rivulets of gold

Posted on Posted in designing, food and garden, lace/shawls, projects

the day lilies are so thick and golden this year . . this dense row of them reminds me of something else i have hanging around here

rivolo is off the needles, yay. and oh my, it’s so much more than i imagined it would be. the gold veins running through it seem to have brightened and expanded with a wash and soak

to reveal great depths of honey-colored light throughout the piece. mmm

deb has done it again with this merino/tencel yarn

. . . it’s gorgeous, and i love the colorway in this stitch pattern.

the stitches open up beautifully once the fiber is saturated and more amenable to stretching, and that’s when the true beauty of the stitch pattern is revealed—this is the view from the opposite end

i actually got completely engrossed in writing a pattern this mornig and totally forgot i had it soaking; 5 hours later i went for a drink of water and there is was (and omg, i needed to blog it still)
and now for a full-length shot

we have such good afternoon sun today. someone else has something honey-colored on their mind

the echinacea is also making a splendid display this year, despite the fact that something seems to find it tasty . . .

ahhh, friday . . the weekend is always so full of promise at this point, isn’t it? this evening i am heading to beckie’s for margaritas and some fun for a bit (i can knit later)

but tomorrow i’m heading out to work in the garden. just look at how much that lettuce has grown

and more surprisingly, the strawberries i just planted the other day that had no green leaves at all

but best of all this. i am SO ready for it

  1. Wow Anne, that is really beautiful! The colors are simply gorgeous in that yarn. As always: love the full-lenght shot!

  2. Maybe that’s what I should make with the merino tencel I just spun…any idea how many yards you used? It’s very pretty too!

  3. The scarf is beautiful blocked! Can’t wait to add that pattern to my growing collection . . .

  4. You have GOT to stop showing garden pictures! I was so inspired I got myself one lone patio tomato plant, cause I got not other place to plant a garden:)

  5. I’ve got a garden story for you, Anne! On Tuesday I planted Chinese cabbage seeds and they were UP yesterday, 2 days later!! It is amazing what warm/hot soil will do here in western New York! Do wish that I could knit that fast…smile! Have a great weekend!

  6. Tap…tap…tap…sounds of fingers tapping, anxiously awaiting the pattern for this breathtaking rivulet of gold!!!

  7. Wow, it didn’t look bad on the needles but it’s totaly transformed when blocked—what a stunner! And heh, we’ve got a couple of those red globes in our garden, too—enjoy!

  8. The new scarf is lovely. Oh! And look at your garden grow. Love the shot of the bee on the echinacea flower!

  9. Awesome! And in my favourite “yucky” colours, too!

You’ve also given me a reason to get the merino tencel. I loooove Deb’s yarns, but don’t like tencel for socks.
This will be perfect! (rubs hands together greedily)

  10. Anne, that is gorgeous! You are correct in saying that the gold/honey color just blooms. Your stitch selection worked out perfectly. I would say this one is a SUCCESS!

  11. Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden
    grow. . . ? Fantastic!!!

I love the new scarf and yarn!

  12. Oh, that scarf is splendid!!! You are killing me with all the burnished-golden / autumnal colors around here lately (I still want that Louet Mooi you used for Elm Row, too.)

  13. Oh my, Rivolo is a beauty! I would have never realised from the photo of the yarn in etsy how marvellous it will look when knit. Pure magic, this knitting thing.

I have to admit that I’m really envy of your veggies. I would love to grow tomatoes but they don’t get ready in Finland without a greenhouse and we don’t have one. 🙁 However, we have some lettuce, radish and potatoes growing and I’m so much waiting to get the first radishes in couple of weeks…

  14. I am soooo jealous!! You have a “RED” tomatoe already….shuckin’s….mine are still forming…UGH…and I love your new scarf…It is very fetching. WTG 🙂
