this is the jacket i’ll keep near the door this fall to grab over and over again on my way out the door. a comfortable, tweedy leisure jacket (that truly deserves the name) to knock around in with jeans or to wear as a change-up from a suit jacket with “nice” trousers. not too heavy, but still, the fabric has a great density that keeps its shape no matter what you’re up to in it. you don’t have to tell a soul what an easy knit it is.
and in a few days, we’ll bring you the guy version . . .
shown here, size small in briar rose fourth of july, a smooth, light worsted 4-ply yarn in colorway, 8000; black cherries.
the gorgeous glass buttons for this jacket were purchased from moving mud—i sent them a swatch and they created just the right thing for the fabric. how awesome is that?

yet again, this project is made possible by the generosity of chris at briar rose. and now she has a new website—always worth a look!
thank you so much ronni for gracing this pattern with your technical skill and good advice. ronni’s been moving for a couple of weeks now but thankfully, still finding time to do some work with me.
thanks also to tana, our wonderful tech editor, whose placid nature never fails to be infectious.
my very good friend anne marie performed a heroic test knit in just a couple of weeks (and it’s gorgeous, to boot)—you can see her jackie sweater in the briar rose booth at sock summit!
and of course, david gets a big round of applause for a great photo shoot.

Anne you’ve out done yourself!!! I can’t wait to start.
it looks fabulous finished….and don’t you look like the satisfied little minx!
Anne, this is absolutely gorgeous. And what a beautiful colour yarn as well.
Wow! The jacket is just fantastic!! What a beautiful tailored look it has. It fits you like a glove!
I LOVE it — it will be perfect for our southern winters — yes it gets cold down here in Dec, Jan, Feb and we don’t have the good heating to deal with it.
Anne, that is fantastic! The fit is wonderful and so flattering. I imagine you will wear it a lot this fall.
Great looking jacket, Anne, Your design is simple and classic and Chris’ yarns are perfect for this weight of project. The buttons are excellent. I learned with sewing that good accessories and trim can take a piece up another level. This would make a really good kit, complete with yarn and buttons. this should be a popular item!
Gosh that’s a cool jacket. I remember when we first met in Blogland, you were modelling this amazing skirt – on a bicycle, was it?
Ooh, how beautiful! I look forward to the guy’s version.
This is really fabulous! It’s awesome. I want to make it for me, me! I never make anything for me. Time to start, I’d say!
That is a very attractive sweater. It may be in my future.
Really gorgeous. I don’t usually like knitted jackets, but that’s fabulous. Love it!
Anne—
We’ve barely had any summer here this year (although at long last I’m seeing squash blossoms and midget tomatoes) and yet your new jacket had me yearning for fall. 🙂
Kathleen
Can’t tell which is better – the model or the photographer?! That’s the sign of a great team I think!
If I knit this jacket, does it come with a guarantee that I will look as gorgeous in it as you do? Oh well, I guess there are no guarantees in life but I’m going to knit it anyways! It’s stunning! 🙂
I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this jacket! And, it helps that it is in a color that I often where.
That sweater is absolutely gorgeous on you. It just suits you in every way, color, style, fit!
Great jacket – and great photoshoot! I certainly hope it was not 86 degrees – which is what we have in Washington DC – if the temperature was even a little over 70, you are to be commended for looking so cool and sophisticated!
Stunning! I think I’ll make one for myself and one for my hubby.
Ok my dear friend, you truly have out done yourself and that is a jacket I MUST knit. It is a PERFECT barn jacket on those cold fall and spring mornings…gah…..how DO you do it??
I really likey!
Oh my! You’ve outdone yourself again! I love it.
The jacket looks great & so well shaped. You have done it again!
very pretty – i love the way the yarn works with the pattern.
Oh, yum! I love the shape of that jacket, and the color is fabulous — I can’t wait to see it! 🙂
Anne, this is absolutely lovely! The color is perfect and I love how it fits. Simply beautiful.
Wow! That is all….just “wow!”
It looks great! The knit fabric has a nice semi-drape, the stitch pattern is perfect for the degree of variegation in the yarn, and the half belt is a nice touch.
Wow, another great sweater design. If only my wips pile wasn’t so big already…
Excellent job incorporating tailoring, fit, and classic good looks into a knitted jacket!
Gorgeous!!! Love all the details, it’s really pretty!
Lovely jacket! It’s a wonderful classic design too. And the yarn is gorgeous- I knew right away it was Briar Rose. You two are like the Dynamic Duo of knitting.
Anne! This one is a winner!!!!
gush! so cute! and functional – love it!
Nice, nice!
Beautiful jacket – who says you can’t have tailored knitting?
Ooooo, again 🙂 Just beautiful!!!!!
Perfecto!!!
That jacket is just beautiful. Cannot wait to see the sample at Sock Summit!
What a wonderful piece. I can see it as an essential for fall. Very flattering.
Great and fun columns I see in the pictures.
Hehehe, that previous comment of “satisfied little minx” describes that last picture perfectly. It made me LOL at work.
Anne- A dear friend of mine gave me the heads up on this post, and she wants my opinion- it’s fabulous!
I love the tailored, almost military details that can be dressed up or down, and the color rocks!!
You and Chris are unstoppable!
Wow, another home run! I love fitted sweaters that are flattering but not too tight. Running off to buy yet another sweater pattern……
Wow! The jacket is gorgeous!
So classy– yet another winner! (and another one on my wish list…)
Wow! That is just the most perfect jacket. Really good looking. I’d love to make one for myself, one day, when the baby knitting and holiday knitting is done!
Great design–so professional and tailored. Once again your background comes through in your finished product. Loved the photo shoot too! 🙂
That is incredibly gorgeous – very, very beautiful!
I love the styling – the pockets, collar and color. David truly outdid himself but then again, he has such a lovely model!
Wow, that’s a really elegant jacket!
