it has guilded edges

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

i belong to a spinning guild that meets the third saturday of each month in the schoolhouse at an old mill about an hour south of here. we meet up for the whole day, setting up our wheels around 10 am, breaking for potluck lunch around 12 noon, then spinning some more til about 3 pm. so today, annette, beth, and myself managed to get ourselves up, out, and on the road (at an ungodly hour, i might add) for a day together away from home. i even remembered my camera.

of course, everyone at guild is really intense about their spinning.

i’m pretty sure that joanne is smirking because jo and mike actually appear to be watching those two other guys chew the fat.

dave brought some fiber to sell:

it’s luscious, and and bill spun some it right away.

every month, hollie brings fiber to sell from her motley flock of sheep and goats. we always speculate about what breed hollie’s sheep really are. she calls them “icelandic cross”, but today we discovered their real identity:

they’re irish. (and isn’t everyone just a little bit irish?)

seriously though, hollie had some new stuff: batts of mixed colors and luxury fibers. really nice:

we all broke down and bought some. however beth bought more than anyone else:

sorry rich. annette was able to control herself today and we were all proud of her. and she did some mean spinning:

she does long draw. i got into a little trance watching the flyer through the viewfinder; see the shot where i caught the flyer stopped for just a sec?

not to be outdone, beth shows off her short draw:

and all that before lunch!
i’m almost sure that one dish was not quite that orange in person. hey, did anyone taste that?

after lunch some people spin some more

and some others took a nap

elizabeth, she’s beautiful! how long before she can hold some little, little knitting needles?

  1. They’re Irish! You are too funny! Guild was great. It’s a wonderful time to devote completely to spinning! Enjoyed seeing all the pictures today – have you done any knitting lately? What’s the update with Mason? Any new projects?

    Keep up the informative blog!!!!!

  2. oh Anne, thanks for posting all those lovely pictures. I would give anything to have someone watch the kiddies just so I could go there and spend the day at least once. Sometimes the “daily” grind and babysitting restrictions almost make me wanna not spin so I don’t feel like I am missing out on so much fun and so much fiber!!! Oh, seeing all that makes my heart strings pull…although Steve would probably have a heart attack if HE saw that hahaha. ANyways, I said ALMOST makes me not want to spin haha!! Miss Beth sure did have a good time, look at those bags oh my gravy!!
