the new manLace, modeled by the birthday guy (happy birthday, david!). a cozy scarf or a stole in two sizes, just in time to wear for chilly fall outings. can be seen next behind the wheel (instead of a coat), at a cycling event, or at the local lumber yard.

(he is SO getting cake today)

shown here: petite sized stole knit up in wooly wonka fibers celestial, colorway, milky way (also available in dryad moon and meteor shower). this is a wonderfully soft and cozy artisan-blend yarn of alpaca/silk/wool with the texture and liveliness of handspun. the colorway was inspired by the stone walls of new england

hooray for a three “anne” project (because these efforts are never just mine alone):

many many thanks to anne p for designing and providing this scrumptious yarn; it’s is always a special treat to work with her.

and then there is our champion test knitter, anne c (blogless, too bad), who really came through with this one; thanks anne, you’re terrific (and darn it, i can’t find a link to any photos of her from class).

as always, a pattern wouldn’t be a pattern without rachel to tidy it up and make it as perfect as possible; thank you rachel.

  1. Love the man lace.
happy birthday David!! (from yet another of Anne’s friends who hear about you and is glad that you love Anne and are in her life, cause we like her so very much) You get awesome bonus points from folks like us.
May you have a beautiful, blessed year ahead!

  2. Lovely lace!
I’ve been wondering for some time – how to you avoid repetitive strain injuries? You crank out so much knitting!

  3. Anne, you minx you! What a great project and what a great recipient. Happy Birthday David! Ok, so now that’s Twining, Alhambra, Boing, oh yes that kit I just ordered for Autumn Arbor, now this……I better go!

  4. A VERY Happy Birthday to the resident male model.:D

Nothing like a great collaboration – it looks wonderful on your David.

  5. Oh, my!! Happy birthday,David!! He is so handsome! He deserves every single stitch! I love the scarf/stole, love the name, love you both!

  6. My sweet DH replaced our old commode and set the old one at the curb to be picked up. Well, they didn’t pick it up and I finally had to tell the DH that he had to do something with the old one. He suggested flowers but I vetoed that pretty quickly. It was just plain tacky sitting there on the curb. He did go break it up and put it in the bin but there’s no telling how long it would have stayed if I hadn’t bugged him. :-))

  7. Happy Birthday, David! The manlace is great – too bad you didn’t name it for Stonewall Jackson – then I’d have to make it for Dale!

  8. Anne- What kind of cake is he getting?

You know, you couldn’t hire a better model, because if anyone can pull off man lace it’s David.

  9. Happy birthday to David!

Hooray for more man lace as well. I think I need to knit a larger hypotenuse for my husband first though (he loves the scarf size I made for him, but I think he’d really love the larger size too).

  10. Happy Birthday, David!

    (From another “birthday twin”).

Anne, another gorgeous manlace design. I am so looking forward to knitting it.

  11. Happy birthday, David! Enjoy that cake πŸ™‚

(Excellent modelling, btw — the combination of manlace and David is devastating!)

  12. Happy Birthday, David! May you wear the stole in good health, happiness, and fortune the rest of your life!
Mine will be in a luscious purple that has been in the stash waiting for the perfect pattern. Anne, you’ve done it again!

  13. you sneaked this lovely piece in on me the day after my birthday. Beautiful as always.
    Happy Birthday to David.

  14. How can anyone possibly keep up with you?
That is gorgeous, and though a lovely happy birthday gift for David in that gorgeous grey, I’m thinkin’ baby blanket, cause I just found out I’m finally gonna be a greandma. I think this pattern would be perfect in a square, don’t you?
    Felicitations to David.

  15. That just looks so cuddly.
Happy birthday to David, hope he enjoys the cake after the fabulous modeling job!

  16. A very happy birthday to David!
Oh, Jessica’s idea of turning this pattern into a baby blanket is awesome! It has everything I feel a baby blanket needs: lace and texture – perfect!

  17. Wow–I wish I had a man to knit lace for. But, well, I don’t think e.g. my brother would appreciate it much, no matter how manly the color scheme. Although really, you never know.

  18. If you looked up “handsome” in the dictionary, I believe this is the picture you’d see. Very striking!

  19. Great manLace shawl! Happy Birthday to David on his special day! I think that shawl could be unisex don’t you? I wouldn’t mind having that one myself. Might change the color to something prissy, but it is just so so nice!

  20. Happy Birthday, David! We’re all glad that you’re such an accomodating model for Anne!

And the man-lace is great — Another Anne-pattern in my queue…

  21. Hartelijk Gefeliciteerd David !
The stole looks great on you !
I received this as a kit from Wooly Wonka a little while ago, the yarn is just wonderful and I hope to start with it real soon.

  22. Happy Birthday David!

The stole looks great on you, David! I may have to see if I can convince my DH to try it when I finally get mine knit up. ‘Course I might not be willing to share by then…
