today i am blocking the first half of cluaranach. go on . . . touch it.

all set now for a full photo shoot to be done when i get back.
the yarn is lanas puras fingering weight and kits are available for ore-order at one planet yarns and fibers. the pattern will also be available as a standalone item in my pattern shop.

ooops, sorry, i know you are waiting, all hot and bothered. hang on i’ll getcha a few more pictures.

it is a very dark, dreary day. and as luck would have it, the light is finally, FINALLY perfect for photographing the color of this yarn. who knew?

this was extremely easy to block . . the yarn doesn’t grow all that much; turns out i probably did not need that extra repeat but it’s only a few inches so it’s ok.

i can’t believe how many times i’ve taken that one repeat out of the pattern and pout it back . . and now i’m taking it out again. just goes to show that it ain’t over til the thing is spread-eagled on the floor.

the edges are Sooo cushy. mmm. garter stitch was just the right pick for this yarn. where else can you get some of this?

pattern will go on sale when i get back next week and kits you can preorder any time. i’m hoping to finish the second half between now and then (heh. yeah, i didn’t quite get it done to wear on my trip).

  1. thank you for bringing such beauty to my day! you continually inspire me with your gorgeous work and your yummy yummy meals.

  2. Thanks a lot!!! I resisted yesterday, but yielded to temptation today. I will soon own my own kit. Just what I need is more yarn….

  3. I have to stop reading your blog. I think it’s hazardous to my health. My breath gets caught in my throat, and my heart stops for a moment, so often when I’m reading your blog. I love the little soldiers. Wow.

  4. i’m away from the internet for a week (work related deadlines) and i come back to all this loveliness? if it’s not bad enough that during moments of overtime-induced delusions i could only think of knit lace, i have to stop by and see this! so lovely. so gorgeous. must. knit. lace.

  5. I stopped and took some heart pills so I could finish. It’s glorious! Dramatic and delicate at the same time! I love the design, the color, and of course, the execution!

  6. I Love it! Gorgeous, beautiful, spectacular! I even like the garter stitch and I am not a big fan of garter. I want a kit! Maybe for Christmas. I don’t really want to substitute yarn this time.

  7. Gorgeous!! So – it’s in 2 pieces and you graft them together? Sorry – I’m a lace novice. Would it not look right to knit it all in one piece? Please – you experts out there cut me some slack – LOL!! {turning red because bee shawl yarn still not even a cake yet}

  8. ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL PATTERN -can’t wait to buy it – loved knitting your bee stole – did it in jamieson shetland autumn colour ‘SHETLAND BEES’ [ JUMPER WT]- YOU ARE VERY INSPIRING
    PAT

  9. Oh, Anne, it’s so lovely. The full shot makes me think of the beautiful golden screens you see in very old churches. These thistles have turned into a religious experience! (We’ve gone from yarn pr0n to the yarn god — or goddess in this case.)
I’ve changed my mind and am going to Rhinebeck on Saturday — I’ll keep an eye out for you.

  10. I’ve been a lurker for a while, and just wanted to pipe in and say that I love your designs – this is no exception. Absolutely beautiful! I caved on a kit. 🙂

  11. Oh man, you’re going to make us wait a WHOLE WEEK for the pattern! (May have to make the kit
[another] Christmas gift to myself.) Seriously, have a great time at Rhinebeck, and bring back photos!

  12. Oh my, It is good I read this post here cause I better hide this one from my sister, if she will see it I will be summoned! This Scottish is looking so yummy!

  13. Beautiful, I can’t wait for the pattern. I am planning spinning the yarn for it already, a cashmere blend I think…I’ll just have to decide what exact mix. Yum Yum 🙂

  14. It’s beautiful, as always. Thanks for the p0rn shots. Hot & bothered beats cold & unsatisfied any day. 😉

  15. I have to say, I think you have a mean streak :)…I’ve resisted ever since I got the One Planet newsletter, but with these pictures…I just went over and bought the kit. I think you are bad for my budget…not that I’m going to stop reading, I’m just saying. Have fun at Rheinbeck!

  16. Anne, you have done it again. I don’t go for angular, geometric, repeating patterns. I swear, I don’t. I don’t fall in love with stoles named something like “Cathedral Windows.” Not that yours is, but it COULD be.

But MAN, that edging has some body to it.

  17. Lovely to look at
    Delightful to hold
    Put it on line
    And mark it SOLD!

(I’m running out of ways to say, “lovely work.” How do you manage to produce so prodigiously and still post intelligently every day? Do you have knitmaker’s elves?)

    Blessings!

  18. OMG, Anne, I come back from vacation and there is a whole new gorgeous kit ready for sale?… 😉 And I wasn’t even gone for very long! 😉

p.s. I really love this one… so simple, so elegant.

  19. Hmm, I think I can see a scarf-size version of this in the lavender qiviut I got at Stitches! The softness, the beautiful stitch pattern, it’s not too much is it? 🙂

  20. It’s perfect. Really and truly perfect. And it makes absolute sense that it would photograph better on a cold gray day — it’s Celtic after all! Thistles always show up best on the gray days 🙂 I need this kit. NOW.

Have a great time at Rhinebeck!

  21. so far I only have the first foot or so done of Morning Glory, and I have the Bee pattern, but thankfully no yarn… I am Begging (on my knees I tell you) begging you to make more Hand Warmers… you know stuff I have a chance of finishing in a couple of weeks… I was looking at Casino, I can’t even believe myself, but I was… you’re killing me with the awesome wraps, that you seem to finish in no time and it takes me about 6 months… sheesh lady, I’m just saying 🙂

  22. Oh, stunning. I’m making your Honeybee Stole right now, and it’s true love. Thank you for making such wonderful things!

  23. It is truly fabulous, as a scot I HAVE to have this pattern. Any chance you can tell us yarn amounts before the pattern comes out, for yarn shopping in advance. Enjoy Rhinebeck.

  24. No later than this morning, I was telling Eric that I need a stole to keep warm when it gets a bit chilly at home or in the office… and Cluaranach looks like it might be just the thing!
