motheye

Posted on Posted in patterns

after a wonderful weekend of teaching in rochester, ny, i am taking a couple of days off with my friends cookie and laura to knit, talk shop, and roam the wine trails along the finger lakes of central new york state.

and yesterday, on a hill overlooking seneca lake, we took just a little of that time to take photos of the motheye scarves to accompany today’s pattern release.

i’m very grateful to laura and cookie for agreeing to model them—don’t they look wonderful? we managed to get a nice series of shots in just before the rain began to fall.

shown above in spirit trail nona, a soft and silky merino/cashmere/silk blend in the gorgeous rosewood colorway.

jen will be restocking her online shop very soon and bringing plenty of nona along to the knitters review retreat this weekend, where the red scarf will be on display in her booth.

we’re very lucky that our friend vanessa, who test knit the scarf, was willing to lend me her sample for a slightly extended period of time so i could use it along with my own sample in the photo shoot.

hers was knit in zen yarn garden serenity silk +, also in merino/cashmere/silk, this time in frosted kiwi.

cookie and i have been so lucky to have a couple of days to hang out with our friend laura here in this beautiful area of new york state. it’s a very interesting time of year here—there is a sense of quietude and expectancy in the air for the signs that mark the descent of winter—early nightfall, those first flurries of snow, the last falling leaves.

it’s supposed to snow tomorrow, in fact—i’m a little glad this will be my last travel for a while . . .

though it will be nice to end the teaching year in the company of several of my favorite people—it’ll be great to see jen from spirit trail, whose beautiful nona yarn inspired this design, among others. thank you jen for sharing your talents so generously!

i won’t see roxanne from zen yarn garden this weekend but i want to thank her too—that skein of green yarn was a gift from her at knitters fair and it is perfect for this scarf—thank you roxanne!

and now a few more views of these two lovely pieces and our even more lovely models . . . thank you laura and cookie!

  1. Perfect! I’m just about to frog the beginning of a scarf that was just the wrong pattern for the yarn. Your Motheye is just the thing for my pretty silver skein!

  2. Oh the rosewood ~ sigh ~ now I’m even more anxious to start Bel Air in my rosewood Sunna. And I happen to have a skein of Claret Nona that would be perfect for this design. Enjoy the last beautiful days of fall!

  3. It was just a delight to have you in Rochester, and we hope you will be visiting this area again soon! The motheye is a winner…sigh, my queue grows ever longer.

  4. You are in my neck of the woods…Ithaca! It is supposed to snow but its actually been freakishly warm for November. Have a great time!

  5. You are visiting one of the very best regions to experience autumn, and in fact, any season. The countryside around the south east side of Canandaigua Lake, down near Naples, is also spectacular…and don’t forget the New York State Wine and Culinery Center in Canandaigua for a good meal and a tasting, if you can fit it in. This all makes me homesick now…Have a great weekend teaching!

  6. I’m absolutely in love with the color red this fall, so the red motheye just shouts “knit me!” But the pattern itself is really lovely and I look forward to making one.

  7. I love this pattern. Anne, you rock with your patterns ~ they are absolutely lovely!
Hope you can cozy up this winter and knit to your hearts content! I’m off to buy the pattern now! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  8. Wonderful photo shoot. A gorgeous pattern. Thanks for another great pattern. I love all of your patterns, I just need to knit more of them!

  9. Anne…you captured PERFECTLY our sensibilities this time of year when you spoke of the “quietude and expectancy of the descent of winter…” this is why this is my VERY favorite time of year…sit…knit…crochet…quilt…the mayhem of summer and the garden has ended…we now have “permission” to just BE…quietly, serenely, resting up for the next seasons…! We take a good bit of ribbing about our weather here in the Finger Lakes area, but we “natives” wouldn’t trade it for the world…! I am happy that you like our very special place on the planet……..come back anytime…!!!

  10. The rosewood is gorgeous. If you’re still in the Watkins area, make sure you stop in at Mr. Chicken and pick up a dinner to go with your wine. They have the best roast chicken I have ever had! I only get up that way once a year, and it’s the first place I stop!

  11. gorgeous models! and i love the way that rosewood colorway glows against the dampness and muted tones of late fall in western new york – it gives the photos such a romantic, organic edge. hope you had a great time in my ol’ neck of the woods 🙂

  12. Very nice Anne!! So glad I bought some ‘extra’ Nona at Rhinebeck!!! Gosh. . . I’m so smart that way (wink wink), to think ahead to future Knitspot projects!

  13. Very nice pattern. So wonderful that you had a fun time with your friends and that they made such great models for your new release.

Just my personal opinion, but I think I like the Rosewood best on Laura and the Frosted Kiwi best on Cookie. Isn’t it great to have so many fabulous yarns and colors so that we all can have something to enhance our unique beauty?

    Hope you’re enjoying KRR.

  14. beautiful. and those two have another calling, definitely fabulous, natural, great looking modeling, with a keen photographers eye. I wish I could make that, but it is out of my league…. (optimistically) someday!

  15. Saw the photos and thought, ‘that looks like home’ – and it IS home: our house is perched above Seneca Lake with vineyards uphill, grey cold waters downhill, and the last of the fall colors between. Quite a shock to suddenly see such familiar countryside on the KnitSpot blog! Hope you enjoyed your visit to the Finger Lakes!
