it’s been a quiet blog these last few days, and not all that much knitting going on either . . .
i have a backlog of patterns to write and it was time i got started. a few of them are out of the gate now (and still i have a pile to do), but i think it’s ok to take a break and pop in to write a post.
it’s just a little glimpse, but i think the newest transition in the autumn arbor project is a success. it’s more organic than some other transitions ive designed . . . there’s no hard line of delineation, but it’s more natural-looking. if you are familiar with the gnarled oakwoods stole pattern, it has a similar construction. the idea is that the next section literally “grows” out of the previous one like viney tendrils. the back panel will remain in the large leaf pattern to the neck.
now, if only i had a good long block of time to sit and knit on it. sigh.
i have a small secret project i’m designing that is kinda busting my chops at the moment. it’s small, and i have a picture in my mind of what i want it to be, but i’m not coming up with a good plan for some reason (maybe just plain distraction).
i’m scheduled for a faceoff with it tonight and i must be victorious.
thank goodness for hoarfrost. the second one, in dye dreams twinkle toes, is off the needles and drying as we speak. the pattern is done and waiting for a nice photo; we’ll be ready to release it early next week, yay.
and one more is ready to pop off any minute
love it in this fuzzy pastel blend—the yarn is the lovely schaefer judith—very nice.
and omg—look what arrived in the mail today from evelyn at knitty noddy
two skeins of her soon-to-be available cambyx yarn, a special tussah silk/camel blend from fleece artist.
the colorway is hemlock—guess what it’s going to be?
remember the little shawl i knit for my friend kris? we are going to work up a sample in this stunningly rich and special yarn which evelyn will offer as a kit later this month.
i love the yarn—it feels almost identical to the yarn kris gave me for the original piece (we’re not completely sure what that was). the pattern is all written and ready for me to test; as soon as i wrestle my secret project it into submission, this little shawl is going on the needles.
so, i’m off to deal with my demons.

Hi Anne,
I can’t wait until you have the shawl pattern Autumn Arbor up for sale. I love it.
i love the neckwarmer! i never really thought of knitting a neckwarmer before, but i’ve been having knitting ADD lately and have been noticing that scarves are awfully… long. and repetitive. and that cambyx yarn is gorgeous; but i’m a sucker for blues and greens.
in the “website” line you’ll notice that i’ve got a brand-spanking new knitting blog! i’m still in the process of figuring out exactly what it will be and not be, but i’m having fun right now telling the stories of FOs from ages past, in the dark time when i barely knew how to cast on and bind off.
that yarn is absolutely LOVELY!!!
That Fleece Artist is spectacular. Can hardly wait to watch it becoming.
(yes, my email’s changed…)
oooh gorgeous fleeece artist. i wonder if the new yarn is similar to the hand maiden camel spin which is my all time favorite yarn.
and by the way, the socks are fab. you make me wish i were a sock knitter, as the patterns are just fab. translate into shawl/scarf???
Good luck with those demons! Everything is looking amazing; once it all falls into line, it’s going to feel great 🙂
Mmm I’m thinking I should have ordered that new england red color, I got a few others instead, but everytime I see this shawl I want it!
I’m LOVING the Autumn pattern….it’s truly beautiful!
Oh droolworthy doesn’t really cover it…
So much to do and not enough time to do it in. I so understand that. I swear that there should be 40 hours in a day. LOL
I heart all things Fleece Artist. Can’t wait to see it knit up!
The second Hoarfrost neckwarmer turned out great too. Its lines seem a bit softer than the first one; it looks really cosy!
