update on Moth progress

Posted on Posted in projects, Uncategorized

thank-you to everyone who has inquired about the wing-of-the-moth pattern—it’s coming, i swear! i wrote the whole thing the week after i finished it, and then gave it to three kind people who are test-knitting it. you wouldn’t want me to hand off such a pattern without it being test-knit, would you? and well, it’s a shawl—it is taking a little time. we found a few things in the pattern to change as we went, so i am extremely grateful to kathleen, leah, and debbie for their attentive, detailed efforts.

kathleen took hers to the denver rockies stitch and pitch game last weekend, where she she sat with 200+ knitters and got it all the way to the deep edge banding. woo-woo!

debbie, who is making the scarf version, brought hers to class on wednesday night and is sailing smoothly through the body portion, now that she has gotten past the getting-started stage.

leah, in nashville, is working through the main body area, and is a real help by being a complete pattern advocate for the less experienced knitter (not that she IS less experienced—she just knows how to look out for y’all).

maybe we could even get them to send some pictures . . .

i am completely blown away by everyone’s interest in this piece, and by all the flattering email i have received about it! there is something about a lace shawl . . . and to realize one’s own design is SUCH a great feeling of knitterly accomplishment.
the fact that so many people have written to tell me about their attraction to this shawl, their eagerness to share it with others, and interest in knitting it, just multiplies the complete experience for me!
i think you can tell how much i love knitting—especially making lace shawls, and that now, i also have come to love writing about my knitting adventures and hearing back from our knitting community. i have literally waited all of my knitting years for this to come together, and now it has!

anyway, when it is all ready, we will have a big pattern sell-abration and i’m starting to think another contest may be in order!

  1. Well, I for one will absolutely be making that shawl! I love it and think it’s an incredible design. And this seems like it will be the year of shawls for me!
