dashing out

i’m sure by now everyone is aware of this, but i want to mention it before i start yakking about the new scarf project.

it is time for Claudia’s big ride for MS. evey year she rides 150 miles to raise money for Knitters Against MS. this is a great cause and i hope you will consider supporting it.

here at knitspot, we will have a special booster campaign in june to celebrate father’s day and raise even MORE money for claudia’s ride. i organize it in memory of my dad, who died from advanced MS a few years ago, and it involves matching funds, prizes, and lots of excitement. last year knitspot readers contributed over $500, and this year there are SO many more of you—i can’t WAIT to see what happens.

around the first of june i will let you know the rules, of our drawing, but there’s no need to hold back til then! you will still be eligible if you give your support to claudia now.

in the meantime, i will be assessing my stash and my box of sample knits, with an eye for prize potential. and if any of you has a little prize they would like to contribute, please let me know—all comers welcome!
i already know that something yummy from Briar Rose Fibers will be in the kitty.

ok, so now we can talk about me and my knitting.

um, well, .. . i actually only have one picture today.
i was busy.
(no, i haven’t packed yet . . . and i have to leave at 6:30 am)

anyway . . . i started the orchid scarf last night and got a lot done in just a couple of hours

the yarn is delightful. i am so happy to be knitting this piece with it. of course, i can’t go wrong with gray—it’s my mood color. i’m diggin’ the pattern; i think it will have some of the flavor of the chrysler building . . .
i am taking this one with me on my trip, along with the remainder of teosinte2 (just a cuff left), and maybe a mystery project. i’ll probably pack one more thing just in case (don’t laugh—last time i was there i ran out).

of course, i’m only going for 3 days.
which means i only need room for an extra couple of tops and some underwear.

david will be watching the store. have a great weekend everybody and happy mother’s day to all.

  1. Have fun!!! Can’t go wrong with taking extra yarn:) I’d love to donate something….email me when you get back.

  2. I’m a longtime supporter of Claudia’s MS ride. I didn’t realize you raise money for this, too, due to a personal experience. I’ll share the wealth and support you, too.

  3. Oh I really like the Deco-ness of the orchid scarf! I look forward to seeing how it turns out.

    Have a safe trip!

  4. Glad to hear I’m not the only last-minute packer! I leave tomorrow afternoon for a cruise and haven’t packed yet!

I already contribued to Claudia’s ride. Here’s hoping your efforts will bring in lots more contributions. 🙂

Oh, and the scarf is looking lovely!

  5. MS is one of the most insidious, debilitating diseases. Several years ago, I lost my childhood friend to MS. She was only 51. My deep sympathy to you and your family about your Dad. I understand what you all went through.

  6. I have relapsing remitting Multiple Sclerosis (diagnosed in 2001). I just went and donated again to Claudia’s ride. I’m not able to walk or ride myself, just taking care of my 3 girls is a daily challenge, but I really do appreciate all of those who do. And of course I donated. Thank you for mentioning this on your blog Anne. I’ve still not sat down with the starlight evening wrap… I’m waiting for that ever-evasive quiet moment.

  7. You did make good progress with the scarf. You can never have too much yarn that is for sure.

    Have a safe trip.

  8. It is looking great. enjoy the trip. It will be truly beautiful when finished.

  9. What Carole said! I found out about the ride several years ago when one of my good friends did the ride in recognition of her Mom who has MS. She only did it the one year so I was glad to find Claudia and support her. I will be more than happy to support you too! Have a great time in Albany.

  10. While I don’t know that I can do the bike thing anymore, I am happy to donate something for a prize :-).

    Have fun on your trip!!!!

  11. oh! corbett is IN catskill … just look up http://www.variegatedinc.com/ (he modeled your lace last october).
and you got that much lace knitting done in 2 hrs?! wow.
seems i’m a day late and a dollar short. have a good trip, and there’s no such thing as taking too much yarn. you just have to be creative with how you pack it. i have this fear of running out too (which might explain the gigantic stash).

  12. I probably have something I could donate as a prize – let me look at the stash this weekend and let you know Monday. Have a safe, fun-filled trip!!

  13. I’d love to donate a prize . . . please contact me so we can make arrangments. Perhaps some sock yarn or some lace weight? Drop me a note when you get back from your trip.

  14. Have a delightful time! 🙂

I’m going to see my mother too! First time since New Year’s. She’ll be here any minute now…

  15. What a beautiful start to the scarf 🙂 Good luck with the fundraiser, I hope to be able to donate 🙂

I tagged you on my blog, check it out! 🙂
