now you’re gonna make me cry . . .

unbelievable.

that’s what YOU are. i’m so filled with emotion right now i have that funny choked feeling in my throat (it’s rare—go ahead and revel in the fact that you are causing it).

as of 10 pm this evening, you have told me that you gave over $2500 to claudia’s ride for MS, and that doesn’t count the undisclosed contributions. we are on fire, baby.
many, MANY of these contribution are new, from people who did not know about the bike ride til they read it here, which makes me beam.

(i keep having to suddenly wave my hands in a silly way in front of my eyes to stop myself from
tearing up.)

it’s only been 48 hours folks, and i KNOW i am gonna run outta money—probably by tomorrow.
yep—you have cost me $384 in two days. GOOD FOR YOU—great job! really, keep it up.
(and check out all the great additions to the prize list! warning—MAJOR prØn over there . . .)

i’ve been so busy answering emails that i couldn’t even post about it til now. i’m overwhelmed and touched beyond touched.

we still have a way to go, but it looks like i’m going to have to start asking for backups.
hmmm . . . this might be a good time to email my brothers . . .

for anyone coming late to the party, please go here to find out what the heck i’m talking about and get yourself in on the fun.

but i still managed to get some knitting in. yesterday morning i was up early, so i put my feet up, plugged in a book (the thin place) and had myself a nice five-hour knit on the bee shawl. no one else around, just me and the bee.

the bee, she eez growing . . . yes, suddenly it is a lap-filling, big project. i am SO happy. i am almost ready now to begin the third section—the bee-and-waving-grass part. i’m almost halfway through the yarn. the suspense is killing me now.

will the sections be well-proportioned? they are coming together magically in terms of numbers—i have not have to do any fancy wrangling to make each new section fit in with the previous one. that is either due to good planning, or i am in for a doozy of a fall very near then end.

but i’m really feeling the flow with this piece, so i think that maybe a lot of planning made the construction go smoothly. still, i did leave it up to serendipity and eyeballing what size to make the second section, and it turns out it will be just the right size, after two repeats of the chart, to start the third section. phew, i needed that.

last night while watching the second-to-the-last sopranos episode and some other TV, i dragged out our friend to continue work that i started a couple or three weeks back (ok, maybe it was more like five; i lost count)

(sorry for the blurry picture—i think it was drunk from so much sudden attention after so long)

i thought i was a lot further on this sock the last time i had it out—seriously, i could swear i was past the heel. do socks ever rip themselves back just to get attention?? i almost believe this . . except i have a hard time picturing this diva putting itself back on the needles so neatly. hmmm.

i brought it to class today where everyone fawned over it; we had a few new knitters there, so it was in its element. geesh.

we did have a lttle bonding time and cooked up a fun idea for an additional prize for the MS fundraiser

i also got that sewn bindoff done on teosinte2, and that pair is now lounging on the sock shelf in my closet, ready to be gifted sometime later this year.

sooo, i was just talking the other day about planning a new pair of socks or two, when SHA-zaam!—opportunity knocks.

a few months ago valerie, from yarn 4 socks, contacted me about designing something for their sock club. what they do is pair a designer with a dyer, and we work together to create a colorway/design combo for a sock kit which will be featured in the club for one month.

i was paired with meg from twisted. we emailed and traded ideas, and today i got these samples in the mail so i could start swatching and stuff. our sock will be autumn club offerings.

isn’t it luscious/ it’s a nice weight of yarn—i can’t wait to get started. based on our plans, i have a good idea of what i want to do—i’m just hoping that works out. more later. valerie says i can talk about this on my blog, but not reveal the project in its entirety, so, this one will make only brief, partial appearances (another diva—oy!).

  1. I can’t wait for the bee to be completed. It’s beautiful already – even in the lace blob state 🙂

And, my gosh, that yarn (shakes head; wipes away drool). Did you come up with that rich color combination? Brilliant!

  2. You’re the unbelievable one! And you’ll make *me* cry… but at the same time, you’re once again just too funny! “Do socks ever rip themselves back just to get attention?”, yeah, that’s another good one! 😀

  3. Wow, fantastic news about the fundraiser! I can’t wait to see how far it goes.

Loving the bees, and the new yarn is wow. I love the colors! I suppose you won’t be able to share the progress on that one with us, though.

  4. That is great news about the fund raiser.

The bumble bee shawl is so pretty. It seems to be buzzing right along 😉

That sock yarn is lovely. I can’t wait to see what you 2 have cooked up. Hopefully you can share it with us after the club packages are sent out.

  5. Glad the little push you gave everyone has had such a big result. The bee is looking like a queen bee she is beautiful! Can’t wait to see the new socks! Have fun creating them.

  6. Just saw the extra prizes! so Yummy, such luscious colours! Lucky us! Thank you.

  7. Yay for Scummy! The bee shawl is looking great–will it block out a lot for a lacy look, or a little for a warm and comfortable look?

  8. $2500 what a great start! Woo hoo! And you know what really happens with those socks on the needles? They actually don’t rip themselves out for attention. They go seek attention elsewhere — a rendez-vous in a top secret location with the socks that disappeared from the dryer. The disappeared socks undress the socks on the needles and before you know it you’ve lost a good 30 rows or more! The indecency of it all! Wishing you 5 hrs of uninterrupted knitting time again very soon.

  9. Aren’t knitters the best group of people? It’s not just that, Anne, it’s because of you, too, that everyone opened their hearts. Not to mention, it’s such a great cause. The yarn shawl is making me feel faint, i’t so gorgeous. I can’t wait. . . .

  10. the bee is getting so big! I can’t wait to see it blocked when it is done – I love the before and after of lace knitting!

i do think socks rip themselves to get more knitting time – they are so selfish!!!!!

yarn4socks is actually really local for me – they used to have a B&M shop that I would go to in town, now they are all on-line. It’s a great shop though!

  11. I am so jazzed with the way that pattern is coming out – you can sort of see the buzzzzz of the hive and the busy-ness (or is that beezy-ness – heh) right there in the pattern.

And those fall socks – oof – will be wonderful!

  12. That shawl continues to amaze me! I want it. You know, that unreasonable, selfish, gonna-have-a-tantrum-if-I-don’t-get-it sort of want that three year olds have mastered and the rest of us are not supposed to act on? I want it. I can’t wait until the pattern is available (hint, hint).

  13. We are so awesome!
Be sure to tell Stephanie/the Yarn Harlot about this. She’ll add it to the list of the amazing things we knitters do as a group that she talks about in her current book talk.
I’m proud to be one of the knitters who give so much!
    woot!

  14. Good old Tree Scum, I’m glad it got some love. 🙂 I have a special fondness for this pair… I think I will be a little sad when it’s completed and doesn’t get any more blog time. 😉

Bee looks so promising… it’s getting nice and big! 🙂 Have you got an edging pattern in mind yet? You’ll be needing it before long! 😉

Meg’s yarn is fabulous. Wow. I’ve got to check her shop out.

  15. The bee she is buzzing for sure!! Wow, you deserve to feel choked up(in a good way of course lol.) More diva socks, oh no!

  16. I can’t wait to see that shawl blocked out. I can tell, it’ll be bee-youtiful ^_^ I know, I know, bad pun. Seriously though, it’s an amazing feeling being a part of 2500 dollars, raised through online community. Goes to show those techno-phobes don’t know anything 😛 Here’s hoping we raise 2500 more, in short order! Pony up for the good cause, folks 😀

  17. No clever comments other than love the shawl, can’t wait for the pattern to appear…Wendy in SC

  18. OK, $2500? Knitters are the bomb.
The Bee Shawl is gorgeous. I LOVE the texture! I don’t see bees, though.
Wow, when it’s blurry, the tree scum sock looks like actual tree scum.

  19. HI!

You know what, your bee shawl is pr0n and has sent me into serious throes of covetous ecstasy. I LOVE the colour.
I don’t even wear shawls but I want to knit myself one just like it!

In fact, after seeing Cara’s post about her Wing o’ the Moth I want to make that too! You’re such a talented knitter/designer. 🙂

  20. Oooh, I’m so excited you’re doing a pattern for the Y4S club! I’m looking forward to seeing what you do to that self-striping yarn when I get whatever’s month package it’ll be in.
