oh, my. i really wish i had pictures

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

things have been a bit busy around here. but i am still knitting! i think i have to hold my cards a little closer to my chest about how far i am along, though, because everyone has gotten secretive all of a sudden. hmmmm. what do you think that means?? are they getting bored, and afraid to show a lack of knitting? or are they on to the edging already??
(insert shark music here)

anyone who is backing me in the shawl race needs to go over to cheryl’s blog, Seed Stitch, and place a bet on me. i strolled over there just now, and support for me is sorely lacking. i’m going to take that as a sign that in your enthusiasm for my ability to win, you totally missed that you need to actually place a bet.

but in case support for the knitspot team IS actually that low . . . i just want to point out that if when i DO win, each person in that tiny pool of betters will have a great chance of securing a prize. jus’ sayin’ . . .

now, let me explain that, although i started late and have very little time to knit, as far as i can tell, i have probably caught up to the competition (insert demure smile, eyes askance, accompanied by toe shuffling . . .). as i said—jus sayin’ . . .

i also have REALLY nice friends, who have emailed me to say they want to add to the prize kitty. Rebecca in france is sending the fonty equivalent of douceur et soie.
how much do we LOVE her!? thank you rebecca, we bow to your graciousness!

and chris of Briar Rose Fibers (you know those awesome autumn spiral sox i made?—yup, her yarn!) is going to offer plenty of her grandma’s blessing fingering yarn to complete the shawl. i dunno what color she is planning on yet, but i DO know it will be gorgeous. and since chris has a website, you can go there yourself and let her know how lucky we feel to be her friend.

i am throwing in patterns (winner’s choice), and hand-dyed laceweight mohair.

so get your pretty patooties over to cheryl’s and get in on the fun! you don’t HAVE to bet on me—seriously, go for the one of us that looks best! cheryl has all the participants listed. everyone of us is putting up prizes. julia is going to donate money to a great cause. everybody get happy!

and, as if all of that wasn’t enough, i am going to donate 10% of moth shawl proceeds that come in by August 31, to Knitters Without Borders, a cause i am wholly behind in every way. so if you are even thinking that you might want to buy a pattern, do it before the end of the month and your purchase will bring you double the joy.

now, today i have no pictures of my own stuff AT ALL. why? i dunno!
i usually go around and take them when i get up, while the coffeee is perking. and suddenly, it is near 11 pm, and i am just realizing that it’s too dark to take any.

but i have lots of news. (and for those of you that are getting tired of news concerning moth shawls, you can skip to the end—sorry, it’s been kind of overwhelming. i’ll probably be back to regular posts about socks and tomatoes tomorrow or the next day; this can’t last forever.)

anyway, for those who are interested, elizabeth let me know today that there is a thread for the moth shawl going on the knitter’s review forum.
and there is a yahoo group of shawl knitters, where the pattern was also mentioned and is being worked by several members.
there is another group called Fibertraditions at yahoo with members talking about moth shawls.
i’m sure these will be great resources for anyone who has questions or thoughts to share as they work through the pattern.

i will address any updates or errors that are discovered on the moth shawl page we created. simply click on the button at the top of the sidebar if you think something is funky and are looking for errata listings. so far, there is just one tiny thing i found yesterday, when i was reading it with a student. it is a typo that does not affect any numbers or anything, but you might want to take a look.

also, i now have pictures from leah of the completed doll shawl, which i added to that page as well

many of you will recognize that this is one of the American Girl dolls. and look how wel the lil shawl fit her! i didn’t exactly think it would, but it looks great.

and i know my goddaughter, who received one for her birthday, just loves her doll shawl—her mom told me she especially seems to like that she can wear it as a scarf as well.

well, i have a date with a certain knitting project, so i better skedaddle!

  1. I’m certainly shaking in my boots. I too have notices the trend of silence amongst us racers. Hmmmmm, I wonder what we’re up to? Way to go for more awesome prizes!

  2. I just ordered your beautiful shawl pattern. Is it sent through email? I’m not sure which email address Paypal provided to you???

  3. I already bet on you but I’m willing to go over and bet again! I have confidence in you.

I love the doll shawl. SO cute! I might just have to make one. Or two. Or four. I have two little girls who have four dolls between them. I love that the girls can wear it as a scarf. Is the doll pattern part of the big girl pattern or is it separate?

  4. Anne,

Have no doubt whatsoever that you will be the hands down winner. You may come off at first glance as kind of laid back, but just a few times in your presence and one gets to know that you can be pretty intense. Some of us knitters get that way. Staying up til the last possible moment to get that gift we promised done, and it has to be right as well. Ah me. Wish I could get in on the shawl action, cause it’s drop dead georgeous, but I’ve got, let’s see..1,2,3,4,5, yeah 5 projects going right now and another would be madness. But it is drop dead georgeous….
