a couple of nice diversions arrived in the mail this week to offer additional breaks from the gray. first up, a new release from sixth&spring books (actually, i was sent two, but i’ll talk about the other one next week)
knitting a kiss in every stitch by nicky epstein
this is a book chock full of small and simple knit projects that are perfect for gifting to expectant moms, kids, friends, guys, and charities (in fact, the book includes a guide to organizations that are happy to take them).
i dare you to resist that dog bonnet on the coverβhow darn cute is that?
the patterns are basic structures which are then enhanced with the edgings and embellishments ms. epstein is reknowned for. lots of cute hats for kids are included. many are beginner-level projects with an emphasis on finishing work and add-ons (which can require a mature amount of patience). some are bigger and slightly more complex, though i wouldn’t say that any require extensive knitting skill.
the hardcover book’s layout is cheerful and clean, with nice photos showing several views of each project along with clearly-written instructions. the book itself might make a nice gift, in fact.
the publisher has offered to send a book to one lucky winner reading this post. leave a comment telling me you’d like to receive a copy between now and sunday evening, 6pm, and i will draw one winner. the book will be mailed by the publisher.

Wow what a great gift book! I love little knit gifts, so this would be a welcome addition to my knitting library!

ooh, don’t know if I’ll make the deadline–it’s 5 pm here in Montreal but not sure what time it is where you are. Anyway, as much as I would love to win, there are so many ahead of me…I’d just like to know when it will be released so I can track it down and use it for Christmas prezzies!
Cheers, Barbie O. in Montreal
