please, release me

Posted on Posted in designing, lace/shawls, projects

dear dovecote shawl (now that you have a name, i can write you),
please, please, please release your grip on me. i have proven i can be monogamous, have i not? since casting on, i’ve spent every spare minute knitting on you alone. i have not blogged in days, i have not worked on socks (well, not much—they’re hardly longer than they were last week).

you can stop now, with draping yourself seductively over the coffee table, sure in the knowledge that you’ll be the first thing i’ll want to grope ravage touch each day—that really isn’t necessary, not to mention that it verges on coming across as . . . well . . . slutty.

okay, okay—that was a little judgmental. but honestly, could just tone it down a wee bit??
we don’t need to be exposed to all of your assets at once—the soft, buttery spill of your fabric, the deep cleavage of your folds, your voluptuous curves

trust me, i know you’re fabulous.
you are the miss holloway of my knitting universe.
but you don’t need to shove it my face every chance you get; have a heart.

i have other things that need to be done—like finishing the pattern for you. and secret projects. and socks. there are tomatoes and squash and all manner of food practically rotting where they sit because you can’t stand for my attentions to be elsewhere.

so give it a rest, ok? save a little magic for the witching hour or whatever . . .
and don’t get any ideas about toying with david, either—i will cast you off so fast it’ll make your edgings spin.

sincerely,
your knitter

  1. Dovecote. Such a demure name for such a little hussy. Watch that one, she’s going to be trouble….

  2. its beautiful, and yes, she is a slut. good luck with overlooking or ignoring her – she might seek out methods of revenge.

  3. I love it, I absolutely love the letter and the shawl. I can see that you’re dragging us into your seductiveness with you as well and it’s working!! Keep knitting so we can all share in the fun of knitting up one for ourselves.

  4. Mmmm, sounds like it may finally time to break out the cashmere laceweight I’ve had stashed for years. Can’t wait to see the finished project, she sounds absolutely irresistible.

  9. Great post! I know there are lots of us, out there, who have conversations with our knitting! Mine, however, are not always so cordial! The yarn is so warm and yummy. Love it.

  10. that was so sweet! i know what it means to be a slave to a piece of knitting. it is almost idolatery! and once you are released you think – that was wierd that won’t happen to me again. and it does. take care maha

  12. Dovecote – thy name is DELICIOUS. Once again Anne, you have come up with something delectable – big ole surprise!!!! It’s in the stars for this knitter as a friend recently sent me a big box FULL of buttery yellow alpaca …. the color is unnervingly close to yours.
