regatta sock

Posted on Posted in patterns

a fun summery sock to celebrate the sailing season. i tried two colorways, each offering a different effect—one is bright and sunny while the other is deep and mysterious.

shown here, size medium in lorna’s laces shepherd sock, colorway, pleasant prairie (left) and southport blue (right).
This project is offered as a kit with choice of either colorway by signature needle arts at upcoming shows (look for their booth at sock summit) as well as through their website.

this collaborative venture was the brainchild of cathy at signature needle arts who generously provided her “cadillac of knitting needles”, the stiletto DPNs, to knit the socks with.
Beth at lorna’s laces worked with cathy to create two new “signature” (no pun intended) colors for cathy’s kits and came up with a couple of winners.
our friend barbara m was so excited to make this sock for someone special that she offered to test knit it and was so very helpful—thank you barbara!
and of course, many thanks to david for taking time from other work to do these lovely photos.

  1. I love the fanfare of the leg on these. You can really see the little boats dancing on the waves — so cheery! But I guess I used the word “fanfare” because there’s something kind of majestic about it too, like the sock has a crown. I’ve been hearing great things about Shepherd Sock lately; I should really give it a try one of these days!

  2. LOVE the blue version, but I love how even in the darker brown the pattern shows so well.

  3. What a pretty pattern-I especially like how the pattern pops on the blue one. I can’t wait to see the new shawl emerge! Will the wrap be the same stitch pattern as the triangle?
