pâté en croûte de pomme

Posted on Posted in food and garden, projects, Uncategorized

tonight i am getting out of here. away from my desk and all things work-related. yippee!
we are going to beckie and mark’s for dinner. i love going to their house! and i’m bringing a pie.
mmmm—i haven’t had apple pie in ages. i mean, like 2 years at least.
since i had a lot of work still to do today, i made the dough for the crust last night. then when i woke up, i peeled the apples while the coffee perked (8 apples of mixed varieties, 4 green and 4 red). then i rolled out the dough (martha’s perfect pie crust), added a crumb top and it was in the oven by
9 am or so.

i’m still working but the pie is done anyway—i hate rushing to get things ready right before we leave for a date. it makes the whole start of the evening so UN-relaxing . . .

of course, all week i had visions of adding several feet to my starlight stole and the spades shawl. even on friday i was still under the delusion that i would be able to knit all afternoon on at least ONE of the weekend days.
sigh.
once i’d cleared away the tomatoes i’d been ignoring all week—i dried 6 panfuls and cooked one potful—and got the greens in from the garden, i had delayed my work day long enough. i spent the entire rest of the day hacking through a near-mountain of work (okay, i had a little nap in there, too—it IS the weekend after all!) and by the time i go up from the computer at 1 am, i’d had enough.
i didn’t even feel like working on either shawl. my wrists even hurt a little! so i settled for putting some inches instead on the camoSox

the pooling is a lot better on this one—more camouflag-ey i think. i also got a few rows in on the brownTreXX in the past few days

can you tell?? actually, this one is getting pretty close to needing the toe shaping! finally.
heh. and then i have to make another one . . .

see that little dot of bright yellow? it’s a teeny tiny tomato! isn’t that the cutest thing? it was growing right out of the top of another pear tomato. (okay, i admit it; i love garden oddities)

and on the skirt front, brooklynne of The Mosh Knit has finished her sangria skirt and—OMG!—seems awfully happy with it. she gives it a thumbs-up with a few tweaks. i wish we had a picture . . .

we are SOOO close to having a final pattern! monica finished hers, too, but it came out a little short, so she is re-working the end of it, and then we will be ready. i am trying to decide whether to build more length into the pattern. mine was the perfect length for me after i blocked it—about 22 inches. and i DID stretch it some when i blocked it. the pattern has several places written into it where the knitter is instructed on how to add length.

what are your preferences? would you prefer the pattern to err on the short side, giving YOU control of the length? or just go ahead and build it in? let me know!

alright now, since i still have some files to look at before i go out, i wil leave now with this—let’s just call it eye-candy sunday.

  1. Fall and apple pie is a must combination. I don’t have apple trees, we are so far up in the north (I know some people have been succesful with them with these latitudes though…) but always buy some that have been grown in the southern parts of the country and they are very delicious. I hope you had a nice evening out!

  2. Okay, here’s a skirt comment: I am a tall girl, and I don’t like my skirts too short. Soooo… if you will just give me a “spot” where I can add length, I will do that. I would rather add my own length, than have it built in for me. Muchas Gracias!!!!

  3. kim I’m also tall(6 feet and all leggs) and the pattern wasn’t too short for me I followed anne’s pattern and only had to add one more inche to the skirt and it came out fine… my recomendation tho is when you get to that point where your wondering do i add more or not, take it off the needles and try it on i found that the skirt shortened a lil bit when on me then just when holding it up….

  4. Oh man, the pie. The pie.

(Going to raid the fridge now, reluctantly as there is nothing close to that pie in my fridge right now!) 🙂 Not even regular tomatoes!

  5. Love the pie – made both loganberry and rhubarb pies myself yesterday and am trying not to rush down to the kitchen and cut a slice right now! Was going to make blackberry as well, but instead slung them in the freezer and went for a few rounds with the socks instead.

I’d just give people an option at some point in the pattern to go longer or stay shorter.

  6. That pie looks so ymmmmy! Wouldn’t it be great for breakfast!

About the skirt, I would like an option to add length if I want it. That way I can knit it for myself and maybe as a gift for some of my nieces.

    keep up the good Work!

  7. Apple picking! Here I come!

About the skirt: I am 4 feet 11 inches. I am going to have to take out length if anything at all. 22 inches puts it at too long for my body. So if there are more or less suggestions as to what to do concerning length, depending on a knitter’s particular preference, that would work for me. Can’t wait!

  8. sangria! 🙂
yes, i think err on the side of short, with options in the pattern instructing where & how to lengthen. (kinda like a sewing pattern does often … with those lines that you can either fold up and overlap, or cut and separate).
i so look forward for the release of sangria!

  9. I just wanted you to have my blog address – I hope to have a “Wing o’the Moth Shawl” picture up by tomorrow afternoon (Sept 12). Feel free to link if you want advertising for your pattern. And I’d be interested in test knitting for you if you need another knitter.

  10. I’m still alive Anne, and still knitting on my Moth! And still loving it. I got to see Erin’s and Julia’s in person this weekend and I fell in love with it all over again. I’ll be updating my blog soon I hope.
