hayrick sock

another easy-to-knit sock with a handsome texture that belies the simplicity of its pattern. a near-cabled look is achieved with absolutely no crossing of stitches; the bit of openwork that accents the motif would never be construed as “lace”, yet it results in a pleasingly breathable fabric, same as the frilly stuff. a completely portable project to knit in time for holiday gifting, this sock is a real man-pleaser (but oh-so-pretty in pinkβ€”just sayin’).

liz at mackintosh yarns, enthusiastically provided the yarn for this sock project and wants to share her terrific selection of yarns and fibers with all of us. thank you liz!

gail is on a test-knitting tear with her second pair of knitspot socks in a row; you can get a glimpse of her very-different take on them in her october 19th post. while you’re there, take a sec to wish her a happy BD (it was yesterday but birthdays last all week, right?

ok, let’s look some more at david modeling in his new socks.

  1. Oooh I get to be first! I think I left my comment under another post, meant to leave it here. I think these are the socks I’ve been waiting for so patiently. They’re beautiful and I have some lovely purple sock yarn that will do the pattern justice. Thanks so much!

  2. Hi Anne, I’ve posted the link to your blog to the Menwhoknit group on Ravelry – I’m sure there are some guys there who will want to knit the sock. Love the colour choice.

  3. Oooo, another great Knitspot sock design! And David makes a great sock model too. My DH is a bit picky when it comes to sock design. I’ll have to show him this one to see if he likes it. It would make sock knitting for him more interesting. :o)

  4. Anne- I absolutely LOVE the fall leaves in this photo shoot! It makes me want to knit these socks and then have a hayride, while drinking hot cider on a crisp fall night! Stunning, just beautiful eye candy, the location and the foot model.

These are the closest thing I’ve ever seen to “manlace” socks. I am off to buy the pattern and start a pair for my man.

  5. I am so far behind finishing (or even starting!!) the patterns I’ve bought from you so far, but this one is another winner. So I’ll be adding this to my project queue for sure! You’re a genius.

PS The new steps look very nice. I’m kind of in the landscape business so I noticed them in a previous post but didn’t get around to mentioning.

  6. Those socks are gorgeous… for sure…Mr. Piggy is getting a workout..for sure. πŸ™‚

  7. Wow! This pattern looks amazing. I think I’ll have to try out the yarn too. The safari color looks great amongst all the bright leaves.

  8. Wow!!! Yeah, very few words from me today. I was just wondering if I could post a photo of these on my blog and on my “customers projects” page. Of course it is completely up to you. =) That skein of Safari is soooo green! The ones lately are coming out soo brown! LoL, amazing how dyes react. =)

  9. Anne – great design, great color, great photography (as always). I couldn’t help but cringe (after enjoying the pictures) worrying that they might get ruined in the photo shoot. I’m sure they weren’t, but obviously the knitter in me was thinking about the number of hours put into the knitting of those gorgeous socks and hopping they weren’t harmed in the making of these photos. ; )

  10. Wonderful socks once again, Anne! I am putting those on the list after the Brickers for sure. You always make me stretch my ideas about yarn colors. Your patterns make me re=consider colors I might not normally be drawn to.

  11. Very handsome socks! I’m still swooning over the buttons for your green cardigan – so perfect. And I do need some of that mink yarn. Sigh.

  12. How fun – new hand-knit socks, gorgeous yarn, autumn leaves! I could just make tons of socks, but then I would never progress to getting good at making sweaters – still working on that…

I really like that heel – the type is not coming to me and I’m too lazy to look at my sock book.
