i love books. we have lots of them in our home.
a lifetime of studying knitting has led to owning lots of knitting books (and magazines and pattern leaflets . . . ah me).

my knitting library was largely acquired the old-fashioned way, by shopping in used bookstores and rifling through giveaway bins and trash boxes outside of used bookstores; there was a time when they couldn’t give old knitting books away. except to me, apparently—the geeky knitting person without a budget, who was always good for carting off unsellable books.
anyway . . . i was lucky to find lots of good (to me) things at cheap prices and able to feed my lifelong obsession with passion for stitch dictionaries this way

i guess if i had to say that just one thing was my muse, it would be stitch patterns.
stitch patterns are the reason i wanted to learn to knit and they continue to amuse, amaze, and inspire me. my stitch dictionaries are scattered all over the house, like most people would have magazines—coffee tables, desks, bookshelves, bedstands, the dinner table—wherever i might need one for reference (hey, you never know)

and in recent years, i’ve even managed to add brand new specimens to my collection. those i keep shelved, where they will stay in good shape. for me, they have aesthetic appeal displayed as a set.

this collection of beautiful stitch dictionaries from vogue knitting are an example; i like that they all match in size and shape. they are beautifully produced with good photos of well-knit swatches. i use them pretty frequently, but carefully—it’s sort of a “sunday best” set of dictionaries, which i “save for good” (go ahead, laugh; i would, if i were you).
i was recently pleased to see that a new volume was being added to this series, one that i have long thought they should add

so, when sixth&spring books asked if i’d be interested in receiving a copy of vogue knitting stitchionary 5, i was like, are you kidding?? knitspot readers will love this and my other three stitchionaries will have a new sibling, yay!!
(i didn’t say that last part to them; at least, i hope i didn’t . . .).

this new volume of lace stitches is equally well-produced with beautiful photos and layout. each stitch is represented with a chart AND written instructions, which i’m really grateful for. so, while most of the stitches appear (uncharted) in books i already own, having them charted is a big bonus for me and would tip the scales in favor of adding this book to my library if i had to buy it.

the layout and clarity of the material is also a big draw—each stitch has its own, clear space and the charts are generously sized. the book sits open on its own. i have one tiny criticism . . . some of the swatches were knit in a very dark blue colorway and unfortunately, those photographs do not show the patterns as well as the swatches in lighter yarn (it seems to be a matter of lighting, but i’m no pro). they are not terrible and were used pretty sparingly, though; most of the swatches throughout the book are very clearly descriptive.
even the ackowledgements page at the back has something to love

tana (our wizard tech editor) has participated in knitting for this production.

vogue knitting stitchionary 5 is a definite keeper for me; i know i’ll refer to it often.

now it’s time for it to join the rest of the stitchionary family—they have a lot to talk about.
now here’s the bonus for those of you who are staying home this weekend and will see this post: if you’d like to receive a copy of vogue knitting stitchionary 5 for your very own, sixth&spring books will send the book one lucky winner. leave a comment at the end of this post some time before 9 pm on sunday, may 30th. i’ll ask david to draw one name and announce the winner on monday morning as a little holiday gift.

Fantastic! The book looks incredible!
Have a great Memorial Day weekend!
Looks like a great book!
Looks beautiful! Happy Memorial Day!
I love the stitchionary books! Happy to hear there is now lace!
I too love stitch dictionaries. It’s great fun to noodle around with things on the needles. I should do it more often.
I’ve even got an old copy of James Norbury’s tome. http://www.librarything.com/author/norburyjames
Wonderful post and the dictionary really does look like high quality! I would love to win it.
It does look like a terrific book; I’d been thinking about buying it, but maybe . . . well, we’ll see.
What a beautiful book! And, as Sunday happens to be my birthday….I am going to keep my fingers crossed and make a wish as I blow out the birthday candle! (note..only one candle. I am old enough to demand only one.)
Oh, I’d love to have this book. If I’m not lucky enough to win, then I’ll add it to my wish list.
Oh, thank you so much for reviewing this book. I was looking at it on Amazon and wondering if it is good. I noticed you had some of the Japanese stitch dictionaries — I would be interested in reading a review by you of them. I’m interested in getting them and don’t know which one to start with!
I am just thinking of diving in to lace knitting, especially shawls. This would be a perfect reference for when I feel brave enough to try to create my own. The book looks amazing!
The book looks beautiful! My knitting books would love to have it as a sibling 🙂
I’ve been waiting for Vogue’s lace book as well! And I’ve always felt they needed to add charts to many of their stitchionaries … what a great giveaway!
Don’t put me in the drawing for the book, I live far too far away to ship to! Just wanted to wish you a happy Memorial Day weekend!
I’d love to try that book! It looks lovely. Thanks for sharing.
But where is Stitchionary #4?
I am envious of your library of stitch dictionaries. I need more!
What a lovely book, and just in time for summery, open and light knitting!
It is so surreal to see my name in print!! And the fact that you posted a photo of one of my swatches from the book!! Thank you! I am so glad that you like the book!! Happy Memorial Day Weekend!!
Lovely! I’ve been considering starting a stitch collection myself…would love this book!
thank you so much for reviewing this beautiful book. I am delighted to hear I am not the only one who rescues old knitting pattern books!
Oooh, keeping my fingers crossed for this one (although if I don’t win, I’ll eventually buy my own copy). 🙂
Wow, you do have quite a collection there. I have only been knitting for 6 months, but I’ve already got a nice book collection (nothing like yours, of course). I’d love to have this stitchinary also. I am lacking in stitch books!
Oh I would love to have this. I’m just starting to get into lace knitting.
Ooh, me want, me want!
I’ve been anxiously waiting for this book to be released! Its siblings at my house didn’t even know I was expectant!
I am envious of all of the stitch dictionaries…I only have one…and it’s not that helpful when I’m trying to find something…
I would love a copy of this book – it seems really well laid out. And thanks for posting pictures of your knitting library – they make mine seem small which is good because my knitting library was starting to feel large 🙂
Pick me! Pick me! Pick me!
That would be a great addition to my library, too…
I’d love to try that book!
I loved to see your knitting books/leaflets so organized. It’s inspiring – I must get around to doing the same with mine. And I would so love to win the lace stitch dictionary.
I would love, love, love a stitch dictionary. It looks amazing.
I’d love a copy of that book. It looks wonderful.
I would SO love that book! I don’t have any of the Vogue books. I may need to start looking for them on sale!
Throwing my scarf in the ring for this great book
You have such a cute set of shelves! I can understand your weakness for stitch dictionaries because I have the same problem. 🙂
I’d read you’re blog even if you didn’t give away lovely books!!!! Oooohh, David, pick me! 🙂
my library has an empty spot that book would fill beautifully! i have been looking at that book for awhile, and your review has convinced me that I NEED it! btw, love your designs and blog. keep up the good work!
I love the stitch dictionaries too 🙂 I’d love to get this new one as it’s focused on lace, my latest knitting obsession.
This love for knitting books sounds so familiar to me, especially collecting stitch dictionaries. A copy of this beautiful Vogue Stitchionary Edition will certainly feel at home between my other books.
And concerning your blog: it’s fun to read. Very recognizable, it makes me smile every time. So keep up the good work!
Kind greeting from the Netherlands. Have a nice weekend, Edith
Oh, how lovely! I love lace stitches.
I’d love a copy if they are willing to ship to England! I have a really old Vogue stitch dictionary that I got off Ebay and I pull it out whenever I want to make up some new socks!
Looks like a wonderful book. I promise to give it a very good home if I’m chosen!
Cheers,
Kim
I would love a coy of this book. I do not have any stitchionaries and I am not sure how to spell the word.
Jeanne
Oooh, nice. Vogue’s knitting books are so clean, calm, and competent about what they do.
i have the first one and really love it, just for learning what basic knits and purls do to a fabric. great learning tool!
Looks like a great book — I’d love to have a copy.
Do you know if this will be in stores soon? I have a few sweater’s worth of yarn that I’d like to use to create something all-over lace. Excited!
Toss my name in the hat please. I’d love a copy of this beautiful book to add to my collection.
Love your blog, your patterns, and your gardens! That’s some work! 🙂
I’ve had to put down my knitting for another passion, music/acting/performance, but would love to have this book to inspire me back to my fiber. I hope I get picked!
I would love to have that book join my library. Count me in! Thanks!
I love seeing all the pictures of your spaces, and I always love bookshelf pictures.
Lately, I’ve been searching for a stitch dictionary. This book looks great!
Ooooh! I have the Vogue Color Work Stitchionary, and I love it a lot. I’ve been craving a good lace stitch book, but for some reason the used book stores in my area don’t seem to have them… I’ll have to start looking for this one on the discount tables!
One can never have too many stitch dictionaries! Love the look of it – especially the charts!
I’d love a copy. Thanks for giving us a chance to win it. Have a great holiday weekend.
That looks like a great book! My first thought when reading this post was “Okay, so Anne does use more than one or two stitch dictionaries.” (I was wondering.) And then I wondered why you didn’t have Stitchionary 4 on your shelf. After I looked it up online and saw it was for crocheting, I understood. I feel like I’ve learned a lot today. 🙂
I’ve been looking for a good lace stitch dictionary, and I certainly trust your word on the quality of this one! I’d love to start designing a bit, or at least start to think more seriously about designing and this would be a step in the right direction.
The one swatch reminds me of the Pear and Trellis Little Nothing. I love that scarf!
That looks like a great reference! I’d love to have a copy for my (still very small and new) knitting library.
me, me, me please!! 🙂 I love those types of reference books!!
I’m envious of the book collection there – mine has barely started… but I have to ask: where is book number 4 in the Vogue series??
The book looks awesome! Thanks for doing this.
I have one of the Stitchionary books [well, it’s my 12 y.o. daughter’s (cottonhollow on Ravelry), but she shares] and would love to have this one as well!
It looks wonderful! It’d be wonderful to win.
It’s so comforting to know there are others with the same addiction…er…ahem….passion for stitch dictionaries. I look forward to acquiring a copy of the fifth Vogue stitchionary…winning one would be nice, but either way I’ll be owning a copy for my personal library.
These books have been on my wishlist for a while now.
ooh that bookshelf looks nice.
I’m very excited about the new Vogue Stitchionary. Winning a copy would be a great way to get it, but I think i’m picking it up regardless.
What a great giveaway! I would love to add that book to my knitting library.
I share your love of stitch dictionaries — Barbara Walker’s are treasured possessions from 35 years ago — and would love to be able to add this new lace treasure to my shelf.
Many thanks.
Thank you so much for the chance to win this!!
I’ve been getting more and more into lace, and have been looking longingly at this volume of the Stitchionary. Even if I don’t win, I’ll eventually cave and order it somewhere, but it sure would be nice not to wait.
Looks like a great reference, one I’d love to have. Like other commenters, I had to wonder why Volume 4 was not on your shelf, and now I know. I love the “On the Edge” series as well…you have a fabulous library!
ooh, a drawing!
YEs, please enter me, I would love to win a copy of the Vogue lace book. Thanks!
I am just starting my knitting library and this would be a great addition. Thanks for throwing this contest! (and I love your blog to bits – with or without contests.)
Woot!!! Me, me, me!!
ohmygoodness. I hope I win. Then I can pull this book off of my Wish List on Amazon.
(Would it help if I mentioned that my birthday is on Tuesday?)
I love stitch dictionaries. I just told a friend on the phone earlier today I am saving for Barbara Walker’s collection.
; )
Love your library! I’d love to win the book too 🙂
That looks like a book I would use a lot. Thanks for the drawing!
Absolutely! I have added the set to my wish list for Christmas (my family shops very early).
I’ve been waiting for a review of this stich dictionary, and today I got two on my feed reader. Both are thumbs up, so if I’m not the lucky winner, I’ll be saving my “pocket money” to get it eventually.
What a beautiful book, I’d love to win it! Thanks for the opportunity.
ooh, Anne, that looks like a wonderful stitch dictionary. I’m staying home this weekend to knit Lace, of course.
Fabulous! I’ve been hoping that they were going to do a lace edition sometime soon and poof!, it happens. 😉
Would love to get started on my stitchtionary collection 😉
I taught myself to knit one hot summer long ago using the Barbara Walker books and some cheap yarn and needles. A great knitting education! I love stitch dictionaries a lot. I’d love to win the new VK book.
OH YES!! Please? I love this series of books and would be delighted to be picked!
I also have to say that I covet your bookshelves. What a great selection to choose from!
(((hugs)))
I’d love to have a copy of the Lace Stitch Dictionary! I have a way to catch up with you in terms of knitting library. Thanks so much for sharing.
I don’t comment often, but I love reading your blog! Seeing your library is very fun – thanks for the chance of winning such a great book.
Thank you to Beth for explaining why you don’t have stictionaary 4. i would dearly love this book- I have a serious obsession fro lace. Iknow have take along lace knitting and serious I need classical music playing and good light lace knitting.
Your blog is a tonic.
Thanks
I would be delighted to own this book. Stitch patterns are so intriguing!
Oohh, I just learned about this volume and I would love to add it to my collection!
I love books and would love to win it.
love your bookshelves. i totally need more room on mine. thanks so much for the giveaway. the lace stitches look really cool.
I love the vogue stitchonaries! I would love to win one even more. 😉
The Stitionary series would be a wonderful collection. I wouldn’t mind starting from 5 and working my way backward! Love your blog and your patterns. So many wonderful projects to admire.
I’ll definitely be getting this book, now that I know it is charted. Thanks for the review!
WOW I REALLY REALLY WANT THIS BOOK ,i wish that i could find knitting books second hand around here , but not much luck.
Shelda
Oh, yes. I would love to own Stichionary 5.
I would also like to complete my set! Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy. I always enjoy your blog, contest or not…thanks!
I comment and comment, but I never win — yet I never give up hope that one day I will win!
Memorial Day = a day to remember our fallen conrades in arms and those who serve now. WooRha.
Just what I need – the start to another collection. But I wouldn’t say no if I won!
Ooo! Thanks for the opportunity to (maybe) have this book!
I would love to own this! Happy Memorial Day!
Oooh! I’d love this beautiful lace stitch dictionary. Such great ideas can be found from these!
That looks like a tremendous resource and I’d love to own a copy.
I am a bibliophile too! And I love lace knitting. So this book would be the perfect combination of these two hobbies!
Pick Me, Please
Like you, I also own the first 3 books in the series – sometimes I pull them out and just look at the pretty swatches. Even if I don’t have a project in mind, I love to think about how I would use the all the different patterns and motifs, and it’s relaxing in a day-dreamy kind of way… I would love to add this book to its siblings on my shelf 🙂
Oh, I’d love a copy of it – if they are including entrants from the UK. It looks marvellous!
But of COURSE I would like to win a copy of Vogue’s newest stitchionary. Lace, no less. Please enter me into your lovely drawing, and thank you!
The book looks wonderful! Thanks for the opportunity.
I’m just starting my journey into lace knitting and I’d love to have this book! Thanks for the opportunity!
What a great resource – count me in for the drawing! Your knitting library is truly inspiring, and makes me want to reorganize all my books, magazines, and patterns.
That book looks beautiful – I’d love to throw my name in the hat!
*gasp* that is a beautiful book! consider my name added, please!
The book looks wonderful! I’d love to own a copy.
I’d love to own a copy of this book. Thanks for the give away!
Yes, I’ll be at home (well, kind of — I’m volunteering both Saturday and Sunday at a no-kill dog shelter) and would LOVE the chance to win such a neat book.
Looks like a lovely book. 🙂
Thanks for reviewing the lovely book, and have a great weekend!
This is a book on my wish list… I love stitch dictionaries even though I don’t design and have a few in other languages that I don’t speak and have purchased almost all through used book stores.. I love leafing through them and finding inspiration. I haunt NYC’s Strand for Barbara Walker’s Treasuries… I scored Volume 3 a few months ago and that rocked (I also bought a hard cover version of Knitting Without Tears that way. I would’ve paid 3x the price for it … it makes me feel that my grandma owned it and actually had a chance to teach me knitting… (i have a modern copy too with the page numbers “wrong because of how it’s bound”)
The stitchionaries are gorgeous and I’ve been waiting for a lace one …
I’m exciting to see how this new muse inspires you… and I’ll dream to be lucky and gain a new muse too.
Oooh, I love that it has charts! It would be a great addition to my knitting library.
We just moved house and I was a bit overwhelmed by all the books! Novels, nonfiction, cookbooks, knitting books… wow.
This looks like a spectacular book. I do hope I’m lucky enough to win a copy. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful week end.
David..pick meeee please! And even if ya don’t, have a fantastic long weekend!!!
Wow, I’d love to enter this contest — thanks!
I have always been intrigued by those stitch dictionaries and would love to win a copy! Happy Memorial Day!
ooh, yes please.
a nice consolation prize opportunity for not getting to travel for the holiday 🙂
I love stitch dictionaries! I don’t own any of the Vogue ones yet, but I have a bunch of other ones, including the old editions of the Harmony stitch dictionaries which I see in one of your photos 🙂
This book looks great. I am always checking the same books out of the library and just looking through them. This one will definately be a looker. After my first lace sweater I vowed to never knit lace again. That was many years ago and I have since made many more lace projects. I can’t wait to read this new book. Thanks for the offer to win it!
Thanks for the preview and opportunity to win. Looks like a “must have”, indeed!
Wow, I would love this!
I just heard about this book yesterday and would love it, too! Have a wonderful holiday weekend!
I LOVE books and would love to have this one too!
Oh, man – that would be just the thing to inspire me – my best friend’s second daughter is on the way and I have to design a christening shawl for her (I did for her sister – wouldn’t do for the older girl to have one and the younger girl not to!).
I would love to get the book
Thanks for the insight into your library – a delight! And, thank you for the overview of the stitch dictionaries. As for owning copy – that would be wonderful, but I just appreciate all the information you share.
Best wishes.
Wow! This looks like a keeper book. Thanks for the opportunity.
I’d love to have this book. I love lace an it would complete my Vogue collection!
It looks like another winner. I love stitch dictionaries too and often just sit and page through them for pure unadulterated inspiration and enjoyment.
I would really love to win, but otherwise, I’ll just have to buy it myself 😉
I love stitch dictionaries!!! So inspirational!
thank you!
I love stitch dictionaries that are charted. Only one of the Barbara Walker books is charted so I really need another charted stitch dictionary. In a word (or three) please, please pick me.
Having recently become addicted to lace, I would love, love, love to win this book!
What an opportunity! I’m a lace junkie, so yes please do enter me. Thank you!
Looks fantastic. Thanks for the chance to win!
Ooh, that’d be lovely.
Have a great weekend!
Yes, I would love to have it. Or, perhaps you would come and tidy up my bookcases : )
Lucky you finding such great knitting books at the used book store! I think the lace stitctionary looks like an inspiring reference. I have the knit/purl one and I find it quite useful.
Thanks for a great review. This is the second one I’ve read and I’m convinced that this book needs to be added to my collection one way or another!
Oh, squee! I’m a stitch-pattern junkie! And lace stitches all fancified? *drool*
🙂
My other Vogue stitch dictionaries would love a new sibling! Please add me to your list of entries.
That looks fantastic! I lust after all the Vogue Stitchionaries, but particularly the lace one.
Yes ,Yes YES!!!!
I love stitch dictionaries. One of my best scores was a copy of ‘Mon Tricot 1030’ from paperback swap.com. It was musty and worn, but I carefully stroked each page with a mixture of witch hazel and tea tree oil, and it is no longer musty.
Yesterday, I received Volume 3 of Weldon’s Practical Needlework, the last one to complete my collection of the 12 volumes.
Lotsa col old stitches in those.
It looks like a wonderful addition to my reference library! Thanks for sharing.
Volume 5 looks awesome! I’ll have to keep an eye out for it in bookstores.
Ooh, me! I’d love to have that book. It looks lovely from your review and photos.
What a beautiful book! Your review is very helpful — I suspect that even if I don’t win it, I’ll be purchasing it sooner rather than later for myself. There’s something so inspiring about collections of stitch patterns, isn’t there?
Ooh, yes please! I would love to win a copy!
I wasn’t aware of these books – I’ll have to take a look. Much as I love my Barbara Walker, I wish all of her patterns were charted like these. thanks,
M
Whoa, lots of competition for the book but could not resist “entering”! Thanks to you and your designs I have become a “laceaholic” and cannot get enough of lace designs so will probably get myself a copy of this anyway, but you never know…
Cheers, Barbie O.
Oooo…I do so love my sticthionaries! I have a lovely little book that I refer to all the time for new scarf and shawl patterns, and I’d adore a copy of this book.
Which I believe I’ll buy regardless of winning it!
I also love the first photograph featured of your bookshelf and workspace – the wallpaper’s lovely! It all has a shabby chic vintage aesthetic, which I love! (I can’t wait to take pictures of my new office/workspace, once I’m finished with it!)
(Also also, your gardening tips have been extremely helpful. I’m starting a potted vegetable garden.)
Love seeing your bookshelves. My son and husband just informed me this morning that my knitting book shelf is sagging. I guess it’s time to make some other arrangements. Would love the new Stitchionary to sit there and accompany Book 1 which is the only one of the series I have now.
I would be thrilled to win this book! But I’m already thrilled that we have many of the same books. This makes me think I’m on the right track because you are the Master. Have a great holiday weekend and thanks for this drawing.
OOOO, another book. I just cataloged this for our county library. I’d love one of my own.
Please, oh, please…let it be me. (My copy of Vogue Stitchionary 2 is so very lonely!)
Wow, what special Memorial Day surprise. I’d love to own it.
That does look a brilliant book, I have some of the Barbara Walker books that get looked through often when I’ve almost but not quite got an idea.
Oh, yes please! I can’t get enough stitch dictionaries, either!!
I would love to add this book to my knitting library. Please add my name to the list!
I wonder if I could squeeze one more book on the shelf. Here’s hoping!
Ooh! I have been wanting this!
Ah, c’mmon. One Albany girl to another Albany girl!
Looks like my bookshelves!!!! Thanks for the review.
Oh I want! You can never have to many knitting books!
I would enjoy a good lace dictionary.
Oh yes, you are so right. Your readers would love that new book! 🙂
OOH me. I have volumes 2 and 3 and I LOVE them!
Where is Stitchionary 4? Is it the black sheep of the family?
i have several stitch dictionaries, but not the ones from Vogue. I’d LOVE to own this one. Lace! Yum!
Oh, I love stitch dictionaries, too… They’re so inspiring!
I hope I win!
I have the same books as you do – but I don’t have vol 5 – so please pick me !
Anne, i am sooo jealous of your collection! I have a small collection of my own, but they’re sort of all over the place. I may print out the first picture for inspiration. 🙂
This book looks awesome!
A dedicated lace stitch dictionary would be very welcome in my house 🙂
Add me to the hopefuls!
Oh, I *love* the first stitch pattern you showed from the book!
When I took up knitting, I was given a basic learn to knit book, and a French stitch dictionary. The first couple of pieces I made were lacy baby blankets improvised using stitch patterns I had found in that stitch dictionary (I’m not sure why, but to me, a baby blanket needed to be lacy!). I’d be delighted to have some more inspiration for lace stitch patterns.
So happy that they have included lace! Though I do agree with you – why do they chose darker yarns to knit swatches with? Several of my Japanese stitch dictionaries have this ‘problem’ on top of some of the photos not being in focus. Have you noticed in some stitch dictionaries – they are very kind to show you an actual knitted lace swatch – but they have neglected to block it other than maybe pat it into a square? Such a shame I say. 🙂
Oooh! Another must have book, can’t wait to see one in the flesh I have some lovely yarns ready to try some of these patterns. Thanks for the great review and heads up Anne.
My bookshelves seriously resemble yours. I would absolutely LOVE to have a copy of the new Vogue Lace book. Raising my hand here.
Thanks for the review.
This one has been on my preorder list at Amazon for a while….I suspect its coming home very very soon. Funny thing is that I have the same ones you do Anne as well as having mine lined up right next to my Nicky Epstein edging books!
I love stitch dictionaries too…never have too many, no matter what language they happen to be in 🙂
I’ve been culling and reorganizing all the books around here recently…but that just means there’s more room for a new one (especially if it’s a good one)!
Have a lovely weekend.
I have been lusting after this book since the first rumor that it was coming. Can’t wait to get it in my hands and on my needles!
That looks like a really nice book and I would certainly like to have a copy. Thanks for having the giveaway.
Here! Over here!! Me! Me! I’d love that stitchionary! I managed to find an old Barbara Walker #3 in a used book store (misfiled of course) and it made my month. I love them, absolutely and read them like they were cookbooks… which of course they are.
Oh yes!!
I would love another stitch dictionary!
You can never have too many knitting books.
Have a great weekend.
PICK ME PICK ME!!!!! I’d love to add this lovely book to my collection!! Us designers must stick together!!!!!!
I love flipping through stitch dictionaries even if i don’t get to design many knits. I would love to win it. The swatches are so pretty and the charts are nice too.
Lovely book! I love how they bring out each book in a thematic color. And lace!
OOOH, a lace stitch dictionary with CHARTS 🙂 This looks fantastic.
Count me in! Thanks Anne.
Would love to add that book to my collection!
Now that’s a stitch dictionary to love!
Elly in NS
No fair for you to say “but i’m no expert”- your photos are always exquisite! I love reading pattern books, stitch dictionaries, you name it…..and keep my collection spread out all over the house so there is always inspiration at hand. This looks like a keeper.
That is one very delicious looking book!
What a great way to break into knitting lace!!
What a great book! I would be very happy to give it a good home.
Looks like a lovely book!
Ohh books!
I love and collect books
These hidden goldmines of concentrated beautiful adventures and a lifetime of wonderful experiences.
Books let my endorphines free and gives me a feeling of fulfilment
The book looks lovely! Love all those blue swatches.
I’d love a copy. I need to expand my horizons beyond socks, and this would be just the thing. Although I bet there are lovely lace patterns which would look great in socks. The one in your second photo looks like a line of fish.
I have several stitch dictionaries on my “wishlist” at Amazon.com – this Vogue issue being one of them. I read your blog faithfully and have been trying to decide which dictionary to purchase – now I won’t need to do anything more than be lucky enough to win this one. Thank you, Anne.
I’ve got a similar addiction to stitch dictionaries. Lace in particular. Can’t wait to see this one IRL.
My bookshelf is overflowing, but I’d love to add this to my small, but growing collection of knitting books.
Thanks, Anne!
I’m so excited to see the latest addition to the Stitchionary family! This one looks like another beautiful addition. Thanks for the opportunity to win it. I’ll have to let it hang out in my cart until the 30th… 🙂
It looks like everyone wants this book. Me too!
I’ve just started looking at and trying lace. I would love this book especially since I am not able to afford to buy it.!!
Diana
What a lovely collection of books!
I am inspired to start collecting stitch dictionaries (in addition to all of the patterns I already own…).
Thanks for this give-away.
I don’t have any of their other stitch dictionaries, but this one looks like it’s worth getting.
Oh my, I’m also a stitch dictionary junkie. Now I have yet another book to crave!
I’ve been looking for new lace stitch inspiration and this would be perfect! Thanks for the opportunity to win.
Your addiction and library shelves look much like my own. I’d love a copy. How nice of you to do this!
Love that dictionary and would use and enjoy it while I think of you!
Ooh! Me! Pick me please!
Ooh, that looks like a lovely reference book! I’d be thrilled to get a copy.
It looks like a great book! Please put me in the draw.
I love your blog and all your patterns. I’m making the baby blanket you recently finished and can’t wait for the matching sweater and hat! Thank you for your beautiful designs.
Hello Anne,
the book looks interesting. And i like the campanula scarf, patterns, color – just fantastic. It could be in the book!!??
Have a nice weekend. Its already bright and sunny in Iceland 🙂
Best regards
Corinna
The book looks wonderful! Thank you for the giveaway!
I have one of the Stitchionary Books and I love it. I would LOVE to win the Lace version. Happy Memorial Day!
It’s great to see that there’s a new edition of the Stitchionary books. I do not own any of them but I always look at them when I’m in the book store.
Have a nice weekend! :o)
lace is one of the things I use stitch dictionaries for the most. Looks like a great resource!
Have a nice holiday weekend!
I love stitch dictionaries too!
I’ve been drooling over this one since I first heard about it; I’d love to have a copy to join my other three. 🙂
Oh, lace! Yum!
A lace dictionary with pictures, graphs, AND written patten…Life is complete!! I would love to be able to give this book a nice home to rest with other knitting books and chat about knitting going-ons.
have a fabulus Memorial Weekend…..
pick me. it’s my birthday!
Been following your blog for several years now. The patterns, the photography and the writing are truly inspirational.
This new book has intrigued me….would love to be included in the draw!
Thank you and enjoy the long weekend!
That looks like an awsome book! I love lace. 🙂
Would love to have the lace book. I haven’t tried lace, this would be a good way to start. Love to knit and love your blog. You are so talented.
I’m a newer knitter, but I’m finding that I quite like browsing through stitch dictionaries as well. I picked up Barbara Walker’s “Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns” for myself for my birthday.
It’s always fun to see how a fellow book lover arranges their treasure. Yours is the second positive review of the Lace Stitch Dictionary that I have encountered – looks like a book I want to own.
I too love books, and to have one like this would be great. Thank you for the opportunity. I just love to see your blog posts, they are so beautiful, fun, informative, and inspirational. Enjoy your weekend!
Ooh, I’d love to have that book! Stitch dictionaries are my favorite too.
That looks like a wonderful reference library… and I love stitch dictionaries as well!
I’ve enjoyed reading your posts about your garden almost as much as I love reading about your knitting… thanks!
Thank you for your generosity. I have three of the other stitchonaries and would love to add this one to my reference section.
I smiled when I saw the condition of your BW books…my yellow (first treasury) is split into two pieces now from much love :D.
I would love to add this new dictionary to my library 😀
What a nice thing to do! I too, love books.
The new stitchionary would be a wonderful addition to any knitter’s library – especially mine! 🙂 Thank you so much for the opportunity to win this amazing-looking book.
What a beautiful book. Would love to have a copy. Thanks! Genie
Ooohhh, I was flipping through this today at my LYS and wishing it could come home with me!
I was happy to see this volume coming out but haven’t been able to see one in person. Looks great! Safe travels this weekend.
Glad to see a lace stitch dictionary. Love your wall of books.
mmmm i never win the lottery so maybe i’ll be lucky with this gorgeous book!
You found me!
The different yarn colors were according to the type of lace pattern, if I remember correctly.
I haven’t got my copy of the book yet – they were supposed to give one to those of us who helped knit the samples. Hopefully I will see it soon.
Tana
This book looks amazing…I think I may have to buy it… unless I win 🙂
“You can never have too many knitting books” is my motto!!
Wow, that DOES look like an awesome book……
Might as well give it a shot, as that book looks fantastic!
My BFF is the library. Oh, if only I could own this book, just for me. I would absolutely love to give it a home.
Looks like a real treasure!
I would love to own this book – I could learn a lot from it!
I love stitch pattern collections – I have quite a few of the same ones you do, but none of the Vogue’s. Count me in on the drawing. Very generous of you, Vogue, and Sixth & Spring books!
Oh – I would just love one of these books!!!
Thank you Anne for sharing your love of knitting and gardening with us all.
Blessings,
Naomi
I strangely own no stitch dictionaries, I must remedy this!!
Oh please!! Pick me.
Beth
Having just downsized (a lot!), the last thing I need is more stuff coming in to the house. But, let’s face it, I’m never going to cut back on the fiber fun, so yes, please add me to the draw. And if I don’t win, my birthday is next week and I could always drop a hint or two . . . or seven . . .
Have a wonderful weekend, and thanks so much for the blog and the patterns and the introduction to so many wonderful yarns.
Reference books are The necessity of a knitting life! I’d love this one.
What a tidy bookcase! I have never checked out this book collection.
I would love to have this Stitchionary book. And have it join it’s sister book Stitchionary book #1. Thank you Anne and Sixth & Spring Books for this offer.
Ooohhh …How exciting.. I have a lot of pattern books, but only a couple of reference books. I am considering trying my hand at designing, this would really come in handy. Cheers.
Nicole
I’d love for that book to come join my library! I have a couple of companions for it. 🙂
that book looks lovely!
oh, me, me, me! Pick me! LOL! I just added this to my Amazon wish list the other night. I have the other Stitchionaries and would love to complete the set. 😉
I have a few stitchionaries but none of them are less and none of them are what I would consider ‘high quality’ like this one! I hope my number get’s drawn!
Longtime lurker coming out to take my chance on lace stitches!
I plan to get as organized as you look this summer! Thanks for sharing.
I would love a stitch dictionary….
I don’t have any stitch dictionaries and would love to have this one.
Ooo… I would love a copy of the book. It looks wonderful.
ooo ooo pick me, David! I need some inspiration for my knitting these days.
I’d love to get a copy of this book. Your lacework is so inspiring that I would be thrilled to receive a lace stitchonary.
I would love to win a copy of this book! Thanks Anne 😀
just one question: where’s Stitchionary 4 in your shelf? ;>)
would love to own S5 – it would be a totally great 33rd Anniversary present for me!
thanks for the opportunity to give it a try.
This is a wonderful treat for staying home this weekend. The book sounds wonderful.
I haven’t started a collection of Stitchionary – and would be very happy to start here. Thanks for the opportunity to win! Love your creativity Anne!
Most of my knitting books come from library book sales and garage sales. I have lots of magazines, too–some long-standing subscriptions (like McCall’s Needlework and Crafts from the 60’s until the magazine folded) or from library/garage sales. I also have many craft and needlework (like cross stitch and quilting) books.
Ha! Odds are against me, but I’ll have a go. Good to see they’ve finally added charts to one of these books; that’s been a deal-breaker for me.
Oooh, that looks like a good book. I don’t have many knitting books but I love stitchionaries too.
The book looks lovely. I have none of the Vogue stitch dictionaries, although I’ve often drooled over them at the book store.
Ooh, I’d love a copy. I’ve always coveted the Vogue stitchionaries but they’re very, very expensive in Australia.
I’m jealous of your stitch dictionary library, by the way. Very jealous.
Oooh, your bookshelves are so tidy! I wish. Thanks for the blogging!
I do believe you have found a book that I must add to my present collection!
It looks like a lovely one at that!! Thanks for sharing!
That is a nice set of stitch dictionaries!
Thank you for the review.I would love having Stitchionary 5 to add to my reference collection of knitting books. Whether I win or buy it, this book will find a home with me.Good luck to us all!
I would LOVE to get that book (and will undoubtedly buy it when I don’t win it).
Looks like a great book!
I would love love LOVE to receive that book (so maybe someday I can have a knitting bookcase half as amazing as you!). Always enjoy the blog Anne- thanks so much!
Have three and would love to have the lace stichionary to add to my reference collection. I too am obsessed or have a passion for knitting books, etc. Just can’t resist a good book.
Love your library, One can never have enough stitch dictionaries. I love to browse them for ideas for new projects. Love reading your blog. Continue the gret posts.
Ok, looks like many of us are looking to add to our libraries!!!! thanks for the give-away. Congratulations to the lucky winner – whomever that might be!
Have a great weekend everyone.
I’m interested! Thanks for the giveaway.
Who could resist — looks like a wonderful reference item. Thanks for setting this up.
I too love stitchionaries! I would love to win this one – it would have company too!
Oh I’d love to add #5 to my collection! Please enter me in the drawing.
I’d love to win the lace stitchtionary. I bought volumes 1 and 2 and use them often. I didn’t even realize they were making a lace one — yay! Regardless of whether or not I win, thanks for bringing this book to my attention. May 30th is my birthday and so if I don’t win, I know what to get myself as a present! Thanks for the lovely surprise.
If you recommend this book, then it’s one I should have in my library. Thanks!
What a great stitch dictionary. I don’t have very many so I think this one will have to find a way into my knitting library.
That was a great review. I wasn’t thinking of getting that volume, but now I definitely want it. Thanks.
That does look like a lovely addition! I love stitch guides too – they are so pretty and inspiring!
Oh wow, tons of comments! This is on my wish list for a birthday gift this autumn, would love to have it! 🙂
It looks like a beautiful book!
Looks like a lovely stitchionary and I would be ever so excited if my name was drawn.
I would love a copy if I am lucky enough and it will go nice with my little collection of stitchonaries (including the first 3 vogue ones).
I find it disturbing, that you are satisfied with an incomplete set Anne! I hope Volume 4 is in heavy use in another room!
Over 300 comments — wow! Lovely gift.
I’ve been out of pocket for the past couple of days, but I did enjoy your previous posts! Thanks for the great contest. Hi to David!
I love stitch dictionaries and am so impressed by your collection. I do have several of the same ones as you, so I know I am in good company 🙂 I would love to add this one to my bookshelf, but only after I have worn the ink off the pages. I promise not to drool on it!
PS, My birthday was this week…hint, hint LOL!
I don’t have many knitting books, and they are second hand, and old enough to be mostly in black and white. I think for all the lace I knit I should have this one. It looks beautiful. I hope I’m lucky.
I love pattern books, especially lace ones. I’m just finishing your Spiraluscious and love it. I’ve used a small ball of buffalo that I bought on a whim and then didn’t have enough yardage to make much of anything so this pattern worked perfectly. I keep thinking some day I’ll design something but then remember that there are so many designs to take advantage of! Thanks for entering my name in the drawing.
Wow, look at all those comments! I think I am 315, and I would love a lace stitchionary. What a wonderful gift!
Please do enter me in the contest — a book that gets your endorsement is one I’d love to have. If I don’t win, I’ll most likely end up buying it for myself very soon. 🙂 Thank you!
I found that post very inspiring!
Thank you for a thoughtful review. I would love to be entered into the contest.
I would so love to have this! I am starting my foray into designing and need all the help can get!
Thank you for having this contest and have a wonderful holiday!
Anne, thank you for the contest – I would love to be entered!
I’d love a copy of #5! Thanks for the contest.
pick me – pick me!!! i love – love -love your website and your patterns, which i own several of, i am all about lace! i also think you and david are just adorable – thank you anne for all the inspiration! have a wonderful weekend – and pick me – pick me!
I’d love to have this book!
Thanks for the contest–I just love all the pictures on your blog!
What a great trip through part of your library. Would love to see more! My second guilty pleasure after buying yarn is collecting knitting books. 😀
We have some of the same books 🙂
I am (1) loving the sequential pictures of the new book slipping in next to its siblings and (2) twitching because they are 5-2-3-1. [Where is #4? Off rolling (stockinette-edged) drunks in the park?] And who told them they could get out of order like that?
I will de-lurk to throw my hat into the ring!
Would love to win a copy of this. I have been eyeing it all week!
Anne, I’m very envious of your library. I love books. Knitting books are the best – except maybe a book I’ve written LOL. But then they’re my babies. Takes as much or more time to birth a book as it does a baby.
I’m looking forward to adding this new stitch dictionary to my own library.
Hope you and David have a wonderful Memorial Day.
What a treat to stay home for the weekend! I completely identified with your searching through used bookstores.
Thank you for the review of Stitchionary #5. I’m glad they put out one for lace. I’d been hoping for that. Please enter me in the drawing.
I’d love to win the lace book, as I am a knitter who owns no stitch dictionaries and loves to knit lace!
You gave it a great review–can’t wait to add it to my collection.
PICK ME PICK ME, DAVID!!!!
Adding my name to the hundreds of others who would love to have this book too!
I feel like a sheep, following the flock… but I, too, would love a copy of #5!
I would very much like to have a copy of the new book. I am totally into lace right now and just made my very first shawlette.
I would love to be entered in the draw, my first knitting book was a stitch dictionary, and I flip through them on quiet afternoons…
Seriously? You actually have to ask if one of us wants a copy of that book? Yes! Yes we do!
Oo! This one excites me too. Please count me in for the drawing. 🙂
I would love to enter the draw for that wonderful stitch dictionary! I”m learning to knit lace, and loving every minute of the process! Can’t wait to start my Pine and Ivy shawl!
another knitting book lover here! especially lace patterns!!
Oh wow, I hope David picks me!
Thanks for having the drawings. Fun!
Would love to have a copy of this book!! I love knitting lace and I’m sure this would inspire me to maybe even one day design a shawl of my own.
I love reading your blog so much. I think I’ll have to buy this stitchionary if I don’t win. I’ve always had ambitions to design, but have always been leery and apprehensive. Your blog is always so inspiring and educational because you don’t just show the finished project, you often show the steps to how you achieve the finished objec. Thank you for your knowledge and willingness to share!
Can never, ever have too many books, especially books relating to knitting! (I loved seeing your bookshelves….and seeing how many books we have in common.) Please add my name to the drawing.
Looks like a great lace book. Charts plus words plus good photos = win!
Wow! So many comments…makes me seriously doubt that I have a chance to win, but here goes anyway. I would LOVE to get my hands on a copy of any of the knitting stitch dictionaries! Alas, I am woman of limited funds and cannot afford them. So winning this book would be awesome! Pick me, David! Pick me! LOL
Love those Stitchionaries! Count me in too please.
Sweet! This seems like a perfect stitch dictionary.
I have books 1 and 2 and I agree they are wonderful.
I will be getting volume 5 to add to my collection
Please add me to the list of want it, need it, gotta have it, would love to win it.
Thanks, Marla
Thanks Anne! A gift book is always a great idea!
Add me to the list of people eagerly wanting to get this book! It looks fantastic.
What a great bonus for your readers! Looks like a great addition to the stitchionary series.
What a wonderful idea! And how nice to share…I would love to add it to the every growing knitting book collection!
WAH WAH(crying) I never win anything. Feel sorry for me yet. LOL
Looks like a wonderful book!
Yes please!
love the fact that you have all those old stitch dictionarys wish I had half of them. The new one certiantly looks good and like you I love books that stack together, some of my knitting ones do that well but bookcases when is enough enough never I think.
I do identify with the “Sunday Best” theory, I am the same way. I too have a lot of knitting/crafting books all arranged neatly on my shelves. I did notice that you don’t have vol.4 – crochet?
Thanks again for all you give to the knitting community!
I have the first three in the series and I’ve really enjoyed them.
Love the book, and I love your site!!!
Wow! That is a tempting book! I also love grammar books (for the different languages I use) and have way more than I probably need, but like my knitting books, they all get lots of use.
The book looks like a winner!
I actually don’t own any stitch dictionaries, but there is always a first and I pretty love all knitting books and browse through mine freqently.
I would L.O.V.E. to win this book!!
The book looks fantastic — would love to own a copy!!
I would love to have a stich dictionary of more lace. Gotta love the lace.
I’m pretty new to lace knitting but would love to have this book.
I would love to have a copy of this new book. Pick me please, David!!
Oh please let me have a chance to win a copy of this wonderful book! I only have one of the dictionaries and I would love to have the lace one. Thank you!
I’d love to win the book, but really just had to leave a comment to say that Tana is my very favorite techie! Working on a few of my patterns is how she got her start, and it makes me so happy to see her working with VOGUE!!
Love Love Love your blog!!! Yes – would love to have this book to keep the other ones company on my shelf of knitting books and mags…
Thanks so much for all your beautiful photos!!
I’d love to start my own collection – this would be a great book to start with!
I could always use a knitting stitch pattern book. You can learn something new everyday. I’m always looking for a new stitch I can
put in my socks. It is very generous of you.
love the book. I love lace knitting from charts
I love my knitting books – but am completely in awe of your library… I could spend all year browsing your shelves quite happily!
I can admit to being a book-aholic as much as a yarn-aholic. Why oh why must I have two such expensive hobbies?!
I would LOVE a copy of this book. I have the other 4 volumes and have been hoping for a volume dedicated to lace. Thanks for the opportunity to win one!
That looks beautiful! Thanks for the chance to win!!
David? Oh Daaaavid? Over here, pick me!
Thank you for the 1/300 odd chance of winning this book!
Yes, I’ll put my name in!!
I love these books. Have the other 4 Stitchionary books, and love them!! Will add this book to my collection, hope I win!!
My fingers and toes are crossed 🙂 I would love to win!
Sign me up please also!
Well, I’m a new reader to your blog but love your patterns, photography and blog. Couldn’t resist commenting – especially when there’s a prize involved 😉
And like you – I can never have enough books. I figure time is limited for knitting (can’t imagine knitting 5 shawls +more in a few months . . . not with school, kids, moving, etc!) — but some day I’ll be able to indulge myself and get to all those pages I have marked for projects!
Are you kidding?! A book of nothing but lace patterns? Where do I sign up?
Ooh, I’d love to own this book!
Would love this book. wow! This is one of my favorite blogs,
Your work is so amazing and inspiring. Thanks!
What a beautiful book! If I won, I’d have to buy the rest. 🙂
Love you site and heres to hopping I win the copy of vogue knitting stitchionary 5!
I am just begining to crave stitch dictionaries. I have one little booklet that I inherited 30ish years ago. There are so many out there I don’t know where to start……..hmmmm David you could solve that problem…. 🙂
looks lovely – yes, stitch dictionaries are good reading – thank you for sharing! Cheers!
I love the photos of your bookshelves and the sneak peek into Vol. 5. It looks great, and I would love to be added to the list. Everything looks so neat and organized. I would love to see photos of your knitting area, or yarn stash, tool organization, etc. Curious minds want to know 😉
Would love to add this lovely book to my knitting library…..Sharon J
From reading all the stitchionary posts this week, it’s clear I need to ramp up my personal library and not always just fall back on Barbara Walker 1-4. Vol. 5 looks great!
thanks for the chance to win!
Nice review! I’m pretty sure I’m going to need this one!
I wish my knitting library was as organized as yours – it is not – shameful for a retired librarian – but I’m too busy knitting right now – I would love to have the new stictionary – lace is my passion too.
Oh I would faint if I won that book 🙂
I have stayed away from some other stitch books as they only have written instructions. I am with you, show me a chart and I AM IN!!!
Pick me and it will have a GREAT home:)
Let me add my name to the gaggle of knitters! You probably wouldn’t have too hard of a time giving away those “old” Barbara Walker books, either!
Thanks!
I love stitch dictionaries and my ever growing collection has long since outgrown its shelf space. I also love technique book and I really wish there were more of them. I’ve been quite pleased to see more of them, though, in the last few years.
Why yes, I would love to win this book. Thanks!
I’m so inspired by your’s and David’s activities–from planting to cooking to, yes, knitting. I’ve been on a sock kick lately, but I have some Briar Rose to start on an Ondule next. Thank you for making knitspot such a lovely stop on my Internet trips!
Please break my 0 – 1000s losing streak!
That looks like a great lace book. It would help me with my designing.
I learned from you at Camp Cattywampus the joys of a stitch dictionary and would love this one.
This is a Beatiful Book and a must have for anyone that does lace. I love the first lace picture you showed. Have to add it to the lace sampler I am making.
That book looks like it would be lovely next to my one other Stitchionary!
I would love to add this book to my collection! Thanks for the opportunity to win it :o)
That is one book I’d love to have. Even though I’m not a great lace knitter, I love to knit lace. The beauty of well placed holes goes beyond words.
Ooh, ooh, pick me. Thanks for the chance to win.
So glad to see that Stitchonery 5 is out. Loved your extended description—the charts AND good-sized pictures of knitted lace have really sold me. I’m a visual learner (which knitter isn’t?!), so the charts-plus-big-photos is a huge draw. Can’t wait to get a copy! Thanks for the drawing, too. Happy holiday weekend to all — and here’s to finishing a lot of ADs (Almost Dones) in the next couple of days.
wow, I’d love to be the lucky winner. I’m so glad they included charts, they make all the difference for me. Thanks for doing this.
oh I’d love that book. I love knitting lace scarves but I’m very particular about stitch patterns! I’ll end up buying this book soon anyways!
I would love to win this Stitchionary, and agree that these Vogue Knitting pattern books are beautifully done. I am impressed by the neatness of your knitting books as well. One of my tasks for the weekend is to organize my knitting/beading room.
Thanks for the opportunity to win the book. I have a few of your lovely lace patterns waiting for my lace-knitting skills to improve!
I’d love to win this! I have no stitch dictionaries at all (I know…what’s wrong with me?)
The book looks beautiful! (So does your library! 🙂 )
As a newbie lace knitter, this book sounds like a good addition to any knitters library. Thank you for the review. I would love a copy!
What a great book! I’d love to win a copy. I enjoy your blog — thanks!
I am intrigued with knitting lace and am almost finished with the knitting of my second piece. Would love a copy of this stitchionary!
I would love to win the book but if I don’t I will be buying it.
I’d love that book – put me in for the drawing – if I don’t win – I’ll just have to purchase it (sob)! 🙂
Please pick me Please pick me!!! thank you so much for the chance. Love to read you – Love your patterns and inspiration
I love that charts are included! My favorite kind of instructions for almost any kind of knitting, especially lace.
The book looks as necessary as the others in the series.Today is the perfect day to stay in and knit given that it is currently SNOWING here in Calgary, Alberta. Yep, that’s me playing the pity vote 😉 But there are really pretty, fluffly flakes falling from the sky ! Well, they’d be pretty if it was DECEMBER.
Thanks for the opportunity. Love your blog.
Fantastic giveaway! Thank you! I’ll definitely try my luck …
i love knitting books too and have the first two vogue stitch dictionaries. would love to have the newest one!
I, too, love the Stitch dictionaries! I’m starting my own modest collection. 🙂
I’d love a stitchionary! I’ve been knitting for almost a year, and have a hankering to design: something like a stitchionary would definitely help with that!
Lovely photos (as usual). Thanks for the great description!
Anne, I will leave designing lace items up to you…what i love about lace knitting is the charting. Seeing so many charts in one book between two covers seems so exciting to me.
mary
I loved those photos of your pattern/stitch library. Jealous! My sweetheart already thinks I have too many books, but, well, I disagree. Thanks for your generosity and your great blog, Anne.
I hope David picks me! One can never have enough books. Have a great weekend you guys!
Oh wow, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a copy of this book!
I have only one of the blue book’s siblings (the green one, knit and purl) but I’d love to “add to the family”!
Impossible to resist such wonderful swatch pictures. I would love to give it a closer look.
All the best,
Dawn
Yay for stitch pattern books! I love that they’re charted–I hate having to make my own charts for things. It definitely looks like a keeper!
I’d love to win this book…thanks for offering it.
I would absolutely love to win that book! I’ve been looking to expand my lace knowledge, but being the poor grad student I am, I just drool over the books at the store so I can afford the yarn to supply my habit.
Loving Knitspot patterns and loving lace like I do – this book is a must for my knitting library! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to win this book.
Impresive library! I would love to give this book a good home. Happy Holiday Thank you
what a wonderful library you’ve got!
I’d love a copy of the lace stitch dictionary – hope they will send it to Canada in the slim chance that I win!
I’d love to add it to my library. Thanks for the opportunity to get it as a prize. Have a wonderful holiday weekend.
i’d love a copy of this; i’ve been thinking all year about getting more seriously into designing patterns, and this would be a wonderful resource! thanks for doing this. 🙂
Can I just say………”pick me”…………”pick me”??? Love that you are so generous with this give away!!!
I hope David picks me and I hope you are having a lovely weekend.
Oh, I’ll throw my hat into that ring, for sure 😉 And I second or third or 247th the notion that you and David have a lovely weekend. I also love stitch dictionaries, and mine have plenty of siblings! But could always add one, oh yeah!
Is there a stitch book 4? By your descriptions and photos looks like I would love the series.
Me, me, me, please! xov
Oh, that does look like a lovely book!
Thanks for the peek inside the book. Looks like a nice addition to the set.
How thoughtful of Vogue…and you, Anne. I appreciate the chance to win this lovely book. Winning aside, I so appreciate that you love these books and continue to share this passion with us through your beautiful patterns. Looking forward to your visit to Kitchener/New Hamburg!
Hi! You remind me of me – I have hardly ever met a knitting book I didn’t see the value of owning. On top of that, I feel the same way about a lot of cookbooks. On top of that, I have a husband and four children who are also somewhat enamored of books. You could definitely mistake our house for a library, except it is not nearly as neat or well organized. It would be fun to add Stitionary Volume 5 to the party – it sure wouldn’t be lonely!
Thanks for the review – I didn’t realize that Volume 5 was lace – now I will have to buy one if I don’t happen to win the drawing.
Oh, I am so glad these are charted also! I have the other volumes. And, like you, countless other knitting books – some from used bookstores also. And beading books. And cookbooks. And dog training books. Hmmm, I guess I should’ve been a librarian. LOL
How fabulous to have a new Stitchionary!
I really like that first lace pattern that you showed that’s in the book, I don’t think any of my stitchionary have the pattern in it. It’s look like a good stitchionary to own.
Looks like a lovely addition to anyone’s collection.
Oh I love charts! I’ll be adding that book one way or another! 🙂 Have a great weekend, Anne.
I’d love to add this to my collection of stitch dictionaries – it looks wonderful. Thanks for the giveaway!
What a beautiful book…I would love to have a copy!
I would really appreciate and love a copy of the book. Pick me please, David!
Yay! A contest! I have been guilty of hunting used book shops for knitting purposes as well – acquired Elizabeth Zimmerman and others which I used to teach myself how to knit. Mom was only successful in making me want to knit and fixing beginner mistakes, she laughed at my early attempts too much for real progress, until I was old enough to find the books and teach myself.
I would heart that book! 🙂
I would so love this book to add to my own collection!
I’m home this weekend (because dh was kind enough to go to the soccer tournament), gardening and knitting a bit. I’d love to have the lace book—it is beautiful!
Anne, What a beautiful collection of knitting stitches..there is nothing lke time out to pour thorough the beautiful old books. Your bookshelves are so nice…is that some of David’s nice work? He is a treasure..
Oh boy, would I love to have that book! But most of all – thanks for the great review with pictures. I love all of my knitting books, too. Nothing like them for late night reading before turning out the light.
Sounds like a great book – thanks for the review.
I would love to have a lace stitch book. I really like the layout of this book.
Ooh, Ooh, Me, me! Seriously, it looks like a treasure for the collection. I’ll also have to check out their other books. Thanks for the generosity.
I’d like to throw my name in the hat too! I also have a “thing” for stitch guides, when I don’t feel like knitting I just flip through the pages . Thanks for passing on a copy!
I feel vaguely guilty throwing my name in on this one, since it hasn’t been too long since I won a book here but hey — I would get over it, if I won! 😉
Would love, love, love to win this resource. Please add my name. Thank you, Anne.
I totally love books that have stitch patterns in them. There is a really cool antique store that I check out frequently, and I enjoy looking at vintage knitting patterns and the occasional book that is wedged in between others. A real treasure when you find something that has to do with knitting. After reading your posts recently, I have begun to experiment with lace. Mostly I do socks because I don’t have to spend as much money on yarn, but still get the benefit of lots of knitting time. How cool it would be to win this book!
As a former working librarian, books are one of my drugs of choice. (Yarn is the other.) I would love to add is book to my collection. I still love to look at used bookstores and library sales to see what I can find.
Please, please, please, pick me, pick me, pick me (waves arms excitedly)!!! Would love to add this to my library! Love to read your blog and watch your knitting and garden grow!!!
I’ve always loved the Vogue Stitchionary series for their photos! Very Pretty.
I’d love to win a copy of the new Vogue volume. I’m with you on the benefits of collecting books and stitch dictionaries!
Lucky you and your garden. Some wild critter ate all my freshly planted parsley and munched the tops of my freshly planted lettuce plants. I’d like to blame a rabbit or moose or bear (the garden is at our recreational cabin in Alaska), but it is likely the darn squirrel. Oh well – wild critters gotta eat too, I guess.
I really, really would like this book. I want to start knitting lace, especially a shawl and have been reluctant to try again. (First try quite a few years ago was a disaster) Thanks in advance for picking me!!
I have also thought that they needed to do a lace stitchionary. I’m so glad I saw this (and even if I am not the lucky winner I will be adding this book to my collection).
Happy weekend to you and David, and thank you for the preview (and the chance to win!). I always love seeing other people’s book collections 🙂
Fingers crossed!!!!
So many comments and just one book…
i would like it so much
petra
Thanks for the chance to add a book to my collection

Good grief! 488 comments thus far…. What a gorgeous-looking book, and particularly so as I seem to have lace on the brain lately. I’d love to be entered, please, if they’re willing to ship it to Canada. If not, I understand. Thanks for the contest. Happy Memorial Day to you folks.
Would be nice to have a book when I start knitting lace…..I just gotta start something. I already have yarn…..and one of your shawl patterns…what’s holding me up…..guess your many wonderful sweater patterns! Hope your having fun in Wooster!

Thanks for the great review of the book — it looks lovely and I’m sure it would be a great addition to anyone’s library
Your review is so very good. You have a gift for clarity… matches your and David’s photography.
Thanks for being there!!
Elizabeth
My odds of winning seem slim, but I really like stitch dictionaries. Thanks.
I just painted one gone-to-college-and-not-coming-home-this-summer son’s room and collected all of my knitting and quilting reference materials in one bookcase. I think there’s just enough room for a stitchionary! Even though I miss my son (who turns 21 in July) I’m loving having all of my fiber stuff in one room 🙂
I love reading your blog and knitting your patterns!
Oh wow! Tell sixth&spring I would love to have one of those too. I have 1 and 2 and love the way they’re written and illustrated.
Thanks for the offer, now can you tell David to pick me? Enjoy your long weekend!
I received this great book from DD for Mother’s Day, but if I won it, I have a very good knitting friend who would receive it for her birthday!
I would love a copy of the Stictionary Lace book. It would be a terrific addition to my knitting library!
This looks like an excellent book! Thank you for offering such a wonderful giveaway. I don’t have any stitch dictionaries, so this is pretty exciting! 🙂
This book has been on my wish list for quite a while! Glad it’s finally out.
What a lovely book! I enjoy reading your blog, especially all the updates about your plants and knitting.
What a lovely book! I enjoy reading your blog, especially your updates about plants and knitting.
Sorry if this is a repeat comment, the internet is acting up.
Well, there are over 500 comments at this point (amazing), but I’ll throw my name into the ring as I’d love to have that book! I do enjoy lace and this book would be lovely to have in my collection.
I never win anything and there’s a bazillion comments but.. what the heck! 🙂 It looks like a beautiful and very useful book and I’d be thrilled. Thank you!
Definately a super addition to any lace-loving knitter’s library. Thanks for your review!
I love books too, as does my whole family. I would this one as I am suddenly lace obsessed! Thanks for the opportunity and happy weekend to you and David
Anne,
I love your blog. I love that you post often. I love that your patterns have a lot of lace in them. I love that you block everything so well. I love that you know the difference between its and it’s. I love that you don’t use swear words. I even love your garden, tho mine is nowhere near so wonderful.
Barb
:–)
Ohhhhh! I’d LOVE a copy of the Vogue Stitchionary volume 5. Please pick me!
I’m a fellow designer and I love your patterns and have knit more than one of them. I also love stitch books, and lace so this book would be perfect to add to my collection.
Ok, I have to have this one! Win it or not! I’d really love to win it though!
This looks like a great stitch book, thanks for having the giveaway. I love reading your blog and seeing all your designs.
Looks like a lovely book.
I so enjoy reading your posts!
I am a beginner lace knitter and this looks like it would be really helpful.
Thanks for the giveaway opp and your great blog – well written and beautifully photographed. Someday when I grow up, I’d like to be able to knit your beautiful patterns – got a few today @ Great Lakes Fiber Festival. T
I don’t have 1, 2, 3, or 4 – here goes nothing!! Thanks for the fun giveaway. I love all your designs!
Like you, I think this book will fill a gap in the series! How exciting to see it coming out! I’d love to be one of those who has a chance at winning it! Thanks for the giveaway and for the lovely blog and knitting designs.
Beautiful book, would love to add it to my collection. Thanks 🙂
My twisted henley is looking great – thanks for the beautiful, fun-to-knit, pattern (I’m a process knitter).
Would love to add this book to my shelf.
I would love to own a copy of this book! I too find knitting books wonderful although I don´t have as many books as you, Anne 🙂
Thanks to knitting some of Anne’s patterns, I am addicted to knitting lace. I would so love to own this book and expand my skills!
Oooh I’ve been waiting for this one to come to my local library. It’s good to hear that it’s charted and written. And I’m glad I decided to stay up and read your blog tonight (this morning heh)!
My other 4 Stitchionary volumes need to meet their new sibling! Thanks Anne.
I’d love to add this book to my not so large knitting library!!! (But, you have to start somewhere!)
Thanks for the opportunity to enter the contest! Looks like a great reference volume.
Hey it’s 8:41 Eastern time. Just under the wire. I’d love a chance at Stitchonary 5. I also collect stitch dictionaries. Love them.
HEY DAVID, PICK ME!!!!!!!!!! It looks like a lovely book. Thanks for giving us all a chance to win it!
Iwould love to have a copy. I have the rest of the set also and would love to have a well rounded family. Thanks for the opportunity.
Haha, there are a lot of us!
I can this give this book a vert nice home.
And I thought I had lots of knitting books! I can’t wait to show your blog pics to my husband so he’ll realize I’m not alone as a bookaholic for knitting books!
What a great prize! This series is lovely – and this new volume is going on my wish list for sure.
I just cleaned out my books, so I would be glad to provide a lovely home for this lovely book!
I would love to add this to my library!
Anne, like you I love stitch dictionaries, also like you, I am budget minded. I have often checked out the Vogue books at my library and dreamed of the day I could own the whole set. This would be a great start, I could work my way backwards!
I would love to win that book. And I love your blog!
This looks like a great resource! Thanks for the chance to win it!
You have convinced me of the wisdom of swatches. This book would be an excellent motivator!
I made it home from vacation just in time to see this post. 🙂
Your books looks so tidy! Maybe I’ll spend my extra day off getting my knitting library in order. Thanks for the inspiration!
Been looking for a good lace pattern book. Might I be so lucky???? Thanks, Ann, for sharing your life & knitting. Your blog is one of my favorites.
Oh! I’m so glad it has charts!
OMG, jealous! I have……ONE…..stitch dictionary, and it’s slim and from the 1970s. I was just noticing last night, while I was working on a sketch for a lace design, that this one is, well, not enough. Sigh.
I would love to win this book, but actually plan on buying it since my winning it is remote. I’m a BIG lace knitter and so having this in my library will be a big plus! Thank you for the review. The others I’ve read of it have been similarly complimentary, so I will enjoy using it.
I would love to be entered in the book drawing.
Your entry made me smile. I have my non-knitting books sorted by category, so they will have like-minded books to associate with. Of course, all the knitting books and patterns have their own dedicated book shelf. (Shelves.)
I have many stitch dictionaries and would always like one more!
Do I see a lot of new lace patterns coming up? I hope so! Looks like a great resource.
Oh the Places I’d Go,
with a Vogue, high or low,
To take it for Thai food,
or for an ice cream mood,
Oh the things I’d knit,
Will you pick me?
I’d flip!
(Thanks for offering this book to one of us.)
Oh gosh,
I’d hate to ask, but then again, it does look rather wonderful. I dare say this books would take pride of place on the (short) shelf reserved for craft books. This shelf needs to grow…
Oh, and I like your blog!
I remember hearing that they were working on that book awhile back and I was so excited! I love books that are well designed with patterns and pictures and it just incites creativity and inspiration. Thanks for sharing!
Hi! I love reading your blog – thank you for this opportunity to try and win a book of stitches!
I just realized you live in Mason OH – I am in Columbus now – I lived in Cincy for 17 years…
Thanks again!
Sheri
Hi — don’t include me in the drawing. Just signed on to browse your blog and get inspiration. Working on a lace edging this weekend, something simple to block because the shawl is going to a non-knitter, but I want to define the edge better and complement the pattern of the shawl. My first thought was to look at your shawls because your edges always make me think of new things, like listening to good music. IIRC, there isn’t one or yours that will work quite right, but I know I’ll look at yours and remember something from one of *my* library of stitch dictionaries, and then it will grow in my mind and on my needles. Oh, really love the way you worked the petite version of Pine and Ivy. Neat!
I just had a look at “laugh all you want”, and love the story about the afghan. My mother is a crocheter, and her mother made amazing intricate fine lace as well. My great grandmother on my father’s side was an incredibly accomplished knitter, and crocheter, and I have one of her afghans still, and recently received an old wooden box of hers full of antique needles, including a set of around 40 microscopic crochet hooks. I have been meditatively (obsessively?) de-tangling, working my way through her crochet thread and embroidery floss.
Thanks for the blog, with it’s lovely images, and patterns and thoughtful commentary.
Yes add my name to the drawing. Thanks, Kelli
Would just love a copy of the book. Add me to the long list!!
I would love this book! I enjoyed your post very much, because I too, love books.
I’d love a copy – I don’t have any stitch books 🙂
I’d love a copy! Stitch pattern books are my favorites as well.
ohhh I have been drooling over these books (as well as your patterns) I am currently working on Fernfrost 🙂
I’d love a copy of the new stitchionary to join my shelf. Please include me in the drawing!
Hi Anne,
This is a beautiful and inspiring book–I love the layout of this series, having the crochet volume in my library already. This is alos an opportunity to share my admiration of your wonderful pattrens.
Thank you!
WOW! Nothing like a fabulous contest for those of us that are stuck home this weekend! 🙂
How come when you take pictures of even books, it’s like looking at 3-D! I was just reading about that new book in one of my knitting magazines.
Thanks for the review & the tour of your library. I have added that book on my wish list on Book Depository.
me, me! pick me,please! I have a smaller library, just crying out to be enlarged.
