liz flies in!

Posted on Posted in projects, Uncategorized

just when you thought you would never hear another word about the moth race, liz crosses the finish line with a beauty on her back. go tell her how clever, smart and wonderful she is.

now, that leaves carole and cheryl wandering around out there still. carol insists that she wants to finish by her birthday on thursday. cheryl insists that SHE wants to finish by HER birthday, which is monday (are you, like me, starting to get a little weirded-out about how in-sync these two are?). i just want to be sending out prizes by next week!

i don’t have too much knitting content today! i HAVE been knitting, mostly on the spades shawl, but i didn’t take any pictures of it today. it’s getting really close. if i can pry myself away from the computer after this, i might even finish it tonight.

yesterday was classes all day and i finished the mermaid sox.these are destined for the state of washington—i’m bartering them for some knitting needles.

i’m glad these are done, and i know you’re tired of seeing the same ol’ sox, week after week. but soon we will have a whole new fresh round of them! the camoSox are nearing completion. i’ll bring those to class tomorrow, and who knows—i might just finish ’em up!

the brownTreXX, of course have become so much a part of my desktop scenery, that i don’t know if i WILL ever finish them. it’s not as if i don’t work on them—i do. almost every day in fact. but truly, i do about 1 or 2 rounds and that’s it. i’m just too busy to knit and work. today i took them to the dentist, and they hid the whole time, except for—again—one row. it was all just too much for them . . .

i am really, REALLY psyched to get going on the man lace project. because i know now, that it is NOT going to be just one. this is a whole territory i must explore. gotta break a few barriers and misconceptions, i think, and toe a line or two. gotta gotta gotta.

for the first one, i decided to go with the tweed handspun. it is a very soft, handsome yarn—fine and manly. and i made it myself. and he likes it (not that he doesn’t like cashmere—trust me, this guy loves luxurious things). the tweed will be a good baseline from which to branch out later, too. after it, i’ll move on to cashmere and then on (and on) to hand-dyed colors and beyond.
you could say i have plans. heh-heh.

  1. Well, you best barter good for those socks, because I think you are getting the short end of THAT deal!!! Your mermaid socks are gorgeous. Can’t wait to see the “man holes” you’re going to make with that homespun….

  2. Ummm yes, I’d certainly exchange lots and lots of needles for those wonderful socks! Can’t wait to see your plans for the man lace…….branching out? I’m intrigued. How many shawls (oops, I mean scarves) is this lucky man going to get?

  3. Hey is that the place you can exchange socks for Celtic Swan needles or something? Think they’d like some genuine Irish socks?

    celtic memory yarns

  4. Oh, I can’t believe you are parting with those glorious socks! Man oh man. Those must be pretty awesome needles you’re getting. 😉

  5. The socks look gorgeous! The stitch pattern looks intriguing; I can’t quite make it out. Is it posted in your blog anywhere, by chance? Or does it have a name?

The wheels are turning on man lace, I see. How exciting! I can’t wait to see the first results.

  6. AS for the MOTH, I have been fascinated with all the results and have followed all the photos with great interest. I bought the pattern and will knit my own noncompetitive (obviously) version in the winter. This has been an inspiration to me, a new lace knitter.

  7. I can’t take it ANY longer…you MUST cast on for the “Man Lace” saga. I agree TOTALLY about the misconsceptions regarding men and ponchos, lace and scarfs. I personally think certain men like certain styles, it just depends. Steve is a definite scarf person and felted clog and mocassin person but oddly enough, he is not a sweater or poncho person. He gets to hot and itchy, thats why he ALWAYS wears short sleeves or dress shirts that he can roll the sleeves up.Now my dad on the other hand IS a poncho type kinda guy so guess what he is gonna get for his birthday in Feb.?! Go Anne, Go Anne, Go Anne….knit that lace, knit that lace!

  8. Great socks! Can’t wait to see your next pair. They’re always terrific.

And, of course, I’m on board with all the rest to eagerly follow your exploration into the uncharted waters of man lace. (Yep, I said “uncharted.” Ever the knitter!)

  9. I’m so glad you picked the handspun!!!! It just looked so wonderful and snuggly in the photo. Plus, the cashmere would have been wasted on something that is not meant to be worn next to the skin anyways. I think the tweediness of the handspun is very manly.
