long, and I just can’t wear the pull over the head ones.

  2. is there anything knittable that you don’t turn into a jewel? Seriously. Of course, you are using MY colors here and the acorn buttons are to die for! Bravo, great work.

  3. Beautiful pattern and perfect yarn. And those buttons! Really? At Joann? I’ve never seen anything that cool at the Joann in my neighborhood.

  4. Oh snapdragon, Anne! You’ve done it again! I love the way you work wonders with aran weight (and sport weight, and lace weight, and…. 🙂 ).

  5. How appropo! I was just thinking about knitting up this very Woolgirl lace club kit for a gift. My favorite part was finding the acorn buttons at Joann’s Fabrics.

  6. I test knit this pattern for Woolgirl and it was one of my faves! What a great design. It looks complicated and beautiful, but it’s a really quick knit. Start to finish was just a few days and the camel yarn was luxurious.
