i think we know what’s on all our minds this evening. clickety-click-click. olympic glory!

i have to make this very quick because i have not cast on yet; it was a busy day for work (you’d never know it from the way i talk about knitting, but i actually have a really hectic “day” job!).

first, i want to introduce my team; the canton lacepacers! i joined up with a couple of friends who will awe you and me with their knitterly fortitude.

(someday i will figure out how to get the flags in the sidebar, hopefully this weekend). beth is knitting the Feather and Fan shawl, and debbie is knitting a challenging cabled scarf. in fact, debbie is courageously REknitting it, after a frustrating encounter with it at christmas time. she pulled it all out and will re-do it for the olympics. now THAT is tlacepacer spirit!

so, what is everyone else making??!! i would love to hear about projects. and if there are canton-ites that are joining in who would like to send pix or join our team, please do! whether knitting lace or not, you will be heralded as a lacepacer and added to the site.

i will knit a lace shawl of my own design with this:

it is spun from my friend beckie’s shetland sheep; there is a very dark brown and a medium gray. and then i also have (not pictured) some handspun icelandic thel from another nearby farm. it’s all wool i bought at the wooster festival last spring. so i think i have to name the shawl something with wooster in it.

oh boy, i am SO excited! starting a new project for a really good reason.

i did finish my ostrich plume shawl in time and got that all blocked and dried. want to see it? well, ok, you twisted my arm. it’s really hard to decide which picture i like best, so i’ll show it from a couple of angles. let’s have a look at it while it was being blocked (scroll down to yesterday’s post to see it unblocked):

i wanted to get it 72 inches, but settled for 70. and here it is off the pins, in an attractive floor arrangement:

and here it is comfotably draped over a chair.

it wraps around enough to criss-cross and drape a little without it being too much fabric. so, it could also be a really frothy scarf. and it’s soft and pretty too!! if only my olympic shawl could be this good. (sigh). i can dream.

i haven’t even really swatched yet. but tonite is the night! knit on, olympians!
