Vintage Knitspot – Snow on Cedars

Posted on Posted in patterns, projects

Ah, it’s time once again for me to dust off the archives! Anne is super busy with all kinds of fun stuff (she’ll fill you in on Sunday) and I didn’t think you’d mind a little trip with me down memory lane. Plus, there’s a contest involved!

With the metro Detroit area covered in a new blanket of snow, it seemed apropos to highlight this beauty of a mitt pattern.

Snow on Cedars is a mid-length mitt with allover lace motifs of pine trees and snowflakes. Doesn’t this seem like the most delightful thing to knit for a friend? It’s the perfect accessory for chilly offices or knitting in drafty places. Or to wear running errands and not be bothered with taking your gloves on and off.

It’s a pretty quick knit as well because the right and left are interchangeable. I can’t imagine I’m the only one that has knit two left mitts. Even I can’t screw this one up!

Don’t you just want to wrap these mitts around a hot cup of tea as you gaze out the window at the snow covered pines?

Can’t you see these mitts done up in Breakfast Blend Fingering? Won’t they be a little piece of heaven for your hands?

I think this duo and I are going to spend some time together this weekend. Hmmm…coffee, hot cocoa, tea, hot toddy…I definitely have options. Or maybe you guys can help me. What is your fave hot drink? Leave your suggestion in the comments by 10 pm EST on Feb 24 and I’ll pick a winner to receive this mitt pattern!

I’m off to check on Baby Knitspot before I turn in for the night. Today he turned 6 months!

I can’t believe it. It seems like Aug 22 was yesterday.

Happy weekend everyone!

  1. I love a nice pot of English breakfast. What a gorgeous pattern–thanks for bringing it back to our attention!

  2. Um, I was going to say hot mulled wine, which I’ve had a few times, but really, I couldn’t survive without my morning coffee. As far as August 22 being yesterday–given that I just pulled a yogurt out of my fridge with a sell by date of September 17th–why, yes, I believe it was.

  3. Hot tea is always a good thing, no matter what time of day. If it is evening how about a nice glass of wine, always a good thing. Either way, the mitts are beautiful and would be a treat no matter what you were drinking while you knitted on them. Happy 6 month to Baby Knitspot!!!

  4. My favorite hot drink is a good mulled cider! Snow on Cedars is such a beautiful pattern! Baby Knitspot is SO cute!!! Six months is a great age!

  5. Hot tea! I drink at least five cups of hot tea a day, even in summer. I don’t know what i would do if i couldn’t have my hot tea.

  6. I’ve got to say coffee because that’s how I ease into the day. As a “if it’s not too late in the evening (and we have milk)”treat, my husband makes an excellent chai tea.

  7. Coffee is my drink of choice–unflavored, black and bold. Second favorite is tea–black, spicy and strong.

Happy six months to Baby Knitspot! He’s such a cutie!

  8. Well, I was going to say hot chocolate, but really, that’s only for a few months a year and only when it’s cold outside. My true year-round, no matter what the weather, is a cup of hot, lemony English breakfast tea.

  9. Best hot drink to cozy up wiith is reduced sweetener Oregon chai. Ahhh the warm, spiced lightly sweetened drink.

  10. Okay…not a drink, until the ice cream melts. But for the absolute greatest winter treat…..hot cream of wheat with a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. The sweet creamy taste as it melts is to die for! Try it!!

  11. I think the winner is hot tea … A close second is hot chocolate with whipped cream … but the tea wins since I’m 4 months pregnant and changing my tea drinking habits has been my biggest challenge!

Happy 6 months to Baby Knitspot – he just gets cuter and cuter doesn’t he?

  12. Love so many but I would have to say tea is my favorite. Right now we are drinking a combination of ginger, lemon, mint tea combined with a black currant tisane to fight off winter coughs…

  13. Hot black tea with honey and lemon is my choice. Drink it all year round.

Love those mitts. And Baby Knitspot – what can one say but he’s the cutest!

  14. love the mitts…. I drink all different things, but on a cold snowy night. Hot Chocolate, with pepperment.

  15. I love hot chocolate! Sometimes I add a little peppermint to it.

Happy 6 month birthday to little man! Time flies when you have a little one… our son will be 1 in April and it seems like he was just a tiny 6 lb newborn! Bittersweet…

  16. Chai – served above 10,000 feet and lovingly prepared by my favorite Nepalese guide — there is nothing like it watching the sun rise over those mountains!

  17. “Prince Vladimir” tea!

Happy 6 month b-day! Babyhood flies by with every day something new.

  18. A steaming cup of freshly brewed coffee with cream and sugar accompanied by a hot, buttered scone.

Lovely pattern. would be my first pair of mitts.

  19. I don’t like hot drinks much. I have hot chocolate maybe a couple of times a year, but not yet this winter. Give me an iced drink anytime. I guess this counts me out.
Paidrigh (sorry about the spelling) is adorable!

  20. Barry’s Gold Irish Tea with cream and sugar – one lump, please. Add to it some bourbon cream sandwich cookies – there’s no booze, but they are chocolate!

  21. London Fog – my friend Pam (also a knitter) introduced me to it in Albuquerque – Earl Grey tea, vanilla syrup, and steamed/frothed milk. Heaven!!

  22. Hot and strong tea what the British call “Builders tea”. The mittens are beautiful and Baby Knitspot is adorable.

  23. Wassail– mix apple cider, frozen OJ, strong tea, sugar, fresh ginger, cloves, cinnamon sticks– not just for Christmas!

  24. Hot tea for me! For a special treat, I love hot chocolate with a small shot of ButterShots (Butterscotch Schnapps) and whipped cream. Delicious!

  25. I drink a lot of hot tea. These days it is a cardamom spice steeped in a new tea pot from a thoughtful friend. My office is in a north facing, converted garage with no insulation. Some days are colder than others. I can see that wear these snow of cedar and drinking a hot cup of tea just might keep me warm on those really cold days.

  26. Coffee coffee coffee, though sometimes I drink black tea and roses, and the cardamon sounds lovely too.

    Cold beverage: WATER everytime!

  27. I tend toward a giant mug of tea…. but for something different, some Yerba Mate is always yummy 🙂 Love the mitts!

  28. Gotta have that first cup of coffee in the morning, but throughout the rest of the day, a hot cup of tea is my choice.

  29. Hmmm… all of them?? I have a coffee in the morning nearly every day, but I drink tea throughout the day, usually a decaf variety. My current favorite is White Ayurvedic Chai from Teavana!
