same post, different knits?

hopefully i’m not that boring. sometimes though, an item bears repeating, especially when dished up in a different, but equally amazing colorway in the same yarn. this one is for all those who see water and wind patterns in the new stole project.

kim’s yarn is just awesome; i’m not sure this summer green is in her store yet but hopefully it will be soon.
we will release the new stole pattern on wednesday i think and provide lots more information about the yarn and pattern details.

this is vanessa’s petite-sized stole; a little narrower than mine, and dainty as a doily.
her join is a whirlpool rather than a flower, and we like it just as much—look at those amazing swirls of light and dark color.

the edges look like lapping waves or big green summer leaves dangling heavy from their own weight to form a natural umbrella

i have to admit that seeing it all laid out and letting my eye wander along the bends and breaks of the flowing color even made me soften a bit toward a much-hated decorative element in my living room.

on any other day, it cannot be stressed enough how much this paper reminds me of a certain famous painting (and not in a good way).

a-a-a-aah-aaah!
it’s the kind of paper that turns a potentially light-drenched room into a dungeon, and has been the bane of my knitting eyesight since we moved here.
but today, i can appreciate it more (although believe me, it IS slated to go at some point).

i promised myself that once my stole was off the needles i would certainly start my sweater project, and i have

this is the center back of ribbing after class this morning, and now i’ve gotten into the body section, so it’s moving along. more on this project tomorrow.

i’ve made a little progress on lace sock #2

and i need to get that pattern written, hopefully tomorrow.
yesterday in the car i started a somewhat-plain sock for david . . .

it’s kind of a grandpa sock actually—his favorite kind. i love it; the creamy handspun wool along with the variegated black and white is a classic i think.

ok, then, i had a full day of classes, blocking, and email, so i’m ready to move on to a full evening of knitting. i’ll be back.

  1. Such an interesting pattern! Both stoles are as lovely as can be. I’m anxious for you to publish the pattern. Th colorplay of the varigated wool real draws my eye…I can hardly wait!!

  2. The shawl actually makes the wallpaper work – with a whisper! Very pretty. The sweater yarn is gorgeous, even it will work in the wallpapered room, and be something quite special everywhere else. David’s sock is such a classic but done with a beautiful, natural, honest yarn. Another inspiring post!

  3. ooooooh.
It’s even lovelier in this colorway!
Now… I’m a purple gal from way back, and that deep gray/purple color you had going yesterday was right up my alley… but this color… in this shawl…. exquisite.
(Now… STOP>>> you’re keeping my queue hopelessly out of balance. I cannot be an all Anne all the time kind of knitter. ….
    can I?)

  4. I think all the dark purple/black colors I’ve been seeing on your blog are contagious. It seems like that’s all I’ve been buying and knitting with lately. I love the shawl.

  5. ok, so i see here that i’m a bit impatient on the yarn question…

but another gorgeous stole. if yours is fall, this is summer. i love the start of your sweater, too – or…maybe just the yarn! although…those little cables are really tempting…must not start another sweater…yet…

  6. Mmm….the green stole is quite nice too! I have to laugh at your analogy of your wall paper. I never would have noticed the scream faces…but now I see them..haha!!!!

  7. The purple tones are beautiful, and I’m loving the way my Brambler is shaping up in the Opulence Arabian Nights colorway…but that green is beyond exquisite. The color plus the leafy pattern = something one of Tolkien’s Elves might wear, to blend in with the forest.

  8. I really like the uniqueness of this stole. It’s an unusual stitch pattern, and very much to my taste.

I’ve been meaning to ask you: what kind of a cast on have you used on the lace socks and David’s socks? Can’t quite figure it out, but it doesn’t look like any of the ones I’ve used.

  9. I wouldn’t have thought changing the color would make such a difference in the finished stole; they are both lovely! I’m afraid I’m coveting the yarn you are using for your sweater, too. I love the comforting, sturdy look of David’s sock (it’s finally cooled off enough here to wear socks again, and that yarn looks just right).

  10. gahhhh! not being able to buy the yarn for this stole *right now* is rather painful considering that i’ll be back in the states for a little while soon and i could avoid international shipping. oh the pain of anticipation. 😉

  11. The green lacy stole is So very beautiful and interesting. Could not take my eyes off the picture. It is art for sure!

  12. It’s going to be hard to wait until this pattern can be done in this yarn (hope it’s not too expensive!).
I think the green is amazingly beautiful. And I love the sweater yarn as well. After a summer of lace, I must get my sweater done, started in the late winter and put aside. I’ll only wear it in Nov. Dec., and Jan. here in Louisiana…

  13. Wow, I thought it would be hard to beat the lilac color, but the turquoise color is breathtaking!! What a fantastic pattern, it looks difficult. Perhaps the screaming wallpaper WAS your inspiration, surreptitiously???

    Gorgeouse as usual!!

  14. So much stunning knitting I don’t know where to begin. I know it sounds crazy, but I am just in love with that classic sock for David. The colors are so clean and beautiful (in a manly way of course hehe)

  15. You’re the most amazing knitter, designer, producer!! I’m always amazed at how much you can accomplish in a day. Unbelievable. The shawls are just stunning-yep, whirling dervishes for sure. I love both socks, as well. Will we get a sweater pattern? Please!! I’ve wanted one from you forever!!

  16. So, Anne, when is the pattern for the shawl going to be available….fortunately, I bought the yarn a few weeks ago (it is a colorway I had been coveting, and then I saw the shawl in it and decided I HAD TO HAVE IT).

    As usual, another beauty.

  17. Anne- Any collaboration between yourself and Kim has got to be magic.

I’ll just add it to the queue, shall I?

(Munch’s “Scream” gives me the willies!)

  18. Lovely knitting! What yarn is becoming the sweater? And from the looks of it so far, I too hope to see a sweater pattern emerge eventually.

My sympathies on the wall paper. I did tell you how we just covered the icky wall paper up with batting and $1/yard sale solid color polyester fabric right? That turned out to be cheaper even than re-painting would have been. Let alone fixing all the cracked plaster that would have had to be done before we could paint. Pretty fast too…

  19. I love everything 🙂 I can’t wait for the patterns to show up!!! I’m hoping that you can incorporate your “red” sweater sometime in your pattern collection???? (I hope, I hope)

  20. I am at work and had a look at your blog. The stole is a great colour, I think it is going to be difficult to choose. I must say, it is already Wednesday here, I got excited then realised, it won’t be Wednesday there for a while. Oh well, I will just have to wait.

  21. Girl, you are a wonder-worker. That stole looked like… well, it was not attractive (except for the colors) before blocking but now it’s gorgeous!! I love the main stitch pattern, it kind of reminds me of a flock of quails.

  22. Wow, that’s uncanny. It’s like someone actually SET OUT to interpret “The Scream” in the medium of wallpaper…talk about loud decor.
