the yarn arrived from chris today and it’s perfect . . . someone is gettin’ a ni-i-i-ice christmas gift.
this is a new fiber that chris will be offering soonβ€”a DK/light worsted which she calls charity. it’s 100 percent corriedale so it’s similar to abundance, the chunky weight yarn i used for the totally autumn throw. i can’t WAIT to test-drive it; tonight’s the night.

it will appear on her site as soon as she can dye it.

i wouldn’t blame anyone who has huge doubts at this point about whether i can pull off this sweater by christmas. let me just throw this out there though (and i have witnesses): two years ago i ended up finishing all my christmas knitting with six days to spare, so i started a sweater for david. crazy, right? it was wrapped and under the tree on christmas eve morning.

now, i’m not telling you that sweater story just to brag (although i admit to being proud of that one), but to put an impression into your head while you read this cryptic message i received in email yesterday.

1,2,3,4 I declare a KNITTING WAR…………………………..YOU have been chosen…should you choose to accept this mission, you will receive your orders soon….via your blog….your war will be against another yet fun and famous knitter.

What are the details you say…..to see who can finish ALL Christmas knitting before Christmas……the reward for winning this war you ask……a donation of $5 per winners project to afore mentioned charity of their choice…….anyone wishing to join in must sign in to whomever’s blog they represent by stating “I’M IN” this means they too will meet with every finished project $5 to the charity of winners choice. The secret agents at hand will be keeping track of whose who. I cannot tell you who these 3 people are….well, I could, but then I would have to take all your stash so mumms the word ‘eh.

So strong warrior……………..do you choose or not!!!!

P.S. If you accept you must post this exact email on your blog with my name blurred out please:) Your instructions will follow with your answer…..we’re waiting…………….

THIS IS NOT A PLEA FOR MONEYβ€”it’s for our entertainment
(or maybe just yours, i’m not sure . . .). apparently a small panel of benefactors has chosen to pit me against someone else in a christmas knitting war (i am ignoring the famous part because the thought of who that could be makes my knees shake).
the way i understand it is that for every christmas gift i finish they will give $5 to my favorite organization. i’m SURE we will be getting more details soon . . right??

now, i have no idea who they are, or who my opponent is, but $5 per item i DO get.
so i ACCEPT.

all you have to do is buoy me up when my energy gets low i think. after all, i have a lot less time than i did two years ago (but i SO want it).

i thought i was doing pretty well on the gift knitting already, but now that they said race, i might have to turn up the heat on it.

while i have been working away on christmas knitting i have no new FOs today because i am skipping from one thing to another (also back to work on design projects).

i was able to score the last ball of cascade 220 superwash in my due lot from the yarn shop

so i can finish up the waffle hat (pattern for the twosome coming very soon; i know some of you want it ASAP). i didn’t waste any time being out of yarn for that; i just got started on the plain james hat, for which i am using my own snug cap for all sizes pattern.

who doesn’t love mission falls 1824 superwash? so i didn’t finish one hat as planned but i have two half-hats done. mmm, and these wonderful, red cushy socks are off the needles and ready to go into someone’s stocking. i just wish it was mine, but alas, they wouldn’t fit me.

then monday came and it was time to get back to classes and to work on design projects again. i worked on oh! canada most of the evening and got through about half of the second side (woo-hoo). i kinda ignored it most of the weekend so i had some catching up to do.

i’ve had the pattern memorized for some time so it’s possible to really sail along on it. i would love to finish this in the next couple of days and get it blocked. although, the christmas tree is now standing in the middle of my blocking area . . . a minor detail.

i felt good enough by the end of the evening about what i got done on that to take the second bee sock upstairs for my late-night knitting. we watched a chilean comedy and i got a
good start on it . . that is, i got through the most fiddly parts and the rest should be smooth (and speedy) sailing.

these are destined for another person’s stocking for the holiday, and i think there will be no problem getting them finished (CHA-ching).

tomorrow we will have the lovely marie antoinette pattern for release and hopefully, we will make it a double header with the waffle mitts and hat pattern as well. see you then . . . gotta go knit.

  1. The cheering section north of the Golden Gate is revving up to help keep you energized.

I hope your support unit is well prepared with all the necessary pampering goodies you will need to stay on top of your game.

    Good Luck and how fun!

  2. Charity-giving! Great idea. You’d better check for lead in your yarn from China. Unfortunately, that’s not even funny, huh?

  3. If anybody can do it — you can. I would dearly love to know how you manage to bend time to get all your stuff done. πŸ˜€

  4. Of course you accept the challenge, and of course you can win! No one I know knits as fast as you. I love the cranberry yarn, I can’t wait to see that finished. Will be buying Marie Antoinette tomorrow, I am counting down. A bit of a tree in your blocking area, you’ll figure it out. Off you go, knit like the wind!

  5. If anyone can do it, Anne it is you. I am cheering you on from the sidelines, but I am tired for you too! You are ambitious for sure!

  6. I SO wouldn’t bet against you! You are the most prolific knitter I know. You’ll wipe the floor with’em!

Meanwhile I’ve been trying to achieve closure on my Sedona vest for two days now. Is there a prize for LEAST forward progress made?

    Blessings!

  7. Um, I’ve had my shopping done since Thanksgiving (result of working in retail for several years) so I have no Christmas knitting to do, but PLEASE do write up Mr Postman’s pattern – I’d love to make gloves like that!!!

    Good luck to everyone!

  8. Woohoo! You can do it! I can’t believe how fast you churn out knits. You’ll have your list done and time to spare! (And with that gorgeous cranberry yarn, how could you not spend every spare moment making a sweater??)

  9. All these people who actually do Christmas knitting. Sheesh. The cranberry is the best color ever. By the way, what Chilean comedy? My son lived in Chile for a couple of years and I bet he would like it.

  10. Go! Go! Go! And don’t stop to write every single one of us back as I suspect is your habit. Use that time knitting instead and beat the SOCKS off the “famous” knitter your fearsome needles and flying fingers are pitted against!

  11. Wow! you are sooooo busy and quick. I don’t know how you do it but i think that it is amazing! Good luck on the race. I will be cheering from the sidelines.

  12. Anne, I was a cheerleader in college. If you need me to come to the shop with yarn pon pom’s I will!
But, truly, we all KNOW you can exceed your goals.

    Come on Anne,
    don’t just sit
    grab your yarn
    and knit, knit,knit!

    Gooooooooo, ANNE!

  13. -OR-

    SSk to the left
    K2T to the right
    click those needles
    through the night!
    YeAAAAAAAA, ANNE!

  14. *doin’ the Kucaracha dance” go Anne, go Anne, go Anne……….get yer knit on, you can do it, you can knit it………..better shut me up now cuz TRUST me, I can go on and on and on…..

  15. Dang, your sweetie sure is spoiled! Does he know that? I’m drooling over that cranberry corriedale.

I fully believe that you can win this knitting war. Just look at all the progress you’ve made lately. Do you sleep?

  16. That sweater is going to be gorgeous!! You always make me want to buy yarn that’s slightly out of an unemployed college student’s budget:)
Good luck-I’m totally cheering for you. Besides, I’ve started to get the suspicion that you’ve got extra pairs of arms, like those ancient godesses. One pair for socks, one for lace, one for sweaters??
Oh, and which charity is it, I’m curious?
