thanksgiving is my very favorite holiday. ushering in winter for real, and celebrating all things warm, it always signals for me the kickoff of the holiday knitting spree that will consume me for the next few weeks.
i know i should start sooner, but i never do. that’s just the way i am. it doesn’t feel right to start earlier, and i’ve stopped expecting to get myeslf to try.

so to celebrate the grand kickoff, what did i knit today? did i work on the jumper for my cute little niece or the many pairs of socks for various other family members?

NO! hahaha!
actually, i might do that later on tonight, but right now, i am finishing my red sweater.
readers—i am about 8 rows from completion, and completely unapologetic about such a selfish use of my time. here’s where i was at this morning

it seemed to go from interminably long rounds around the upper arm area, to incredibly short rows around the neck in no time—the space of one evening? no—had to be two, right . . . ??
anyway, i’ll be wearing that baby tomorrow. i’ll probably look like a”red hot” candy in it, but it will be warm. i think i’ll get up early and take it for a walk around the neighborhood and get some dogs barking.

we’ve had three—THREE!—brilliantly beautiful fall days in a row here. nothing like some sun to brighten my spirits and bring my energy back. wow.

of course, i didn’t work on the sweater ALL day—there was a good meal to make. we don’t eat turkey, and this year it was just the two of us, so david suggested baked macaroni and cheese. mine has 3 or 4 cheeses and a surprise in the bottom—broccoli.

and you know we can’t just make one dish—we made a big batch and put some in the freezer for busy work days. and then i made his favorite pie—pecan fudge

mmm . . . we are so thankful to be celebrating this holiday by being together, not working, and enjoying such good foods. i hope all of you have a wonderful day like that too, in whatever shape or form you like best.

  1. You will be “red hot” in your sweater! It’s amazing and will look beautiful on you. Dinner looks great but the pie looks heavenly. A good kick-off to holiday knitting. Enjoy!

  2. Your sweater is going to look so amazing – what a gorgeous colorway, and the pattern is absolutely beautiful! And gosh – that pecan pie! I’m drooling all over here – what would I give to have a slice of this now – or 2… or 3…
    Happy Thanksgiving!

  3. I’ve only just started reading your blog. Love the sweater. Can you share the source? The yarn looks like Manos or Malabrigo. Is it? Gorgeous colorway. Enjoy your delicious-looking leftovers!

  4. Your sweater is gorgeous and I love the different cabling. Your Thanksgiving meal looks like a carb fest – yummy. Happy Thanksgiving.
