seems like i should have more to show

whew, what a day. i started the day off as usual for this time of year, once again forgetting to change the clocks. good thing i got up “early”—my spinning class arrived an hour before i was expecting them, heh. at least i’d had a cuppa coffee . . .

we had a wonderful class, though—we’re so happy that susan is back; she even treated us to a look at the fiber she purchased last may and just received back from processing. it was worth the wait; her locally-produced CVM fleece was soft as air and pretty.

after my class ended, my friends kris and beckie dropped in for an afternoon of knitting. i put on a second pot of coffee and pulled a treat from the fridge

cookies that my mom sent home with us last sunday. she kept them for us in her freezer from christmas, yum. we munched on those and drank coffee and talked about everything—the best way to spend sunday afternoon, i think.

i worked on some socks and started my scarf project for the shivaya naturals lace club

it took me a while to decide what to do with this color but i think i love this—it’s kind of deco, kind of arts and crafts, and the color is all tiffany-ish.
i’ll be putting some inches on this tonight.

meanwhile, heather wrote to tell me she is having a blog giveaway that you might want to know about—a $25 gift certificate to the knitspot pattern shop could be all yours if you’re lucky. so take a sec to click here and put your name in for the drawing—i’ll wait.

after my friends left today, i got into the kitchen right away before i could be distracted—i’ve been craving a curry for over two weeks now and haven’t taken the time to cook one (i know; it’s shameful). thank goodness the stovetop still works. i chopped, peeled, and diced a pile of veggies into submission and it’s cooking now as we speak

mmm, my mouth is watering.

it seems like there should be so much more to show for my weekend—i actually did quite a bit of knitting (all of it on socks, i think). but for some reason the socks don’t seem to add up, i dunno why.

here’s one thing, maybe: i started the sock with deb’s fearless fibers tight twist merino that i talked about the other day—it’s kind of a follow-up to the hoarfrost neckwarmer. deb even named the colorway hoarfrost.
i think gail is right about naming the sock, though—we should call it rimefrost, which is the type of frost that differs from, and sometimes follows, hoarfrost.

i got this far on it once before and ripped it all back because i wanted the rib to be different (the original was unnecessarily complicated). so that was a few hours of redoing.
but since i love this yarn so much, no matter. all of deb’s yarns are beautiful and well-loved by devotees for their soft hand, subtle palette, and well-wearing quality.
but this tight twist really beats the band, i think. where most tight twist yarns have a lot of bounce, texture, and “fatness” this yarn remains soft to the hand, which sets it apart for me.

you can see that it’s knitting up beautifully, with the great stitch definition that tight twists should have—i just wish you could feel it against your skin, too. sigh.

oh yeah, and i do have another sock in the works that i sorta forgot about . . . the evidence is starting to add up about where i’ve been spending my time

another sock for david. as you might remember, he’s currently renovating the area of the second floor that is my workroom, and last week he literally ran into a brick wall (he had to figure out how to run new electrical lines up the walls forming the perimeter of the house which are made of brick. he solved it now, i think). so i thought i’d knit up that part of the story in a sock, to sorta give him a soft place to look forward to. this pattern is probably most like the half-basket brick pattern seen here at the lower left.

just a little fun with knitting. the yummy sock yarn from miss babs is, indeed, super-yummy, which makes for a project i want to pick up and tote everywhere. an the terracopper colorway is just perfect for this sock.

oh yeah, and i also started on the second holidazed sock the other night when we made a trip to the chiropractor. so i guess i have plenty of projects to show for myself . . . they’re just smaller and easily overlooked (shh, don’t tell them i said that!)

  1. The Tiffany-blue is a really great color for spring. I can imagine it as a lacy wrap or sweater. Your mom is so sweet to have saved the plate of cookies for you – mine would have done the same……….

  2. More to show!!? You have got to be one of the most prolific knitters on the North American continent, if not the entire planet, and everything looks marvelous.

  3. If I had been alive (and very, very wealthy) while Louis was churning out treasures. I would have lapped up enough things to have a cave of wonders. I dream of someday owning a Tiffany lamp — I’ll take the diamonds too but it’s the housewares that make me giddy.

It’s definitely a beautiful blue that both Tiffany Co. and you are using. I don’t see all that many things that color and I don’t know why not as it is a wonderful shade.

  4. Anne, the knitting is beautiful as always, but those cookies! My aunt used to make those cookies at Christmas and send everyone home with a platter. I recognize most of yours!

  5. Anne- Small but mighty. This weekend was lovely- some warmer weather, lots of knitting and good food.

    Life is good, isn’t it?

  6. Hi Anne

Right in the center of the plate of cookies are the ones my Nana used to always make – even the round colored sprinkles are the same! I’m not even really sure of their proper name, since we always call them “nana cookies” 🙂 Now tell me, does your mom use lemon or almond? Do you have a preference?

  7. No snickerdoodles on that plate? My grandma used to make those when she visited. Warm snickerdoodles and cold milk…sigh. Thanks for the heads up on the giveaway–I would have NO trouble spending $25 on your patterns! I love all of the little projects. 🙂

  8. I started changing my clocks after dinner on Saturday. I didn’t really say anything to anyone else, just when I walked by one, I would change it. Then Richard walks in with a puzzled look, saying “I know I left the store at 7:30 how did it suddenly hit 9:00?” I just started laughing….

The funny thing is, I’m always telling him how he seems to lose track of time when he’s doing something, always going at his own pace and in his own time zone….made it even funnier with him wondering how his short trip from the store took him an hour and a half.

  9. Wow. The socks were enough to whet the appetite but my heart stopped at the café cookies. I’ve been whisked back to my quasi-Italian childhood!

  10. I love Hoarfrost and I think I am going to love Rimefrost just as much! We get alot of Rimefrost up here in the mountains. 🙂

  11. The hoarfrost colorway is so pretty and the terracopper colorway is yummy and so fallish looking. Is the pattern you’re making for David’s sock one of your creations? I really like how the pattern is coming along and the yarn color adds to it. Hope to see the pattern in print soon.

  12. Ooh, so many good things! I can’t wait to see more inches on that lace — it looks amazing. And all of the socks are so squishy-looking 🙂 Now I want curry…

  13. Ooh, I really like the new man sock. And whaddaya know, I’ve got some FF that should work great with it… Insert sheepish grin here.
