To join the beginning edges, remove provisional cast on and place 12 edging sts from each side onto separate DPN needles and the remaining 5 body sts onto a third DPN. Starting at the outer edge and using the cast-on tail, hold edging bands with WS together and graft one set of edging stitches to the other using kichener stitch. Next, pass the tail through the 5 body sts on the third needle and draw them up tightly, securing the end. Weave in all loose ends inconspicuously on WS of fabric.

Check progress during agitation cycle (this cycle should be repeated as many times as needed) and when mittens have shrunk to fit and fabric is softly felted (not too hard or dense), turn washer to rinse cycle.
